Euro 2016

I'm genuinely rooting for Wales, in an inevitably condescending fashion, so it's a shame Slovakia just equalised.

Why was Skrtel surprised that he was booked for that?!

Anyway, well done Wales.

Come on England!

I think a major contributor to this is the EU referendum. I'm just hoping that if there's any good that comes out of this, rational undecided voters will see these close-minded, retrograde neanderthals yelling that they plan to vote Leave and see that a Leave vote plays into their hands.

As someone who analyses the wider political implications of basically anything, I think you're reading too much into it. They're just a bunch of *****.

England have started the game in strong, even dominant, fashion. This can't keep up.

Some quite spectacular scenes of violence in Marseille. Literal chairshots caught on camera.

Elsewhere, the team themselves continue to dominate and fail to score. Harry Kane is on corners.

If you're looking for a defense, you've come to the wrong man.

Mind you, England getting the ball everywhere but the goal is still making me feel sick.

"Justice for the England 11."

Some of the more dodgy commentary you're liable to hear this tournament.

Ducking beauty of a free kick.

"Cruel" say the commentators. Cruel would be if we didn't have a two dozen missed chances, most of which were blasted straight at the keeper in the hope he might actually not be corporeal.

Still, some positives:

1. The other teams in our group will be better organised than a heavily weakened Russian side so that there'll be fewer missed chances in the following games, and we can do away with this false sense of superiority.
2. Harry Kane's corners are so long that the rest of the team can go get a quick orange slice if we win one.
3. We took five strikers and Eric Dier scored.
4. The small spark of hope in my heart has been snuffed out early and I can now resume the dead-eyed, gormless demeanour I normally adopt during tournaments.

Who else is going to have a bad night's sleep because of a football result? Who else thinks they might have invested too much emotionally into something over which they have absolutely zero control?
