Leeches somehow I'm thankful I don't believe I have any specific scar tissue that needs leeched, only scars, but I'm fine with those.

Actually, it's when the cartilage in your ear breaks, thus causing an internal wound that forces a mixture of blood and puss to fill the cavity inside of the skin pocket in your ear. Just like any bloody wound, it coagulates and hardens, similar to cartilage and bone. The only way to prevent it is to drain the ear of the blood mixture before it hardens, but it never stops flowing inside of the ear and draining it is a very painful process.
