Bar Room Rep

I don't post in the bar room often & seeing as how I got almost all of my rep bars from the non spam areas, I don't really care about it either way. I agree with Marquis & jmt225 that the forum clocks & the avatars are a much bigger thing to address than our rep.

For fuck sake, if Rep is such a damn problem just get rid of it, serioiusly what type of sad pathetic people actually give a fuck about rep?!?!?, the whole system is a fucking joke, and the fact that people are even stirring up drama over this shit is just dumb, just do away with rep period, the good posters don't need a full rep bar to stand out, their quality posts should be what makes them stand out

There are so many other issues with the rep system that seem to stand out to me than people getting loads of rep in the bar room, for instance why is Red rep worth so little and green worth so much, what I mean by this is if a persons green rep is worth 50 pts. than their Red should be worth -50 pts., as opposed to how it is now where the red is only worth a fraction of what the green is

Personally I don't really give a crap about rep every couple days I may check for new rep comments whn I get bored but as far how many total points I have, who gives a fuck, they don't do anything, if Rep granted you access to other things in the forum then maybe it ould be differant but it doesn't so it's essetially worthless, they only part of the rep they you could really argue to be worth anything at all is the rep comment, and more than half of the people who give rep don't even leave a comment, also I find the spreading thing to be dumb too, personally I feel that if you are going to have a rep system then you should be able to rep multiple posts by the same poster if you see more than one good post, for example if you see a poster make three good posts in one thread and you feel they deserve a bit of green for all three of them, than you should be able to rep each one of those three posts, as it stands right now you can't do that with out spreading a ton of rep around, and most people just randomly rep people so that they can do just that

So basically if I were the one making the decision here (which I'm not) then I would either just do away with the whole rep system completely or fix the other various issues I see with it...

-dump the rep spreading shit
-make it so you HAVE to post a comment if you want to give a person rep
-make the values of red and green more even, so that red takes away just as much as green would give
-and if Barroom rep is such a issue than make rep worth less in spam zones, like cut the value of the rep in half or something

I realize no one gives a fuck what I think, and I'm not the one making decisions here, but those are the things I would do

I like Murfish's idea. Two rep bars. Start everyone at 10 each, and only let mods, admins, and anyone with 6+ months on the forum rep.

I think it's kind of funny that I've been here for barely over 4 months, and have full rep. I'm in the top 20 or so, and probably shouldn't be. I laugh at my post count daily, also. It's bloated by about 1,600 because of OCW.

I couldn't care either way, i wouldn't care if my rep was set to minus a billion, it's opinions that matter to me more.

That's perfectly fair. All the huge reps on here were done mostly by me anyway.

Out of the top 10 I'd say TM & Klunder are the only two I'd didn't manually mess with.
And Slyfox.

Ah, that works. I still dont think its fair though.

How can people who have been here for literally YEARS have all theirs taken away, when the system only became extremely bastardized within the last few months?? Thats fair??
I guess I'm missing the point.

Why are we that concerned with rep, and who has "x" number of rep bars? Does it really matter?

Yeah, I get the argument that rep "should mean something"...but c'mon. This is an Internet forum. Nothing REALLY matters. So some people are friends and rep each other. How is that any different from what you, me, Irish, or whomever does? Do you rep people you don't respect? Just because some people like each other and respect their posts, that doesn't mean that it makes their admiration for those posts any different than the posts you rep with admiration.

I fail to see the problem here. The Bar Room, whether people like it or not, is a big reason people continue to post here, and it's one of the highest activity forums here. Why should it be worth less rep? Because people enjoy it? Because it doesn't talk wrestling? Then we should get rid of rep in ALL sections of the board that don't include wrestling. Should it be worth less rep because post count isn't on? Then let's take it away from the Live Discussion and Board Room as well.

In the end, rep points mean nothing. REP means something, in that it determines what someone thinks of your post. Rep points, though, and little rep bars, means basically nothing.

If we ARE looking for a solution, then here's mine. No more rep points. Get rid of rep bars, and rep points. Instead, people can rep green or red. You don't have to give a reason (because all people will do is say "sdfa" or something), but the satisfaction will come from knowing what people think, not some ridiculous number of points that means basically zero.

Like I said, I see no problem with the way things are done now, and if rep is so important to people they have to make friends to rep each other, then whatever. I'll just point and laugh at them.

justin's might be the best post yet in here, and pretty much my idea on it. However, taht stuff is beyond the realm of Irish or my control.

I would rather have the ability to see all rep that I've received and given than have points and bars. True story.

Considering nobody cares about rep, it's interesting that everyone appears to have an opinion on it they feel strongly enough to mention here. I do care about rep. Not in the way that I seek it delibriately, but people are more inclined to read your posts if you are highly repped. My posting style, content and quality has not changed since I've got here, but I get a hell of a lot more attention as a poster in terms of people responding to what I say, or bringing my name up elsewhere now than I did when I didn't have any bars.

Getting rid of the bars means that you will no longer have this problem, but it also means that all of the people who have red bars now, will no longer have the seal of "don't read this, I'm ******ed".

Slyfox's idea is quite a good one, but I don't really understand the point. If people can be "repped", it's pretty much the same thing as we have now, except other people won't know what you have, and I think the people who do actively persue rep are probably doing it for self esteem rather than making themselves look the big man in the forums, so they will still continue to seek it the way they do.

Out of curiosity, who are the rep gangs? To them I say, what's the point?

pretty much the most awesome thing Tasty has ever posted.

I should edit it to show the truth.

"since everyone is afraid to step and admit they care about rep on a wrestling forum...."

Rep is a nice little bonus but it's not like it determines status. If we repped a bot up to full bars, is it a good poster?

Not at all, but I'd be more inclined to read its posts than I would to read someones with 4 red bars, for example. And I'm sure most others would too.

The only problem is that now everyone is super repped. I don't want to degrade certain posters, but to put them on the same level as Slyfox is ******ed. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, resetting the levels would mean the good established posters still had 11 bars, people like me who aren't too bad and who are less well established would have about 4 or 5 and then people who were shit, or barely average would have a grey one.

Even if you completely reset them, it's not like people who know this place will say "OMG!!! Sam is the same as the new guy! They must be the same kind of posters."
