2012 Movie Tournament Thread!!

Not a single damn Monty Python mention yet?

I'll say Holy Grail since it is likely most people have seen it.

Two more I didn't see listed.......

Boyz n' the Hood
Predator(because fuck you I like that movie)

A lot of noteworthy picks for sure. The top of my list is Heat with DeNiro and Pacino. Also:

Casino
The Warriors (had to mention it)
A Soldier's Story
Revenge of the Nerds
...And Justice For All
Ordinary People
Escape from New York
Tango & Cash
Lock Up
All That Jazz
Being There
Escape from Alcatraz
The Rock
Grand Canyon
Road House
The Last Boy Scout
Last Man Standing
Swingers
Made
In Too Deep
Tombstone
Posse

There are several others but these leap out at me for the moment.

I Am Legend is my third pick.

3.) Forrest Gump
-Again, one of those movies we have seen a million times, which begins to filter how good it was to us when we originally saw it. This movie is an epic tale that has all the elements of a classic.

As for animated movies here is some I loved growing up. And, still wouldn't mind to watch.

Shrek 1 or 2
Finding Nemo
Fantasia
The Lion King (any)
The Little Mermain or even Beauty and the Beast
Up (a newer one, still great)
The Iron Giant
Bugs Life
Oliver and Company

Not at all, it only adds minor things that Walter Hill couldn't include originally due to time constraints.

I'd love to see what was omitted from the theatrical version. The copy I have just has the trailer.

Based on your suggestions, here's the first lot of movies. There will be more, for certain, but at this point I'm going to stop revealing them so there's some surprise for the tournament.

Now that it seems nearly everyone has gotten their favorites out of the way, it's time for the broader, "HOW THE FUCK ISN'T THIS ON YOUR LIST ALREADY!?" films. I've got about 30 more that I haven't listed, I just want to make sure all our bases are covered.

Keep up the +1's, it's extremely helpful. And if you have another suggestion that isn't super ridiculously popular, also feel free to keep listing those as well. Thanks guys, and I can't wait to get started!

I think Million Dollar Baby has been mentioned more than once (13 & 53) and Synecdoche New York (4 & 53) definitely has because I +1'd it. In Bruges (53 & 77) too

That'd leave 4 more. My choices would be

Amelie
Dawn of the Dead (original)
Magnolia
Let The Right One In

I got a +1 for Speed Racer and Loveless called it shit. Tell me that's not worth discussing in a tournament setting.

I was too harsh on Speed Racer due to it being mentioned alongside Let Me In. Let Me In's shitness drifted over onto Speed Racer and made it worse. It's ok but it doesn't belong on this list when things like Pans Labyrinth and much better aren't included.

Quality is subjective though, isn't it?

I want to say no because it's offensive, for example, to judge something like Synecdoche as equal to Justin Biebers Never Say Never Again.
I think it's possible to be objective about films in some aspects. For example, I have a real dislike of Pedro Almodovar but technically and scriptwise he's obviously talented. Things like technical ability and not leaving plot holes can be viewed objectively.
