2012 Movie Tournament Thread!!

Two David Fincher films in the top ten? Seems gratuitous.

  1. Synechdoche, New York
  2. Speed Racer
  3. Let Me In

I'm giving a +1 to Synecdoche: New York. Awsome, mindbending film. The other 2 are shit though and I wrote a concise essay on why Let Me In was fucking awful.

I'd also happily +1

The Seventh Seal
Donnie Darko
Million Dollar Baby
12 Angry Men
Grace of the Fireflies
Spirited Away
Stand By Me
500 Days of Summer
---------------------

I've pretty much lost track of what's been nominated & +1'd but you can take my top 3 of whatever hasn't been accepted yet, starting at the top.

American Beauty
Dawn of the Dead (original, not the bullshit remake)
Magnolia
Amélie

I wrote a concise essay on why Let Me In was fucking awful.

I cross-searched "Let Me In" with your name and didn't come across it. I did find a thread on shaved vagina, mind you, so it's not all a loss.

No battles

The best ones of the series in the mines of Moria, then in the forest. Ones with actual impact too, instead of constant sweeping shots of massive CG armies.

No Gollum

And New Hope doesn't have Yoda - that's not the reason it's worse than Empire Strikes Back.

No Christopher Lee

Guh?

Lots of walking

Not as exciting as bag CG trees slowly debating one another, I'll give you that.

I have many interests, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Meh. There's nothing special or memorable about them in comparison to what followed.

Touché. I must have missed that when I fell asleep watching Fellowship.

The Ents are awesome, you leave 'em alone.

Fuck the ents! I'd have much more love for Two Towers if it weren't for the ents. It's the Alberto Del Rio effect; if they're supposed to be boring and they are boring, what exactly have you accomplished?

They weren't boring, they were funny. Seeing them slowly getting to the point of realising they'd been betrayed and then watching them decimate Isengard was one of the most entertaining moments in all 3 films and a rare feel-good moment.

The fight with the cave troll, Gandalf vs the Balrog. And don't get me started on the fight at the end

Boromir fucking rules!!!!!

Two badass old men fighting?!? one of the most memorable scenes

They're not really. Aside from them destroying Isengard they don't do much

Who gave JGlass the right answers? Come on - come forward now and make it easier on yourself.

The sooner you realize my taste is superior to yours, the sooner we'll be able to achieve world peace.

And Fellowship is miles better than Two Towers. Fellowship was a much more complete film than Towers, and the battles were better too. Mynas Tyrath was cool, but it was so broken up.

All right guys, save your LOTR arguments for the tournament because...

I think we might have to do some preliminary rounds in the GSD, because I doubt they'll be enough interest to do a full 128 film tournament.

Keep them coming er'body.

Perfect blue. Played a part in inspiring Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan.

It'd be easy enough to get 128 films, I could do that just on my own but 64 is probably the right number. I'd go straight knockout, any kind of "Group Vote" in the preliminaries is always a populist disaster.

And seriously, where are Amelie & Blade Runner?

Cool your jets. More are coming. And er'body needs to stop tagging me every time they post. Inboxes are too damn small for that shit.

There's a girl at work called Bernie and we had this ice breaker where we had to say a movie title that would describe our last relationship. She got quite offended when I said weekend at Bernies 2

Clue

Legend

Four Rooms

Back to the Future

Fear and Loathing

Kill Bill

.....(how are none of these listed yet?)
