WWE Wrestlemania XXVII Live Discussion

It did not suck X but the pacing was borderline unforgivably horrible at points. Not all of those points were for selling the story. Possibly the most confusing thing to me was why they started working that way so early in the match.

Taker wasn't legit hurt, he was selling. If anything, Trips' left arm was legit hurt from that backdrop off the table a couple minutes into the match.

People keep saying that he was selling, but I don't believe it. He is the Undertaker. He had just kicked out of 3 pedigree's, a hard chair shot to the head and a tombstone, and he just, just had a super natural/ super human moment rising from the dead and locking in Hell's Gate for the win. I don't believe Taker would sell that much during Mania. WWE wants that shot of Taker doing his kneeling pose while his record shines in the background. I think it is very well possible that HHH hurt his left wrist, but I think Taker was legit hurt as well. Taker does not get taken out on a stretcher. He just doesn't.

I'm pretty sure they're trying to tell a story here, though. Trips might not have won the match, but he was the one who walked out of Wrestlemania by his own will. This might well be Taker's last match, and HHH still has guys to put over. At least that's how I see it. Do you think they would've shown, on national, live PPV, a legitimately injured wrestler (much less one of Taker's caliber) for as long as they did? If he was legit injured, I'm convinced they would've cut away to a hype video for Snooki's big WM match (you know they have one, they already showed it on Raw), especially given the time constraints that were made so painfully obvious when the US Title match was cut.

I just want to say now so I can make it vocally clear, those of you who thought the Triple H-Undertaker match sucked, I am sorry, but I am not entirely sure you understand what defines a good wrestling match. Yeah there was a lot of resting. So what? There was tons of resting in the HBK/Taker matches and people were glad to go ****+ without a second thought because of the overall story. That match worked that crowd perfectly. Great stuff.

What do you think defines a good wrestling match? A pile of near falls, and a contest to hit as many finishers as possible doesn't make a good match. I don't think the match sucked, it was probably the most entertaining, but what would their plan be for next year: "OK, last year we had four tombstones, a chokeslam, three pedigrees, and a last ride. This year, we have to have five tombstones, maybe two chokeslams, three pedigrees, and a last ride!" A kick-out spotfest isn't what constitutes a good match. In fact, the only reason that even works with Taker is that you're so accustomed to finishers finishing the match that you think he might lose his streak.

The best part of the match was when HHH looked to be putting away Taker for good, that was good and the crowd was eating it up, but then they ruined it with the ending. The match was 3/5, and I would give it that because what it could have been.

Well what about fantastic storytelling?

I love the collective bitch fest and whining going on with the IWC. What a shock, people are upset because the smark favorites didn't get their time. Boo fucking hoo.

I'm more dissapointed that I wasn't drawn into, or entertained by this show. I watched the first half and went to bed with no desire to see the second. The show just fell flat with me.

The HHH Taker match was intense. People have to stop trying to maximize faults over the incredibeleness of that match. Did it have crappy moments? Yeas but it was and incredibly well told story for which the crowd was going apeshit over.

So last night's Wrestlemania looked like a 3 hours special edition of Monday Night RAW. First you had the other brands title be defended in the opening match, nothing new here, face goes on top, heel doesn't look like a real threat.

Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio made the night for me, was the only match that looked as a Wrestlemania caliber match, that one and of course Undertaker/Triple H, but Undertaker vs. Triple H would have been a great match even if they stood there hitting each other with chairs from start to finish, that's how great they are.

Snookimania was just great. I'm not from the United States so I don't watch Jersey Shore, I don't give a fuck about Jersey Shore, I don't know if they are characters or if they are portraying theyre real-life personas, I honestly don't care. So you have two talented guys in Ziggler and Morrison that didn't even tagged in! Oh, WWE, sometimes I think TNA would make a better work than you. You don't have two of the biggest young superstars in a match and don't even freaking use them. That's WCW booking, not WWE's.

Oh, and talk about the 8 Man Tag Team Match, fuck you WWE. Fuck you. Why I would I care about Nexus, Corre, The New Nexus, The New Corre, whatever? Randy Orton took the whole New Nexus out easily, and now The Corre, that is supposed to be the biggest stable in the whole WWE jobs to a random 4 man tag team, fuck you WWE.

The Miz vs. John Cena was not great, not because of the wrestlers, but because of that fucking crowd who thinks it's funny to boo the faces and cheer the heels, "Yeah, look at me!!! I'm cheering the heel! I know stuff!", fuck you too. In Pro Wrestling, oh sorry, Entertainment, you don't cheer the heels and boo the faces, if you don't like them, give them NO REACTION! That's what works, you know? If you boo them, that means you care!

Lawler and Cole was just what I expected. For the whole fucking feud I would write in this forums that the match would be just shit. It was, it really was. Fuck you WWE for wasting my time in this whole storyline and this whole push of Jerry Lawler, fuck you. I don't care about Lawler, Lawler's matches, Lawler's cape, whatever, I don't care. I don't wanna watch a 50 years old man fight a 30 years old commentator!

This was bad. And fuck you too Rock. You had to close the show and make Miz and Cena look weak just because you are back for 3 monts, when actually you are there for 3 or 4 shows. Yeah, great. A retired wrestler going over the two biggest stars in all of "Entertainment". Fuck you, or fuck the man that write this shit.

Overall: 4/10. Cody and Trips matches saved this shit.

The problem for Wrestlemania is that it is coming to rely too much on its big entrances and excellent video packages rather than on actual match time. Somehow four hours is now not long enough for nine matches and even when they removed one and trimmed another down to 90 secs, the same problems remained.

Maybe WWE should limit the number of matches on the card to less than eight and work more on their time management (Lawler/Cole went properly 10 mins too long and the Corre match should probably have been dropped) if they want to continue with way over the top spectacle of Wrestlemania.

I think I'm gonna need to re-watch the PPV before giving it a proper verdict. But first impressions, nearly 12 hours removed, is that the show was distinctly average. HHH/Taker was match of the night though (3.5 out of 5 perhaps).

It was a pretty damn decent show. Solid B- probably. Most of my complaints are pretty nit-picky.

Edge vs Alberto Del Rio - My first complaint is that this shouldn't have been the first match of the night. I'm not going to even get into the obvious reason that this is the World Heavyweight Championship match, but Alberto Del Rio won the Royal Rumble, one of the last-standing traditions next to Wrestlemania. I don't mind that he lost (even though he probably should have won), but he shouldn't have lost to OPEN Wrestlemania. I don't think this helped Del Rio as much as the WWE is expecting it'll help him. To see him crying over a vehicle he boasts on having the money to afford many times over is also pretty silly. However, the match itself was very good, a great way to kick off Wrestlemania with an explosion. 8.5/10

Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio - This wasn't a fantastic match. It was pretty good, no real complaints about the content. 6.5/10

The Corre vs The Big Show, Kane, Santino, & Kofi - Way too short, but I guess that was expected seeing as there was absolutely zero effort into building up a WM feud between all these guys. The match probably wouldn't have been good anyway, had it been given decent time. Santino, and his amazing ability to be hugely over while being given nothing to work with, saved the show. 4.5/10

Randy Orton vs CM Punk - I enjoyed this match a great deal, though I didn't like how they used a spot from Raw (falling after an attempted punt) as one of the match's climaxes. The false-RKO stressed me out, and the flying RKO made me piss my pants. This match was entertainment. 8/10

Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole - This match should have started with Stone Cold stunning Jack Swagger, and spent 15 minutes having Jerry Lawler beating the absolute shit out of Cole in various ways. But no. It was incredibly slowly paced, and flat out boring. The only entertaining part of the match was when it ended, and Stone Cold stunned everybody. I don't know how the WWE managed to fuck up this match, seeing that it was one of the most hyped feuds of Wrestlemania this year. Any random asshole on the street could have written a better match after seeing a video package of this feud. 1.5/10

Triple H vs Undertaker - This was an extremely entertaining match, regardless of the fact that it was an incredibly slow paced finisher-fest. Lots of awesome spots, not much to talk about though. I was thoroughly entertained. 8/10

Team Snooki vs Ziggler & Laycool - I can't give an unbiased opinion on this match. Snooki was the only good thing about this match. I probably would have hated it if I didn't watch Jersey Shore. 4/10

John Cena vs The Miz - The intros for this match were awesome, but that's pretty much the only thing "awesome" about this match. The match itself went on to mediocrity, especially after the double count-out that killed the entire mood for me. The ending was weak. As huge as Rock is, something in the back of my mind tells me that he shouldn't have laid out the two people in the main event title scene at the main event of Wrestlemania when you know his ass is probably going to be around for another couple months at best, if he even shows up to the arenas at all. Something was off about the entire match, and even more off about the ending. 5.5/10 (at best).

:lmao: at everyone bitching about the quality of the Cole/King match, that match went about as suspect for me, anyone who thought they were gonna get a 5 star, or even a 3 star classic out that is just being stupid, it's a match between 2 announcers for fuck sake, of who's in his 60's and the other who has never wrestled in a match in his life. For Lawler to completely squash Cole would've made Swaggers involvement completely pointless, and though I thought the GM shit at the end was kinda dumb it was needed to they could justify Josh Matthews getting his ass kicked, and we get JR & King back on commentary for the rest of the night, which I loved

I will be amazed if there is ever another wrestling event where we don't get the entire IWC pissing and moaning when it's over, the IWC thinks everything with wrestling sucks, and everything in wrestling will continue to suck, if you had gotten exactly what you wanted from this PPV you would all still be in here bitching up a storm because "Wrestlemania was too predictable" you all just need to learn how to shut the fuck up and enjoy wrestling again

I think you should all watch it a second time. I am and I'm enjoying it more. I'm up the main event. Let's see how this goes, shall we? My prediction; Miz's hype video remains the highlight of the entire thing. Mind you, I do also like The Miz's entrance.

I think the match fell apart when Cena started selling like he'd had a stroke. Not only was it unbelievable - considering the relatively minuscule amount of damage he had taken - but it left the match to rely on The Miz's offense. They start wrestling in slow motion.

I'd be lying if I weren't thinking about how cool Miz's massive jacket was for the first five minutes of the match though.

I'm with you, Sam. Cena's overselling is officially starting to take me out of his matches. If he were to get mauled by a bear until a train ran him and the bear over, I doubt I'd notice an appropriate difference in his selling.
