An article in Variety is reporting that WrestleMania XXVII drew 1 million ppv buys. The article states that while the final numbers aren't available just yet, word is that WM's North American & international buys increased by 30% & 15% rrespectively compared to WrestleMania XXVI.

Aside from the return of some big stars to be part of the event, the article gives credit to the marketing the WWE did to hype the event. For instance, they had lots of top stars appearing on a variety of television programs to plug the event.

So yeah, Vince has got to be happy because he got the magic number he was looking for. Some liked WM this year and some hated it, though that's usually pretty normal. But Vince wanted to do whatever he could to get the ppv buys of the biggest wrestling event of the year back into seven figures.

I personally liked more this wrestlemania than the last 2 and I'm happy for Vince he really went all out this year and this is the first WM since WM 23 I think that he's gotten the 1M buys.... I mean we say rock, stone cold, HHH vs Taker,JR finally came back (sort off), they built long term for Michael Cole.... This was a good mania....not the best not the worst but there was more good than bad and the best in some years....let's hope they continue the trend into next year...I'm mean the rock vs john cena....that's bound to get 1M buys as well right?

imo the rock was the reason mania sold well this year and next years will b no different 1 thing the rock does is put asses on seats

The Rock is definitely the biggest element to Wrestlemania doing as well as it did. However, you really can't underestimate how much work The Miz has done publicity wise. His previous work in reality tv did bring a lot of eyes in.

Hate to say it, but I know some people who decided to order over Snookie, I'm kind of ashamed of it.

personally this years wasn't a total loss, it was no worse then the last 2 as far as only a few good matches and the rest was just filler.

The one thing that was worse though was every match with exception of the Taker/HHH and Orton/Punk match was rushed and no thought went into the matches it seemed.

I can't deny The Rock probably was the biggest draw for the average fan and people who wouldn't have ordered it otherwise, but Mania had 3 big elements and shoulda had atleast 3 HUGE matches as usual formula, this year we got Austin and The Rock back on the same card since Austin's farewell match, Taker vs Triple H (would politics beat logic), and The Rock possibly getting involved in Cena vs Miz

On a personal level The Rock being there didn't sell it for me, initially when he came back and did his thing it was great,, but as the weeks went on he got annoying more then captivating, definately not The Rock from the attitude era that was the most electrifying man sports entertainment. and what really killed it was that Cena was right I lost interest in the card once all the matches were signed.
and only got a bit hyped because after all it's WrestleMania and it was a public holiday here so i could watch it live

Rock is a hipocrit, bitching and moaning that Cena said something about him not being interested in the "fans" which is true on one level. Meanwhile the Cena we hate has been there the whole time. Made Rock seem like a whining bitch, not the other way around. So i guess they succeeded in that, putting Cena over big time.

And at Mania itself he did even less. I fail to see what was the point of even utilizing the way they did, it was pointless and offered next to nothing to the increase the show. a rant at the start that went Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long, a few backstage segments that were just "ok" and involvement in the Main Event that was mind boggling.

If he truly wanted to screw Cena why
A) wouldn't he have booked himself as the ref or outside inforcer in the first place since he seemed to have the power to change a match
B) Restarting the match only to immediately screw Cena and not Miz aswel, um they both talked bug time Smack about you?
C) Why not just book himself in the restart and take the title which woulda screwed both of them

Mind Boggling....

and Austin's involvement was stale as usual. Worst match on the card utilizing one of the biggest names in WWE history.

All the Attitude haters and naysayers will have to eat crow, because this WM featured the biggest Attitude stars with Rock, Austin and Trish, aswell as a feud between HHH and Taker (with HBK thrown in for build up).

Very few people bought the PPV to see Miz vs Cena in a absolute stinker of a main event, nor did they buy it to see Morisson and Ziggler have a 2 min match in which they barely appeared in.

What i am wondering is, can Vince McMahon actually see why he got those buys at all? Does he think about how in 2-3 years again, he would prefer NOT to call on Austin, Rocky etc again?

Had this show done 1 million buys without any "old timers" then he should be estatic, bu at this point it paints a very bad picture on the company that is running fumes creative wise and talent wise.

Last year Wrestle Mania had a lot of good matches, this year had a lot of OKAY matches, focused too much on The Rock who was only blithering in the first part, not even But I watched for free on the computer, after canceling the order thirty minutes before it started. This was when I found out they excluded my personal favorite in WWE, Daniel Bryan, and another awesome wrestler, Sheamus.

Two of the matches were worth watching, Edge vs ADR and Undertaker vs HHH, everything else was bullshit almost. We did not get to see Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, and Dolph Ziggler to perform, that was just plain ******ed. And we saw only one move by Kofi Kingston and John Morrison in their matches.

Wrestle Mania should now be called Entertainia if this is what it will be for the next years, and judging by the P P V buy rates, I expect it to have shit matches.

Someone just hates the attitude era a bit.... bet if rocky was picking on the great khali youd be goin bananas for him. Lol. If the rock did any of your abcs youd be all caps screaming about how hes greedy and stealing limelight and stuff. Theres no way he woulda made you happy.....oh i mean theres no way the WRITERS AND MCMAHON could have made you happy.

The Rock sold mania for me. Snooki sold mania. The non wrestling group did it. Its not the WORLD WRASSLIN ENTERTAINMENT anymore. Its just wwe. You're really REALLLLLYYYY gonna NOT want to go anywhere near mania 28. In fact do yourself a favor and avoid the usa network from january to april so you don't waste your time.

Do i agree with all of it? No. But wrestling has changed 12 times since i was 4. Either stop watching lke my friends did or stick with it and accept the change.

Yeah, but the reason Cena vs. Miz was an absolute stinker is because it was never really about them. Or at least their rivalry. It was about the Rock and how Cena and the Miz responded to him, and the match was scripted as such. It was fifteen minutes of Cena and the Miz biding time until the Rock could come in and wrap up the show. I guarantee you that if the Rock wasn't involved, that match would have been very different (though the IWC would probably be bitching about Cena winning the title again instead of bitching about a double count-out.)

I liked Wrestlemania this year despite what people said. I'm glad that it drew well and showed how great of a businessman Vince really is. Congrats to all in WWE and everyone that was involved to make it a success.

Good stuff for the WWE although I am not sure this really deserved to crack a million buys but that is a deferent story. Even so you have to assume a lot of this goes down to The Rock returning to Mania and Snooki being in a match and maybe a little bit with SCSA refereeing. Couple that with two world title matches and HHH/Taker and the excellent job the WWE did hyping this event and I suppose this shouldn't really be all that surprising.

I think the true sign that WM was a failure is the ratings post-mania. You hit the 1 million buys, yet fail to draw higher than a 3.1? That shows you how many people are willing to enjoy wrestling, yet don't because of the state it's in.

Well I didn't think they could do it but they did. WWE managed to get the big number they were wanting and Vince should be happy. This is a big deal, especially given the skepticism around WWE stock and the PPV buys recently. WWE still has it and they showed it right here. Mania felt like a major show on paper and it more than worked. With the build to next year coming this early, 1 million could easily be surpassed again next year. Great news for WWE who obviously still have it.

You can't really say "the Rock is the reason". Yes, in the sense that he was on the show and that sold the tickets he did. However, it wasn't some sort of special ability he has. It was because he hadn't done shit in wrestling for 7 years. If Michael Jordan plays one more game, and says it's only one more game, and it's on the Bulls vs the Heat, it's going to draw like a motherfucker. Not because jordan is the best in the game anymore, but because it's special.

"The reason it drew so well was because an iconic, memorable character that most people never thought they'd see again was on the show" is the correct answer. Had Rock been wrestling for the past 7 years I don't think it would have drawn as much.

If The Rock catapulted WM27 into the 1m PPV buy club I wonder what WM28 will get in his home town fighting Cena? The years build for this will only add to the anticipation.

I think at next years WM they need to do a 5-10 minute video package with all the interactions. A sit down interview like the one before WM17 would be nice too. Maybe shown on Raw the week before.

I liked Wrestlemania 26 better than WM27 but WM 27 was very appealing, it made me want to buy it. I wanted to see Undertaker and Triple H back in action, sheamus vs daniel bryan(never got to see it:banghead:), stone cold, the rock, and michael coles get his butt handed to him by jerry lawler. Jim Ross commentating for the big matches was great too.
