What's bewildering to me is that the media here are still being dicks to Costa Rica and only paying attention to their ranking rather than performances.

And yet the opposite is just as if not more likely.

I think the reaction to England has been pretty ridiculous too. Were they poor against Uruguay? Yes, but it still took the form player in the world right now getting a bit of luck to beat them.

There were mistakes - mostly in the midfield lying so deep - but they are not chronic problems that need a new manager and read out of the squad. That said, I would still be dropping Gerrard, Rooney, Baines and Jagielka for the Costa Rica game and give the youngsters a full game.

I'd disagree. Costa Rica have put on great performances against the solid teams of Italy and Uruguay, both who I would argue are superior to the current England squad. I do agree that England should play a younger squad against them though; they have nothing to lose.

That would be allowing yourself to be blinded by CR's previous results, where both Italy and Uruguay were awful. Regardless of their last two defeats, England are a better side than Costa Rica and the likelihood that they will win is greater than them losing, which is reflected in the odds.

And this won't have anything to do with the fact that they can rest players before the next round? England may have better players but Costa Rica's teamplay has been so much better, which is why they are advancing.
