What If: The Matt Hardy Story

Khalifa

Where it at doe?
I am going to a pile of these threads in the upcoming year. I'm not sure how long it will be between each of these threads but I know that I will definately do more. This one is about Matt Hardy. We all know Matt Hardy is the less popular of the Hardy's but definately the better wrestler. Matt Hardy was recently released from the WWE.

Lets go back in time shall we, when Matt Hardy and MVP were having an awesome fued. Matts in ring abilities were getting better at this point and the fans were really loving him. But then Matt got injured and he was never the same. Even with his feud with Jeff that could of been every big. He then started putting on weight and he is no more.

Do you think he could of made it further in the WWE if he didn't get injured? Do you think things would be different? Do you think he would even still be in the WWE?

Yes, I do beleive he would've made it in the wwe if he wouldnt have gotten injured and gained a little chub...for two reasons.

#1 He had the in ring ability

#2 He was over at the time, and the fans loved him even i did.

His life seriously spiraled out of control. As you said he was the better overall wrestler but his brother had the better spots and was better on the mic...well at least had/has a better gimmick so he was always more over.

I don't think Matt would have ever been the main event status his brother does for those things I mentioned but he would have been a solid upper midcarder. He would probably be in the role Kofi is on now. He gets some main events but still helps younger and lesser talent get over.

That said he wanted to be released from the WWE so he probably wouldn't be there even if he kept his life straight. I think if he wasn't going on Twitter and Youtube every few days griping and complaining and if he had a better work ethic he could get another shot somewhere and they could set it up like the road to recovery story TNA is using with his brother

really you think jeff was better on the mic. Really. koslov would put jeff to shame on the mic. But about matt hardy. He had just a number of injurys building up. If he didn't have those injurys i think he would be a main eventer. Just look at how over he was. He was more over than the majority of the wrestlers today. I dare someone to call bullshit and we will look at his 2005 to 2009 run. everytime he was in that ring he was over. And he gets alot of grief for that last year but his whole abdumonal wall had caved in. His apendix burst, just alot of stuff happend to him. He shouldn't be jugde his whole carrer by one year.

I don't know if he still would've ever gotten to the main spot either, but he certainly would've remained around the US or IC titles and Tag Titles

Eventually he still would've gotten the shits and left.

I agree with others on Jeff's ability being highly overrated, Matt was the star of the team but Jeff got all the glory cause he was a freak which appealed to emo kids obviously.

When Matt and Jeff split as a tag team, Matt Hardy was clearly the better overall wrestler. Back in the day, Matt loved what he did, he had passion and he did everything he could to make himself better and as a result, make the show better. Matt Hardy had great business sense and it showed in his heel character and his ring work. The man always had his head spinning with thoughts on how to make himself a better wrestler and how he could branch into the Main-event. It was the Matt Hardy we all loved, but when he got injured things just started to go downhill. His love for wrestling died, when he had time to sit down and take a deep breath, he realized how much easier life can be for him. Then of course personal issues ensued and just caused a massive dent in Hardy's ego and his passion for Professional Wrestling as a whole. Looking at Matt Hardy now and looking back at Hardy from 2004-06 it is almost as if you were looking at two different people. When he got injured, his love for it all just vanished. You could see it in his eyes, he stopped caring. And as a result, his performance in the ring started to suck. If Matt didn't get injured maybe he would still be a great in-ring performer. But you would still have to account for his personal baggage and his ego coming into play.

Maybe he wouldn't have been as pathetic as he is, but I really don't think he would've been anything more than a perennial upper mid card star.

He was most entertaining in his Mattitude persona as an obnoxious heel. He was red hot during the Edge/Lita affair and I honestly thought he was gonna go on to so much bigger things. WWE could've made some good money pushing him a little more during that time.

But even after all that, I do think he would be where Christian is at the 'mo, which isn't bad.

Things would be slightly different for Hardy as he would still be in the WWE and therefore would never have gone to TNA.
At most Matt Hardy would be a mid-carder in the WWE. He would have feuds for the mid-card belt; put over younger superstars and dabble into the tag team division. He was good but not great and when you look at the young superstars currently in the WWE he would get nowhere.

I think Matt would have made it to the main event and you can see a couple times after his injury where his passion seemed to dwindle but then you could see him try to get back. his feud with MVP was great but then they moved him to ECW for some reason where he took Kane's role of carrying the show and did a good job as champ but then he lost it to swagger for some reason and he then turned heel by attacking his brother and really seemed to try. He changed his ring gear he would taunt other wrestlers and he was putting on good matches with jeff which he was winning for the most part. then jeff left and he was thrown into jobber status and for someone of his calibur could be kinda insulting. He then moved onto mentoring NXT rookie Justin Gabriel and he seemed to really enjoy working with his rookie. then after NXT he did MBIT and seemed to be forming an alliance with Christian but would leave the compony shortly after.

I really think his WWE career was just littered with misfortune that just seemed to make him into what he is now.

First things first...Jeff Hardy has to leave the WWE. This would have allowed Matt room to grow as the only Hardy, Check!
Now that Matt hardy is the only Hardy in the WWE it is time to move away from the gimmick of being the other half and becoming an individual. For this we can call it Matt Hardy 2.0.
The Matt Hardy vs. Christian feud/nemesis concept is put into motion. Both are great tag wrestlers and singles, but for this to work 2.0 must come out on top in an epic series of matches, but it could also include a run together as Tag champions. A way of saying Edge and Jeff are not carrying either of them.
Now MH 2.0 is on a roll with wins over a respected competitor and a finale that could have happened with him winning MITB!
Matt continues to change maybe changes his attire to a harder look. Adapts to a more technical style of wrestling to blend with his semi high flyer style. Change his hair maybe even give him a little piece of arm candy.
Matt Hardy 2.0 comes to full swing when on a fateful night after a successful but brutal John Cena title defense Matt Hardy delivers a shot to the face with that stupid briefcase and cashes in his MITB. Character has actually evolves to 3.0, has gone full heel!
After a few defenses (because that is as long as any major champion last in the WWE) he will drop the title but will be able to remain in the top tier of the WWE.
Does any of this make sense?????

I was always the odd one because I liked Matt better out of the Hardy's, but I don't think "Matt's Time" was set on anyone's watch. As some of the forum's more solid posters will occasionally remind folks in a post: "not every wrestler can hit the top". Its true, you can't have everyone on the same level; you need someone jobbers & some guys in between. Matt was very good at making mid card feuds more interesting and probably did more for WWE in that role than he would have as Champarooni. He beyond doubt did more in that role than given credit for.
