The NXT Thread Is Like Ring of Honor's Bay-Bay!

Reading these house show results coupled with his lackluster run so far (Nakamura match aside of course) makes me feel Aries is slowly becoming the American Hideo Itami.

Can confirm Nia Jax has improved incredibly. She was excellent last night. There was a spot with a mounted front face lock where she threw Asuka into a vertical suplex & held her for a couple of seconds. It was remarkable.

He's had what, three matches? Four? If Samoa Joe's run has given me anything - his battle of the century with Kevin Owens being the dampest of squibs - it's patience. Aries' match with Nakamura was indeed very good.

Speaking of Hideo Itami, he'll be due back soon, won't he? One can't help but wonder where he fits. Fans of Japanese wrestling might well be able to point me to fifty matches between KENTA and Shinsuke Nakamura but the match still holds an allure for my filthy, ignorant, western mind.

Mm, she's been doing it on telly. Well, as "on telly" as the Network is. She did it to Bayley, who I think slid out of it, and she did it to Asuka at Takeover.

Part of me wishes I'd got tickets to the latest tour of NXT but I already saw Bayley, Sami Zayn and Enzo Amore in the flesh in what I would justifiably describe the least consequential show NXT has ever put on, so I can die without regret. I also imagine they'll return to London at some point - that's also a factor.

As a Japanese wrestling fan I don't recall Nakamura and KENTA ever having a 1v1 match. Did a little searching and all I could find was a tag match where the two face each other. Definitely looking forward to a future match between these two.

You doubted Samoa Joe? For shame. I have no doubt they'll eventually book him correctly, I'm just looking at the current similarities is all.

Attacked upon debut by a resident NXT gatekeeper (except Aries never even made it to the ring), pretty much dominated in first Takeover match with no real offense, overshadowed by another incoming international talent, and losing to that talent. I'm just hoping he doesn't follow suit with the injury when they do start giving him a chance.

I'm hoping they actually follow through with that who attacked Hideo storyline from over a year ago. Joe would be the obvious answer, maybe elevate somebody else by saying it was them.

To be fair, Joe's last decade in TNA was forgettable for the most part.

Joe/Hideo could be great, the two have history together dating waaaay back to Joe's epic ROH title run, hopefully Joe could pull a little of the old KENTA out of Hideo & get him to lay in some stiffer shots, & actually connect with his kicks. It's probably the right time to finally give Hideo all those finishers that Punk & Bryan "borrowed" back to him too.

Just some thoughts from recent NXT times:

- If there was to be a Revival face turn a few months down the line (not right now, don't blow your load WWE), Authors of Pain is the team against which to do it. The previous badass team threatening to be overthrown by what is basically Wild Samoans meets the Dudleys, so they need to kayfabe "level up" and take it to them in some kind of hardcore match.

- For every lovely face lads team there is, which is all well and good, there are still a good couple of hard-hittin' villainous wrasslin teams, so I'm even more behind the "new era" of tag than I was a few weeks ago.

- Also Paul Ellering is just great. He has a compelling and haunting look. Double-took when I saw him and was like "could swear I saw him manage LOD waaay back". Wonder if they'll do anything with his daughter being on the roster. Dude also looks to have barely aged as well, if memory serves.

- I think the cards are being stacked for a "real" Horsewomen (for want of a better term). Not just a "here are four awesome women wrestlers" group, but an actual villainous stable. Charlotte + Dana + obligatory reference in Tessa Blanchard + fourth member such as aforementioned Ellering or Emma or other heel and you've got a solid, convincing group.

I tell ya, that TM-61 has spunk. I saw them at a Perth indie show once and Shane Thorne (the fruity looking one, the Kazooie to Nick Miller's Banjo if you will) did a moonsault off their titantron.

I know. I was shocked they could afford a titantron in Western Australia too.

The pair are a license to print dollarydoos for the forseeable future.

It’s a rare situation where we’re coming off a Takeover and already have another announced. In theory we have our first match set as Shinsuke Nakamura challenged Finn Balor to a match though a promo on Raw suggested that the match would be taking place tonight. For the life of me I can’t imagine NXT hot shotting a match like that so maybe it was just badly worded. Let’s get to it.

Roderick Strong is officially on the way out of ROH. Think he's NXT bound? He could help them stabilize against the rumored raid for the draft.

I'd love for Strong and Aries to hook back up and form NXT's first real "Power Trip" I honestly say they're above the tag titles but I'd love to see them go up against the current crew anyway.

That being said outside a few PWG clips and real life interviews I haven't seen Strong with any real identifiable personality qualities in years.

Pretty much a done deal, along with Moose.

He'll lose a step since he won't be able to call his opponents '******' anymore, but his PWG title run was masterful and should earn him a spot.

Strong has impressed me immensely at the three PROGRESS shows at which I've seen him. Very characterful.

They'll re-sign Chris Hero at this rate.
