I actually blame people like Fred Durst for their terrible lyrics. There's some great musicianship in nu metal that is under appreciated.






Velvet Revolver was good and I still love Slither. It's a shame that Weiland left/was fired and they just haven't bothered to find a replacement.




I actually agree on the rap and electronic elements. Metal fans seem to hate it when bands are influenced by other genres.

I'd also add Linkin Park, Deftones and Limp Bizkit as good nu-metal bands. Say what you want about Fred Durst but he's a decent vocalist at least and the the other members (especially Wes Borland) are great musicians

Of course those bands too, they're are pioneers of Nu Metal too. I'm a big Limp Bizkit fan myself and Durst is a good vocalist. Listen to his track with Soulfly called Bleed. He tears that track the fuck up! I'm not a huge fan of Soulfly but that is a killer song.

Listened to that one. I was checking out Soulfly after getting into Sepultura and got the first Soulfly album. I need to get myself Prophecy as well. Need to check out Cavalera Conspiracy and some Derrick Green era Sepultura (hear Dante XI is supposed to be good)

Black Light Burns is more on the industrial side. Really dig them.


Big Dumb Face is, well, strange but fun. Sprinkle Thrash with a little synth\drum machines & a dash of country. Eclectic mix. Duke Lion reminds me of Primus, but others seem like if Slayer, GWAR and Mr Bungle had a demon love child.

Up now is Glassjaw, one of my favorite relatively unknown bands. Anyone else know who they are?

I only know and like Cosmopolitan Blood Loss as it is a great track forwalkng through crowds of people and not giving a toss.

Are Deftones considered nu metal? They were around at the same time as the Bizkit explosion but have fared so much better.

Deftones are at times lumped in, but are far superior. If you get a chance listen to Crosses (††&#8224. It is another band that Chino is in. If you like some of the mellower stuff from Deftones you will like this.

So, some sad news. Chimaira has officially called it quits. 14 years of kick ass heavy metal, has ended. I have seen them live twice and they were fuckin' awesome! Hopefully Mark will front another band because the last couple albums were awesome.

Limp Bizkit as good nu-metal bands.

Songs aren't too bad but I saw them live at a music festival a couple years back. Thus far, they are the worst live act I've seen and I went to see Marilyn Manson who was off his mind on God knows what and walked off stage for half his act because the crowd booed his performance.

Remaining positive, best live act is Lamb of God hands down. Apart from their excellent performances, they attract a variety of fans (whom I've met and they are very nice people); everyone gets into the show and the mosh pit is amazing. Last time I saw them, we did the glorious Rubbish Rainbow (throwing rubbish from one side of the crowd to the other at a high arc, emulating a rainbow effect). Found the video of what I mean but unfortunately, the rainbow was on its final legs at that point:

I watched a gig live online and they seemed pretty good (although it was a festival) I dunno maybe it's one of those sometimes they are sometimes they aren't type deals

Some good rumors Tommy Vext former Divine Hersey singer implicated him and Tim Yeoung are in the studio recording new stuff. Maybe a new Divine Hersey album, hopefully?!.

Never seen Chimaira live (nor do I know any songs) so I can't comment but I have been to Korn. Great live band that you can enjoy sitting in the bleachers or up front and personal. They are very fluid and one of a kind. Only critique: they're not much for stage presence or crowd involvement (they'd rather play and let the crowd do their own thing). Guess that works well with the fan base though.

That's so true about Korn. They just play and that's what I enjoyed about their performance. Just go out and kick ass. You should also check out Chimiaira, they're awesome.
