Shadowmancer's Wrestler of the Week

Well I still need to watch more of the Claudio and Masawa stuff. I haven't been able to watch any of the matches at full length, but I like what I see with the Claudio promos though.

Anyways, onto Jeff Jarrett. Another one of those guys that did everythign the right way, but still gets shit on by the fans of the business. Like X has perfectly laid out, has Double J done anything to deserve some of the hate he gets online.

He puts on great matches, he adds to his moveset, his mic skills are amazing, he draws instant heat, he is a ten time world champion, I don't know what there is not to like about the guy. Good choice Shadow.

I agree with Shocky and X. Jarrett gets so much hate online for no apparent reasons.

He might be political backstage, but who isn't? He has helped build TNA from the ground up along with his father. He has proved that he is more than just a wrestler, and I thank him for that

I guess I can understand why there has been less responses with the Tag Team Tournament. But that doesn't stop the posting of thoughts on the guys I bring up. This week we Go Old School.

This Weeks Wrestler of the Week is: Bob Backlund

I've got to say that I wont be watching any of the matches. Good wrestler. But he bores me more than Jeff Hardy and HHH combined. Although I did enjoy his heel run in WWF in 1995. And that walk cracks me up. Good work though.

There are a few of his Japanese Matches and the Tag Match with Peter Maivia is considered a big thing due to Peter Maivia's Turn in it.

Noone can deny the Talent of Bob Backlund, but to me he is one of the most boring wrestler I have ever whitnessed, I would rather watch paint dry because that would be more entertaining. But he is a solid pick for old school wrestler of the week. Good pick as ever

I have a world of respect for Backlund because of how hard he works to keep in shape and what he does to still be able to perform. You can tell from how he looks and what he does in TNA right now that he may be one of the hardest working guys in any locker room along with Jerry Lynn. It's difficult for someone his age to keep up such a training schedule, and it's reasons like that guys like Roger Clemens can still pitch at the big league level - never got lazy.

A lot of people consider Backlund boring, but he is the classic old school wrestler. A lot of rest holds, I grant you, but the matches seem to make a lot more sense than, as Y2Jake points out, the disjointed high spots of a Jeff Hardy.

Backlund's feud with Bret Hart at Survivor Series 1995 was a classic, the match was good, Bret being in the chicken wing for almost 10 minutes with Owen outside getting Helen to throw the towel was classic. It's a shame it was so tainted by his 9 second loss to Kevin Nash - it sort of insulted wrestling fans everywhere basically saying "the Backlund title run was 100% transitional and served only to put the belt on Nash and further the Hart Brothers rivalry."

Last point- the Skaaland towel throw remains, to this day, one of the most infamous moments in wrestling history, and with Backlund dropping the title to Iron Sheik paved the way for the age of Hulkamania.

I am sorry Shadowmancer, I usually post something every week for Wrestler of the Week but I forgot all about it lol(even though it is clearly in your sig, I am such a doofus sometimes).

Bob Backlund, he has Old School flowing through his veins lol. He is obviously an all time great and if you want to see a pure wrestling match he will give it to you. If you are looking for the sugar and spice in a match that WWE usually puts on, you will not get one from Bob Backlund, as I previously stated he is has Old School as you can get. I really dislike the way TNA is using him and passing him off has a legend that people can make a fool out of and can't take seriously. He deserves more respect than that and TNA is just using him the wrong way IMO.

I suppose that is a better response than for the weeks previous to that.

Honestly? I never got what all the fuss about Punk is. Sure, he's an above average wrestler but there are far, far better than him. I even saw his "5 star" match with Joe, which I think is vastly overrated, and the best parts are thanks to Joe. I'll check out some of the videos and see if they change my mind.

CM Punk has amazing god-gifted talent in the ring and just amazes me with his amazing moveset, how over he is with the fans, and his amazing matches. He shows a bright future and I think he will have one eventually. He just is one of those great new talents.

Am going to sound like a newb but I'd never heard of this guy, I'm going through his matches, am quite impressed.

You are not alone Flamester, I've never heard of this guy :( and I have Youtube blocked here, so I need to wait to get home, grab a beer and enjoy some JAP good wrestling! (Shadow NEVER, I say NEVER fails with Jap choices...)

BTW shadow, is he still active? I noticed that he has been wrestling since 1987!, and last year won the G1 Climax tag league with Shisuke Nakamura(sp?)

I don't know if he is still active. There wasn't much on either Youtube nor Dailymotion in terms of information about if the guy isstill active. But I suppose so. there are matches from him, they are probably best looked up in the Chris Jericho post a few pages ago as I couldn't find the matches to post in that post. He was in WCW at one stage, first international member of the n.W.o.

He's still partially active. Good choice. There's some absolute classics there. It's just a shame as it usually is that when you pick a lesser known wrestler this thread is ignored. New fan's and people who haven't heard of him would do well to watch a few of his matches.

He's got a bigger reaction than CM Punk did. As for me, I'm just gonna watch a few of his matches then comment.

Great choice as always Shadowmancer. Abdullah is someone that is a legend but someone that we never get to really see much of in this country. A true legend. Can't wait til next week! Thanks for taking the time to do this. It's so fun to check every week.

I swear, the guy doesn't even age normally! He's truly timeless as I saw him in 3PW back in 03 and the guy didn't even look like he'd aged a day since the 80s. Good decision for wrestler of the week, as I'm sure lots of people had forgotten about the guy in the recent clusterbomb (clusterbomb... lol, gotta love that Bob Armstrong) that we call professional wrestling.

yeah Abdullah doesnt really age properly does he however thats not always a good ting he defenitely needs to ge rid of that Big Daddy V big titty thing but he defenitely makes up for it with his ability, cant say tha for viscera though

I always enjoy honoring the hardcore boys and Abby was definately the original hardcore icon. This guy has absolutely dominated the hardcore scene is Japan and around the Indy's here in the US. He's done some pretty brutal stuff over the past 25+ years. Fantastic choice.

I always thought Christopher Daniels was overrated. He doesn't have a particularly unique style and what he does, the generic high-flying, X-Division style, he doesn't do amazingly well. I mean, I find AJ Styles a more solid performer than him, and someone like Low Ki has a far more unique style. Still, solid choice.

Hot damn, I'm Mrs. Sam!!

Great choice Shadowmancer. Daniels is one of the faces of TNA and helped get the company to where it is today. There are many debates over who is better: Daniels or Styles? Back in 2002-2004 these two guys were the main stars(along with Double J) and many fans got to see something different from WWE when they saw these two guys in the ring. I honestly wouldn't be able to choose who is better, I personally like Daniels more, but I also admire all the accomplishments Styles achieved. Then 2005 came along and with it Sting and Christian Cage, who were the top stars then? That's right, Sting and Cage, Daniels was overshadowed by these two newcomers and wasn't getting half as big of push that those two got. 2006 welcomed Kurt Angle and ever since the show was all about him(and people think HHH and JJ are bad), so Daniels was not part of a high-profile feud in quite a while, the biggest probably with Sting or LAX. I would like to see him get another shot at that TNA World Championship some day.
