You mean that movie I wasted time watching that was essentially about an STD ghost? I thought it was crap & not nearly as awesome as many make it out to be. Music and atmosphere get a plus in my book- story and scare factor..... not so much.

It Follows being about an STD is probably a common thought, but I like the idea of the movie being about mortality and life and death more. I'll try to explain. When one moves from childhood to adulthood, he or she is more aware of the inevitability of death. When Jay has a sexual relationship with the guy, that represents coming of age. If you listen to what she says in the car, it makes sense. The "it" that follows represents death that is ever-present and slow, and she is now aware of it. Sex, relationships, etc. can delay death temporarily (because one stops thinking of it), but sooner or later, we all will die. I like that interpretation better than the STD one.

I agree that it wasn't very scary. But I think this movie kind of lingers in your mind, or at least it did for me, which is probably better.

Pitch Perfect sat comfortably in the middle of the venn diagram of "things I like" and "things my girlfriend likes." I really, really enjoyed it. I'm, what, two, three years late on that one? Apparently they made another one.

Amy's a well put together film, I'm just not all that interested in Amy Winehouse as a person, a musician or, as it turns out, the subject of a film. Why go see a film about her? I don't know but that question only occurred to me about ten minutes in.

Ant-Man and Inside Out this week. I'm gonna be all over that zeitgeist.

Meerkat Movies is a blessing for a man who's somehow expected to buy all his girlfriend's film tickets. I bought £2 travel insurance and get 2-for-1 cinema tickets on Tuesdays or Wednesdays all year. Ant-Man is a wonderful first draft. Considering the amount of time it spent in development hell under Edgar Wright, that's surprising. There's an inventive, unique, funny film - i.e. "I bet Edgar Wright thought of this bit" - hidden under something that's really quite bland, narratively and visually.

Michael Peña goes into business for himself, doing that whole "comedy" thing that he knows full well nobody else in the movie is capable of. Sickening.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol?

MI2 was pretty bad as a MI film but not totally shit as an action film. GP then 3 then 1 then 2 is how I'd rate them so far.

I realised last week that I actually really like quite a few Tom Cruise films, despite how much of a bellend he can appear to be at times. It always seems like he's trying to be a good person though so I can let that go.

I'm still shocked that Live Die Repeat, or whatever it was called, was touted so much as a hidden gem. It's like if someone took Groundhog Day, mixed it with Aliens and seasoned liberally with boring shite.

I like Rain Man as much as the next man.

I enjoyed Edge of Tomorrow quite a bit. They obviously had fun showing Cruise repeatedly get his ass kicked or killed then did a nice transition into how it would feel for him to constantly see everyone else die. By no means perfect but wouldn't consider it boring.

I haven't seen Cocktail, Risky Business or Top Gun. Are any worthy of their respective hype?

Mid-tier Pixar, but theirs is an altar at which I worship - because I'm secretly a twelve-year-old. The film is about the inner machinations of an eleven-year-old, so you can only imagine how much it resonated with me. I laughed perhaps four times, making it a success as a comedy. Sadness is a contender for character of the year.

It was very tempting to give Mission: Impossible one star. There wasn't really anything in the film that seemed to justify a fifth instalment or that other films in the same series hadn't already done better. I can't remember their subtitles but I really liked Phillip Seymour Hoffman's villain in the third and I really liked the level of ludicrous spy shit in the fourth. I think they ordered the villain in this one out of a catalogue.

It also doesn't help that Spy had more inventive action scenes.

If that's the case, now's the perfect time to pitch my sixties-set, Lost in Space-esque Fantastic Four film to Fox. It would be the shit.

It turns out the girlfriend is too frightened to go see The Gift, women being fragile and easily alarmed. Very well - I shall find another companion with a more masculine demeanor. Or, you know, just see it by my fucking self.

I dont get this line of thinking. Why spend tons of money to make a movie that is crap & run the risk of barely breaking even? They clearly were worried about this if they chopped up the film like people are saying in order to save money. I say if you are not going to commit to making a badass film, then give it back to someone who can & focus on a different series. Chances are that whatever you do next will be tons better than the mediocre drivel that these last 3 FF films were.
