Sam's Thread of Chattin' w/ Jake & Other Robust Subjects

I just wanted to get back into the conversation. I thought I had brought something interesting to the table and then I was one-upped. I mean, who gives a shit about Burn Notice?

Is that show still on? I remember watching the first few seasons and enjoying it, mainly for the awesomeness that is Bruce Campbell.

Last film I watched was Roger Corman's first movie, Bucket of Blood. Definitely add it to your queue, it's only like 66 minutes or something but is a hilarious send up of the beatniks of the time with some fun horror stuff.

I tried watching Dark Star, which I appreciate isn't a Roger Corman movie, but had to turn it off after about forty minutes. This is actually funny, right?

I'm not sure there's a more variable director out there than John Carpenter. Prime Carpenter. I mean, Ridley Scott's also made all-time greats and shit but the shit's because he got old.

Ridley Scott is a hack. Carpenter, along with Cronenberg and De Palma, has to be filmmaker who's shit I'll tolerate because they've made enough films I love.

Dark Star is definitely slow and a bit boring. Bucket of Blood is much more fun. It's just Dick Miller killing beatniks and turning them into sculptures for fellow beatniks to go crazy over. It's a really fun little 66 minutes and hey, you get to see the beginning of not only Corman's career, but the pantheon of directors he brought into the business afterwards like James Cameron, Peter Bogdonavich, Joe Dante, Francis Ford Coppola, and Martin Scorsese among others.

Might watch Kids tonight. Been a few years. Larry Clark is always a good bit of fun.

Been to the trophy presentation tonight. Our row is shown for the second goal but you're not there.

Overheard review of Mad Max - "Yeh it was really good, bit more of a boys film than I usually see but very enjoyable. It was like a long video."

I was asked to convince someone to see it yesterday in a sentence so I went with "Post-apocalyptic war cars go boom, featuring feminism."

Come now - Alien and Blade Runner can't both be accidents. And NorCal swears by the extended edition of Kingdom of Heaven.

I watched the extended cut of Kingdom of Heaven. It just extends the amount of boring shit you have to sit through. That movie sucks, extended or not.

I'm with Jake, Riddley Scott has made a career of accidentally making a couple great movies and a mountain of shit.
