Sam's Thread of Chattin' w/ Jake & Other Robust Subjects

There's no good movies out and I've now got a girlfriend who apparently I have to spend lots of money on. I did take her to see Blade Runner, mind you. She liked it.

I think Avengers is out this week.

Yeah, I was hoping my girlfriend was going to leave me when she knew I'd be immobile for months. Though it remains unsaid, I think she lives with me now.

Women, eh!

Age of Ultron is far too nuanced and layered to evaluate mere hours from having seen it. Kudos, however, to the fat man next to me who got out of breath eating popcorn.

Tis what I have read. Lacks the highest highs of the first, but overall is much better.

Sounds right up my alley.

Probably won't see it for at least another month. Actually going TO the cinema were I have to be around other people and listen to intensely loud speakers just ain't my bag anymore, not for a movie anyways.

Layered, maybe. Nuanced, no. I'm off work ill and I'm not sure I actually saw The Avengers last night - I think it might have been some sort of fever dream. It is absolutely chaotic. Remember when people were worried about how Joss Whedon would juggle half a dozen characters for some reason? Well, they should have worried about when he had to juggle a dozen characters - that seems to have been his breaking point. This fucking movie never slows down for a second. Alright, well, it does, for about five minutes halfway through. It starts out and it's like FUCKING AVENGERS HUAAAGGGH! And then five minutes later it's like FUCKING AVENGERS HUAAAGGGH! And then by the end of the movie it's like THERE'S FUCKING AVENGERS FUCKING EVERYWHERE! HUAAAAAGGGGGHHHH!

There are some really great sequences in here, but they're sequences within sequences within sequences following more sequences. Nothing's allowed to sit. It's like a Ring of Honor match and you best believe even Hawkeye's gonna get his shit in.

I updated this on a tablet. Took me ages.

The Avengers might be good. I wouldn't know. I was out like a light about twenty minutes in. Paul Bettany looked silly. Though he was Mortdecai so his career is on an upwards swing.

Couldn't find your Daredevil thread Sam although that's mainly down to lack of trying.

2 and a bit episodes to go and holy shit has it been good. Charlie Cox's blind acting is pretty ropey but Vincent D'Onofrio has been excellent as Fisk. The episode that dealt with his childhood is probably my second favourite ep so far after Condemned.

Love it, absolutely love it.

Unless you were meaning a low for Fisk, I feel like I've missed something.

Very good ending and I didn't come too close to hating Foggy when he was going through his moody phase. Definitely comes off as childish and petulant but the guy's hurt and feels stupid so I let it slide.

That suit and that last fight are both embarrassingly bad. My interest in a second season takes a pretty big dent if they're going to insist on Daredevil wearing something that looks like a cross between Kick-Ass and a fucking gimp. I've genuinely not seen anyone say they like it - and this is the internet, where people like weird shit like professional wrestling.

Well I'll be the first person on the Internet to like the costume, or at least not have an issue with it. Fisk being the first person to match up with Murdock without any weapons was a bit strange but he has been presented as a very restrained ball of rage so I can buy him standing up to and dishing out a fair bit of punishment. The corridor fight did set an incredibly high bar though.

It isn't like the suit had nipples though so using that as an excuse to not watch a second season and/or spin off is a little bit silly.

I have to say, after thirteen near hour long episodes, I got a bit tired of it. I blame Netflix for making episodes ten minutes longer than they need to be.
