Sam's Thread of Chattin' w/ Jake & Other Robust Subjects

You think Annabelle is crap? You should see Ouija. Though I still think it's a better horror than The Babadook. I still feel I was lied to on that one.

I watched V/H/S the other day... certainly one of the worst horror's I've seen. Made Annabelle look good.

Succubus girl was decent

Horror films as a genre are really rather shit, so I try to watch only the very highly recommended ones. One imagines that Oujia, Annabelle and even V/H/S don't fit that criteria.

Ninja Turtles -

Very oddly paced and edited, no?

Surely Jakey has seen this, but goodness knows I'm not digging through that leviathan of a list.

She was the closest thing to being scary all movie.

Indeed. Watching it back a second time where you see her on the periphery of a shot just staring at the guy with glasses is super creepy. The final story with the 'haunted house' has some nice tricks and the end with the train is pretty tense.

I'm going to Amsterdam for a few days tomorrow so I'll watch it when I get back. I mean, I imagine that Amsterdam has cinemas but it also has drugs and prostitutes and there's only so much time in the day.

Just a quick heads up: I almost certainly won't like Interstellar. I'll watch it just because I can't bear to be out of the zeitgeist.

Jealous, partying is meant to be amazing there.

I said the same thing before I saw it, just know what you're getting into before you watch it. But fuck, I've so over these near 3 hour movies and the Hobbit is coming out soon to top it off.

I'm off to see Interstellar in a bit, fully expecting to hate it. I'd say that something's wrong with me but I actually very rarely go to see films I expect to dislike; the pull of the zeitgeist is just too strong.

Briefly, there was the consideration of going to see Mr. Turner in a double bill, but - again - there are only so many hours in the day.

Much, much better than I was expecting. Inception was mediocre, The Dark Knight Rises was appalling, I thought for sure that this would continue on the downward spiral. There's clear inspiration by Spielberg and Kubrick - and it obviously never quite reaches the same heights - and it's sometimes pretty dopey but it actually delivers on its premise rather than putting forward interesting ideas and never confronting them.

Three stars is a recommendation. Apparently.

Last weeks double-bill consisted of Mr. Turner & Interstellar. Long day. Real long day. One gets ★ the other gets ★★. Star rating isn't refelective of Mr. Turner's quality as a film. Well made stuff that, but fuck me it was boring.
