Randy Orton accused of Assault & Battery against a teen

Story broke earlier today:

Saugus - World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Randal “Randy” Orton is facing a court hearing for allegedly spitting gum in the face of a juvenile and swearing at him outside Kowloon Restaurant.

On Jan. 12 a 15-year-old male walked in to the Saugus Police Department to report that Orton, 29, assaulted him in the Kowloon parking lot earlier in the day.

Police Lt. Leonard Campanello said the purported victim alleged that Orton, a third generation professional wrestler and former WWE World Heavyweight champion, reacted angrily to a request for a photo at the Route 1 restaurant around 6:30 p.m.

The teenager told police he took a photograph of Orton in the parking lot and then asked to pose with him for another shot.

But according to the victim, Orton, a 6-foot 4-inch, 245-pound wrestler famous for his RKO finishing move, spit his gum at him and called him a derogatory name.

Campanello said the teen's mother confronted Orton, who allegedly responded “so sue me” when she voiced her protest.

I suppose this should be of no surprise to anyone, given Orton's unprofessional behavior in the past with both fellow workers as well as fans .... including smoking joints in front of WWE agents, dropping feces in Diva's purses, causing a ruckus in a hotel room and trashing it, blowing up at room service in another hotel because of some screwup with his wakeup call which he allegedly threw food at the staff, and anything else anyone can add.

Of course at the same time, all Orton apparently did was spit gum in his face and curse at him. I don't know. Still you have to watch what you do with fans in public, because people are just looking for a lawsuit at any opportunity.

I'd like to know if you think given Orton's actions, if you think this is really all that big a deal and if you expect there to be consequences for Orton based on his status in the WWE as a key player.

To be honest it's pathetic behavior by Orton and lets just be frank, this is him. He has had issues with people taking pictures of him before. I can't remember the exact time and place but I know this isn't the first time.

Sure there could be consequences but with Wrestlemania coming up and TNA trying to mount a charge I'm not quite sure who needs who more.

They won't fire him, if they haven't done it for all the things stated above they won't do it now.

The big guys like Orton can afford to do these things and it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit if nothing happens at all, this is who he is and I really don't feel bad for the kid or the Mom you don't just take pictures of people you ask and if they say yes it's yes but if they say no then you should leave them alone plain and simple.

To be honest I can see why he snapped, he probably wanted to relax and here's a kid berating him for a photograph, the man probably gets this all the time and he was probably tired of it, however it does not excuse him for spitting at him and swearing, if he didn't want to have a photo taken say 'I don't want my photo taken leave me alone' he would have come across as a bit of a dick but he wouldn't be having a court hearing

doesn't shock me. heck i wouldn't be shocked if he RKO'd the kid and punted the mom when she was caring for him. sometimes guys snap because the road trips wear them down and some take them better than others. i don't see Cena, HHH, HBK, Taker etc. doing that but Orton's not them. i don't think he's had a break for a while lately while the others have. Vince should probably look into that and maybe for future reference, we know who not to ask for pictures

Oh please just because you like the guy on TV doesn't mean you have to defend him no matter what he does. From the facts of the report (which is all we can base anything on) he was a dick, I'm sure lots of people more famous than him put up with more persistent people asking for photograph's and the like but they don't throw a hissy fit over it. I thought at first "wow Orton's a shithead" but I started thinking that who really knows the entire story? Is there any proof he spit gum at him? Nah there isn't. It's possible, and many would believe it because of his previous dick-like actions but who really knows. The kid was 15. Who knows what he really said to Orton. I'm not condoning Orton's behavior if he did it, no matter what the kid said, but most likely there's more to this story. We'll just have to wait and see.

Tiredness can make you ratty and being on the road as often as he is would make anyone ratty, this in turn makes them do stuff that they wouldn't do if they weren't

Orton still hasn't grown up I see. I wouldn't object to a 30 day suspension right after The Rumble, and a 3-6 month break after Wrestlemania as long as no key players are already out. It's a shame that someone so talented is such a douche and takes it for granted.

Even tho spitting gum on someone might not look like much, yes it can really count as assault and battery. Same with just spitting on someone actually. That's just the way the law is set up.

A short temper is one thing, talking shit is one thing, but any kind of physical action of any sort can get you in hot water.

You could also say the opposite. Just because people don't like him or want to take things in the past and hold it against him, why go after him for something like this when we don't have all the facts? Sure, his fans will defend and all but his detractors will throw stones immediately. It goes both ways. And from the looks of the responses in this thread, we have more people ready to take issue with him over this than those who are waiting to hear more about the incident in question.

Randy Orton is probably my favorite wrestler going right now. But this is terrible. I would not be surprised one bit to find out this is completely true. Let's not forget, Randy Orton has absolutely been an asshole in the past. Hell, he did a few months in military prison and was dishonorably discharged from Marines, so does this shock me? No, not at all. Just like it didn't surprise me when I found out Tiger Woods was banging anything that moved haha. Suspend him? Sure, if I were Vince and I found out that one of my wrestlers did this to a teenage fan, regardless of what he was asking for, I would suspend him. Even if it turns out the kid was a little d-bag, you have to control yourself in public when you are representing a company. If it's true, disciplinary action is justified, even if he is the most talented guy they have.

Orton truly reminds me of a kid sometimes. He has been so rude to many members of the WWE Universe, including a friend, so this doesn't seem to crazy to me. After a show I went to, my friend just wanted to shake his hand, and he looked the other way and said, "Fuck off, kid." However, this person realized the stress of the superstars, and said, "Oh well." and walked away. So as it is possible for this to be true, the kid may be milking it a bit.

I have to agree, I don't believe anyone on these forums has ever had a run in with Randy Orton, there has never been a mug shot of the guy for his alleged abusive behavior.

I'm not saying he hasn't been abusive towards members of the roster but then again he is an entertainer and what do people do to entertainers?, look for cash, people do it all the time, allege incidents accuse celebrities of inappropriate conduct in order for them to cut a check and make themselves eligible for the next slime that wants a shot at his over sized wallet.

In regards to this situation i would rather see how this plays out before pointing the finger at Randy, yes he maybe a douchbag but kids? I don't think anyone can be that abusive to people who are basically paying your way, then again i maybe wrong.

I don't know if anyone on here is from the Boston area, but I go to the Kowloon's after every WWE event here. The Kowloon restuarant has served hundreds of celebrities, their walls are lined with autographs and pictures of celebrities who have been there. There was a lady there that night flipping out about how Randy Orton was an @&*. She was saying that when he got out of his car he flicked his cigarette toward her child and then spit in the child's direction. She never mentioned that the child was trying to take a picture, get a picture with, or obtain and autograph from Randy. When Randy came inside the restuarant he did treat the hostess rudely and thats when the mother started to spread the news about her child. I have a feeling it either didn't happen or it happened more like Randy got out of the car flicked his cigarette and spit and the kid happened to be standing near by. I know for a fact the lady never said Randy spit in her sons face.

I do think though, between this incident (regardless of how it plays out) and the freak out on Monday during the triple threat match, we will see a severe decrease in Randy Orton on WWE TV. I am not saying suspension or anything like that but perhaps when we get those stories about superstars being in the dog house, it will come to fruition this time with Orton.

This is a tough situation for the WWE. They have put a lot of stock and trust into this kid over the years, and along the way, he has pushed buttons. Now, no one is perfect, and mistakes will be made, but there has to be a limit. With that said, you can't punish someone based on heresay evidence. First, let the law make what they will of it, pitting Orton's word against the kid and his mother. Most likely, nothing will come of it and Orton will get a slap on the wrist from the law. However, it is bad publicity whether it's true or not and to show Orton he needs to be more careful, I'd certainly limit his main events (which limits his paydays) for the time being. When he earns that respect back by doing the right thing, then he can fight it out with everyone else to earn those main event spots and checks.

I'm not surprised that Orton has been accused of dickish behavior because he has a long history of it. If the allegations are true, would this affect Randy in means of him losing against Sheamus at the Royal Rumble? I don't think he will be suspended for it because he's one of the top guys but it does dishearten me that CM Punk can be more in trouble for doing something less but that is the way it goes sometimes.

It is not that big of a deal and was probably blown way out of proportion. Fans can be annoying little pricks at times. There is no reason what so ever to confront someone in a restaurant while they are eating and ask them to do something for you. Plus, the report itself says that Orton spit gum at him. personally i don't hold Orton in any way responsible... this is pro wrestling... not Sesame Street! these guys don't need to handle themselves with manners and class everywhere they go!! god knows...
