[Official] Chris Benoit Memorial Thread

If his son died first, it still doesn't prove that romour true until the times of death, etc. are proven true. I'm sorry but I just can't overlook the fact that Benoit allegedly took the life of his son and wife. The fact that he knew them intimately and they loved and trusted him just makes it more sickening. People need to get their priorities right, the fact he killed his family is much more important than how well he did the diving headbutt surely.

I don't understand why people are doubting that Chris Benoit killed his family and then himself.

People are doubting because no one wants to believe somebody they looked up to and admired could be capable of something like that. It's true, eventually everyone will have to open their eyes and see things for how they really are, but right now, it's just too soon. The wound is still too fresh. For me, the guy was a hero. So over time, as I deal with losing one of the best wrestlers to ever step into a ring and a man I truly respected, then I'll start to deal with whatever horrible thing he may have done over the past few days and what exactly occured to turn one of the most kind, respectful, and loving men in the business into possibly a monster. Maybe that makes me weak, maybe it makes me naive, but it's what I have to do to deal. Maybe I'm not the only one either.

I surely dont condone or agree with the people that think a murderer is a legend. Just relaying what i'm hearing. The worst thing i have read so far is a guy jokingly wondering if he used the crippler crossface to kill them. What a Dbagg

Benoit's legacy as a wrestler will not be tainted. You cannot take away all the man has done for the world of professional wrestling. His influence, whether recognized or not, will ALWAYS be felt and known. As a man, if he did in fact kill his wife and 7 year old son, fuck him, let him burn, but, as a wrestler, a performer, and a sportsman, his legacy will always be what it is now

Please. Will you ever be able to look at another Benoit match and think. ''Shit, he killed his innocent 7 year old son''? I doubt it.

Obviously nothing is concrete. But where's the Benoit tribute show? It certainly isn't happening at tonights Smackdown taping.

Eddie Guerrero's death was tragic. His past caught up with him. That is a wrestling death to be mourned. Benoit's death isn't tragic. The death of his wife and child is.

It's true, I will never be able to look at another Benoit match, if this is indeed true, without those thoughts in my mind, but I, for one, will still be able to appreciate the art form he made every match he was in. True, the death of his wife and child is more tragic, especially with everything as it stands now, BUT, you cannot deny his contributions to the buisiness. If we want to start splitting hairs, there are some that say eddie's death wasn't tragic because he had it coming with the years of drug and alcohol abuse he tortured his body with. And yet, he is still a hero to millions, 2 years after his death.

There's a slight difference between a drug addict and a potential murderer dont you think? And when you kill a child that also put's you in the camp of a child abuser in my eyes.

If it is 100% confirmed that he killed his wife and son than I have lost all my respect for Chris Benoit the man(not the wrestler). He was an excellent wrestler, one of my favorites and that will never take away his wrestling ability, but if he killed two of my family members(or anyone elses on these forums) instead of his own than we would all feel a little differently now wouldn't we? It is very difficult for me to believe he did it but all the facts clearly point to him doing it. And to make matters worse it is reported that they each died on seperate days which make it seem as if he planned it all out like a serial killer, but I do not want to get into that. In the end it is still a sad tragedy and it has me all shook up like a lot of others on these forums.

we dont know times of death, causes of death or motives yet so all we can do is sit back and hope the truth is Benoit is not to blame for it all and wait to find out why these events happened

well the wwe site must know more than they are saying, they have taken down all the tributes and just reporting the news story. Hopefully this proves they were not aware of the details prior to organizing a 3 hour tribute for a man that murdered his family

Harold Shipman was called by some a "great doctor"
Fred West was called by some a "nice neighbour"
Chris Benoit was called a "great wrestler"
But at the end of the day (if the facts are true) he is a cold bloodied killer and does not deserve to be called "great" a "legend" or anything that would tarnish the words used for people that deserve that moniker.
If Benoit killed his son and his wife then he deserves no respect and should be forgotten.
The wrestling achievements cannot overcome the cold hearted killings he may have performed.

More logic. Thank you.

To me i thought about this today and in my eyes the 3 greatest technical wrestlers of the last 20 years are bret hart, kurt ange and chris benoit. To me perception is the you have hart and angle as 1 and 2 cause they also were speakers. But in my honest opinion a benoit performance for the fact he went 100% from start to finish. Great technical skills with submissions, great suplexer, and can high fly as well. For my money he is the best technical wrestler of the last 20 years followed by hart at #2 and angle #3.

as i have said before we do not know the ins and outs as of yet and i believe no body should be speculating untill the results of the post mortems are decided i

i agree i think that as of last night WWE was unaware of the possible murder and i dont think they would honor him like that if they knew he commited a murder.

ok has no one remembered that he had said that his child was spitting up blood thats why he had went back home .. carbon monoxide is called the silent killer no one is looking at this retrospective and in all honesty just because someone is a wrestler and they portray a character that may be quiet and has that evil look in his eye.. well thats a character next yoyur gonna tell me viserca is the worlds largest love machine and really dances like that at home we all saw when benoit won the title and we saw the love in his eyes for his family now.. we have all heard about other stories about them not going to a family crisis meeting lets leave this alone lets all show some respect and wait whether benoit did do it or not you can never take away anythging from him he was one of the greatest performers of all time i beleive in the end regardless of what happens you can never take that away from him

R.I.P
CHRIS BENOIT

Well said finally someone who is not speculating or slandering till the facts come out ie Post mortems

I want to write a few thoughts about Chris Benoit, and at this point I'm not focusing on "cause of death" involving any members of Benoit's family..at this point nothing has been proven, and everything is too fresh and I refuse to believe the worst..I didn't follow Chris's carreer before he came to the WWF/WWE, but of course as a long time wrestling fan..it was common knowledge who Chris Benoit was..He was by far one of the Best wrestlers ever..for real..and yeah maybe he wasn't the greatest on the mic..he couldn't cut a "rip-roarin" promo..but that didn't matter at all.watching a Chris Benoit match..whether it was in the main event for a title..or in the middle of the card fighting an up and comer..it was always expected to be a great match..I remember a skit that was on Smackdown a little while back..Chris had been on a streak where he was beating Orlando Jordan in less than a minute..so the skit was Chris making up a cup of coffee..in the same amount of time..I just remeber it being so hilarious, because he just looked so "natural" stirring up that cup of coffee..This whole thing is a real shock right now, as I'm sure it is to many..but again as a wrestling fan I loved watching him perform..he was in a very elite class, and will be missed terribly..and to his wife and young son..may God watch over them and keep them safe..

one of my fave wrestlers and I will miss him greatly. he's up there with eddie and andre!

i met benoit once, when i was 16 years old. he was amazing. it was at an autograph signing and everyone else had left at the scheduled time. i remember chris benoit standing up, seeing the huge lines of fans still there, grabbing edge and the two of them sitting back down to sign more autographs. they stayed for another 3 hours, missed their flights, and probably got reamed a new one by Vince McMahon, but they got every single fan out and happy. the fact is that chris benoit always brought the thunder. just his entrance music used to get me pumped to watch the match he was in, even if he was just a lumberjack in someone else's match. you saw the tribute special last night, i'm sure of it, there must have been something about him for all those people to break down and cry. Chavo even stated that Chris Benoit was an honorary member of his family. Whether or not they regret what they said, which i'm sure they don't, it doesn't matter.
this thread is supposed to be about remembering the wrestler, not the man. regardless of what he did or didn't do, that was the MAN chris benoit, not the wrestler. actors like Bruce Willis don't go home and stay Det. McClane, so if Bruce Willis did something horrible, would everyone denote the amazing movies he's made or things he's done?
i'm not trying to start a fight here, if you want to "spit on" chris benoit's legacy as a wrestler, then that's on you, but don't reprimand the people that want to remember him for what he did for the industry rather than what he did in his home.

fuck him. scumbag. killing your own child? i lost all respect for the man and the WRESTLER

Benoit was one of those rare wrestlers that actualley made me wanna watch WWE, he was gifted in just about every area except for mic skills which even then, the guy was still over just because of his in-ring ability. He could put on good matches with so many different people (he even made lashely look good) but im thankful that we got to see so many great matches for the times he graced the squared ring.
Im thankful for the emotional night where he won RAW's championship belt agaisnt to credible main eventers, Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels And Triple H, Even if they are reporting that Benoit did these horrible things to his family, it is still fair to pay homeage to the man once known as pegasus kid, Chris Benoit.

Words from Bret Hart...

News of deaths shocks Hart family
By TODD SAELHOF AND DAVE DORMER, SUN MEDIA

Members of the Hart family wrestled with the sudden, tragic death of Chris Benoit yesterday.

Legendary wrestler Bret Hart had to stop and compose himself often when talking fondly of a man considered his brother and friend.

"I don't know the details, and I'm not sure I even want to know," said Hart, just hours after learning of the discovery of Benoit's body -- along with those of his wife and son -- in his suburban Atlanta home.

"He was like a family member to me, and everyone in my family is taking it real hard.

"It's almost like reliving the whole Owen (Hart) death over again."

At a young age, Benoit, an Edmonton native, became a standout among many wrestling prospects who trained in the famed 'dungeon' basement of the Hart family's home in Calgary.

"Chris was always one of the good guys -- a straight guy and a hard-working guy," Hart said.

"When you list off all the qualities of someone like Benoit, he had a lot of integrity and was a good, family man.

"He was really respected and really loved by everybody."

Bret's older brother Ross Hart, a producer and former part-time wrestler, further described the onetime 'Canadian Crippler' as respectful, polite and very humble.

"We kind of adopted him when he first broke into the business in 1986," said Ross, adding Benoit was a huge fan of Stampede Wrestling and idolized The Dynamite Kid.

He's been an outstanding mentor to the next generation of Hart family wrestlers, said Ross and Bret's sister Diana.

That's especially true of the last six months in Atlanta, where Harry Smith (son of the late Davey Boy Smith), Nattie Neidhart (daughter of Jim Neidhart), T.J. Wilson (Nattie Neidhart's fiance) and Ted Hart (Ross' nephew) had been training close to Benoit.

"My son Harry and the others have all been talking about all the great plans that were to come with Chris mentoring them," said Diana, the former wife of Davey Boy Smith.

Very sad indeed....I can't even describe the emotions involved in this matter, and this is easily the worst thing to ever happen in the history of wrestling.
