The Holy One
What's really good?
The O line was flat out dominated. The number of sacks isn't as important as the fact that they got absolutely no push in terms of the running game and also on those two 4th and shorts. They were flat out beat in the trenches. The Falcons are most successful when they can run the ball and they couldn't do that because they lost the battle in the trenches. Even on defense they ultimately lost the battle. They got pressure because they were blitzing a lot but the Giants had one of their best rushing games of the season. It's just not time to label Matt Ryan.
Which is why Mularkey is getting the same blame as Ryan. You want to know the plays in which Turner got the most yards? Draws, which is something they normally don't do. Other than that it was run, run, run up the middle as always. And as for the 4 and shorts: the first one, the O Line actually gave a decent push, Ryan just fell down in the pile and hoped for the best. The second, that was on the OC again, why would you show an empty backfield which clearly signals QB sneak instead do something, I don't know, different? They're most successful when they mix up instead of going back to formula, but when that don't work shouldn't the QB rise to the challenge and do what's expected of him to win the game? Which is why I'm saying that Ryan's time is about over b/c he hasn't shown that he can win when called upon.
The only reason for the Giants running numbers is due to 2 big running plays. Other than that, the defense kept them in check for most of the game. They did what was asked of them.
