My team "Da Bears" are going to have a better year than last year. Christian Battlez and Ty may disagree with me and go with the Vikings to win the Norris Division, and rightfully so. But they are hinging on either Brett Favre or either Jackson or Frerotte (sp?) I think. Yes Adrian Peterson is the best running back in the game, and the Vikings defense is good, but the Bears have just as good a defense if not better when completely healthy, Matt Forte is a beast himself, and adding Cutler has added that presence for the 4th quarter when needing to step up to win the game if it is close. I predict an 11-5 record, winning the division by 1 game over the Vikings.

Hear me out now. The Bears defense is hungry, and has needed to prove itself for 2 years. I believe this year that with Lovie calling the shots on defense, they will step up and play to their abilities, because Bob Babich certainly wasn't getting the job done. Why did Ron Rivera have to leave???? I know it was to go for a head coaching job, so no need to answer that. The offense is certainly improved with the addition of Jay Cutler. "Oh but the Bears don't have any receivers."...blah blah blah. Bears never had receivers, their best weapons are Matt Forte, Desmond Clark, and Greg Olsen. Should Hester be kept at receiver, and adding Earl Bennett and Juaquin Iglesias and a few others to the receiving group, they could be a good offensive team. Special teams they are always in the top group, running back kicks, field goals and punts, kick coverage. The Bears practice that religiously, and it shows on the field.

It will be a fun season in the NFL, and I just think the Bears will edge out the Vikings this season.

Yeah, because Trent Edwards is going to scramble to his left side

It's not a bullshit stat when you ask the Buffalo fans who actually watched all the games. When that trade was rumored, I read around before and after it of whether or not they should trade him and pretty much all of them and columnists were ripping Peters a new ass calling him a softy and a whiny bitch moping around because of his contract. If he turns into the same player he was in 2007, fine. Good for him and you. But he has alot to prove. He was garbage last year, and everyone of those guys I named were better.

Brian Dawkins is Brian fucking Dawkins. That's all the needs to be said. Very few are as vocal, tough and determined as he is. His leadership aspect is rated just right IYAM.

Who talks to Bills fans?

I've seen a breakdown of the sacks allowed on another site, I'm NOT worried. You can worry for me if you like, but it doesn't concern me.

As much as I loved Dawk, as much as you can love another man you never met, his vocal leadership isn't as valuable as people tend to think. Did the Steelers or Cardinals have any vocal leaders like that? No. There are only two players in the NFL who possess such strong vocal leadership, one being Dawkins and the other being Ray Lewis. Considering there's only 1 ring between them I don't see it necessary to sacrifice on field production for leadership.

Brett Favre informed the Vikings on Tuesday that he would not come out of retirement. It appears that the NFL Legend is done, and his saga is finally over. It has been confirmed by Vikings kicker, Ryan Longwell, who received a text from Favre. Brett's text read, "I had to decide against it, appreciate your support but I had to make a tough decision." He also said, "It was the hardest decision I've ever made. I didn't feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable. I would like to thank everyone, including the Packers, Jets and Vikings, but most importantly, the fans."

Wow, I'm shocked. Bret Favre is worse than Ric Flair at staying retired, but it appears as though he's actually done. I never thought I'd see the day. The Vikings are going to be stuck with someone mediocre, and will have to rely heavily on AP. In my mind, they aren't even favorites for their division now. Here's to a hall of fame career.

Going swimming.. Discuss.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

Ok I needed to get that out of my system. This could go one of both ways now, we are either fucked for this season because of shotty QB play, or we were trying to get Favre over nothing, and hopefully....maybe.....god damn it.......Jackson may actually develop into a decent QB, or Sage "Helicopter" Rosenfels plays decent enough to not kill us in big games. Though at this point, I'm hurt, disappointed, and generally pissed off.

The way I see it, either we get killed this season and we get a very solid draft pick to get Tebow or Bradford in the draft, or we do like we did last year and go 10-6 or 11-5 and make the playoffs only to lose out yet again. Honestly, at this moment, we need a QB we know will be a good quarterback instead of fucking around with these half assed, might be good, might be shit QB's that we've been getting lately. The only thing I can think of that could be a positive out of all this, is that Chilly gets his ass canned after an abysmal season, or after a first round exit again.

Just to think we could have been a contender in the NFC with at least a solid QB, Favre was that option I believe, and now we're back to fucking square one all over agian.

PHILADELPHIA -- Jim Johnson, whose attacking defenses helped the Philadelphia Eagles to one Super Bowl appearance and five NFC title games, has died. He was 68.

Johnson had taken a leave of absence from the team in May as he continued to battle a cancerous tumor on his spine. The Eagles announced his death on Tuesday afternoon.

A veteran of 22 years as an NFL assistant, Johnson is regarded as one of the top defensive minds in the league, known for building units able to pressure the quarterback from every angle. His defenses consistently ranked among the best in the league, including last season, when the Eagles finished third in total defense and fell one victory short of the Super Bowl.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Vicky, two children and four grandchildren.

Very sad news, it's a shame it's going to be overshadowed by the Brett Favre saga. Johnson was a damn good defensive coordinator, and was great at putting his players in a position to succeed. The Eagles defense was something to fear, as their blitzes were top notch, and very difficult to block. Take a look at the Philly-Pittsburgh game from last year, that is the perfect example of two blitzing defenses causing major havoc in the backfield for the opposing offense. Big Ben barely had any time at all during that game to throw.

The NFL lost a true defensive genius. RIP Jim Johnson.

First of all, I would like to say R.I.P

Secondly, the game just lost one of its best coordinators of all time. The guy was a genius, and over the last 10 years or so he's had one of the best defenses in the game. He's gotten his defense close to glory several times since 1999. During his tenure in Philly Eagles defenders have racked up 26 pro bowl selections. That is fucking marvelous and it goes to show you how great he was. This is a sad day for the NFL, the Eagles organization, and the Johnson family.

Are you serious?

WOW. Didn't see that coming, NFL Network was just talking about his health a day or two ago. Just wow...

R.I.P to Jim Johnson. One of the greatest DC`s, evar.

Shit, that's awful. Everytime I heard about him he seemed like a great guy, definetly deserved a shot as a head coach.

He was an outstanding defensive coordinator. Kind of reminds me on Labeau with all of his blitz packages and stuff. He did a lot in Philly despite not having a lot of great players. Best wishes to his family.

I am completely sick of the whole Brett Favre thing and I'm glad that it's finally over. I understand that he would've helped the Vikings, but he definetly wasn't their savior. He was nothing more than an average quarterback last year and he certainly hasn't gotten any better.

The only reason the Vikings were pushing so hard for him is because their current QB situation is awful with only Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfells. He would've improved their team, but so would have about a dozen other quarterbacks that were avaliable in the offseason. I think the Vikings would have been much better suited signing someone like Byron Leftwich than waste their whole summer begging for Favre, only to get rejected.

Hopefully this really is the end. If I see Chris Mortensen on my TV talking about Brett Favre changing his mind in a week's time I'll break my own TV.

I, for one, will be glad to not have to listen to those damn Favre updates on every single show on ESPN all fucking day. Would he have helped the Vikings? Probably. But would it have good for the team to have the media circus following Favre and the rest of the team all year? I say no. Jackson is a young quarterback that has plenty of potential and, in my opinion, fits in better with the Vikings run first system. He isn't the best quarterback by any stretch of the imagination, but he can improve and will be greatly aided by Peterson at running back. The Vikings will be fine, and I really hope this is the last we hear from Brett Favre until he goes in the Hall of Fame.

That's very sad and my condolences to his family and the NFL.

We NFL fans have an amazing coordinator, he was one of the best and there will never be another one like Jim Johnson. He will be missed, again R.I.P. Jim Johnson.

You know, I don't trust Brett Favre in the least. Nothing that comes out of his mouth can be taken as fact. Who's to say that Brett Favre doesn't see a team who needs a savior in November, realizing he only has to play eight or nine games, and comes back? He's got nothing else to do. He's sitting on his tractor in Mississippi. He doesn't want to be a broadcaster. He doesn't want to do any of that. He wants to play, but doesn't trust his arm. His ankle isn't stopping him from playing, trust me. He and the Jets went on a slide at the end of the year, and he isn't going to want to repeat that. If he only had to play eight games... Who knows. Favre isn't going to disappear. We all know that. Will he play? We'll just have to keep tuning in.

Personally, I hoped that Brett would have retired on May 4th, 2008 like he originally did. Of course, he went on to play for the Jets in August. Favre played well through most of the season and then completely fell apart. He retired again.

I live in Wisconsin right near the Minnesota border. so I've heard a lot of opinions on Favre from both Viking and Packer fans. Several Viking fans I've talked to want Favre because they think he'll do well with him, some Viking fans want Favre because they want to spite the Packer fans. Most Packer fans I've talked to just want him to retire, rather than stick it to the Packer fans by playing for one of their most heated rivals. The predominate "conspiracy theory" I've heard is that Favre wasn't going to play for the love of the game, but to stick it to Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy for not giving him his starting spot back when he asked for it in July 2008. I think that if that was the reason Favre was going to the Vikings, it's a pretty poor reason for doing so. In my opinion, it would have been unfair to Aaron Rodgers to tell him one day that he's getting the starting quarterback spot, only to tell him the next day that he's back to warming the bench because Favre decided he wasn't ready to call it quits.

Favre said he'd retire but I'm not going to take his word for it. I'll wait until the season starts to see if Favre actually retires. As far as I know he hasn't submitted his retirement papers to the NFL yet.

I hope he does decide to retire permanently, so we can actually see something different in the sports section of the newspaper or on ESPN. The next time we should hear about Brett Favre and football is when he is inducted into the hall of fame.

I don't think we're quite done with this yet. Apparently, November 1st is going to be an important day. That's the week that the Vikings go on their bye week and if they are struggling, they may ask Favre if he wants to come back and he is apparently going to consider it. I knew that Brett couldn't walk away from the game for good. He just doesn't know when to call it quits. The reason that he would consider a comeback in the middle of the season is because he'll only have to play 9 or 10 games. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I loved Brett Favre so much during his days in Green Bay. His 2007 season was so fun to watch, he ressurected his career in an amazing way. No one would have ever thought he would perform at such a high level again. I respected his decision to retire too, he went out, nearly on top. But when he decided he wanted to come back last year, it turned into such a joke. The guy is a good teammate, I understand that, but I feel he put himself before any team last year, and it hurt his legacy a bit IMO. Not his legacy to everyone, but now, when I think of Brett Favre, I try to turn my brain off. I don't want to hear this guys name for a few years. I'm just so sick of hearing about him on SportsCenter. I would have been sort of happy if he came back to the Viks, just because he may have made them a Super Bowl contender, and I'd like to see that while I'm waiting for the Rams to become legit again (Long wait, I know :( ). But I mean, please Brett, just stay out of the news for awhile, because I don't think many people want to hear what you're up to.

According the the main site James Laurinaitis has signed a 4 year deal with the Rams.

I watched this kid play for Ohio State a few times and damn is he isn't a good player. His list of accolades is pretty impressive too.

Nagurski Trophy Winner 2006
Butkus Award Winner 2007
Lott Trophy Winner 2008

Not to mention an average of 10 tackles a game and his career high of 130 tackles. This kid has got plenty of talent and I think he will be a huge assest to the Rams this coming season.

As a fan of the Miami Dolphins, they have made many improvements over the offseason but I dont think they can replicate their 2008-2009 miracle season. They do have a much better secondary, and with Pat White the wildcat has opened new possibilities, but then they have the toughest schedule in the NFL, instead of playing all of the West Coast teams that were god awful. I say the Dolphins go 9-7 this year and have a chance at a wild card this year as they are better then both the Bills and J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!

Man I cannot believe how much money the Giants have given to Eli Manning. He's now one of the top 3 highest paid players in the NFL, along with Julius Peppers and Carson Palmer (:lmao: who the fuck thought that contract was a good idea?!).

Eli isn't even one of the top three quarterbacks, let alone top three PLAYERS in the league. I truly do not understand what the Giants are thinking giving him that kind of money, unless Eli's agent had them by the throats or something.

What do you guys think? Ridiculous contract? I for one think so. Shit I'd rather have David Garrard than Eli Manning.

Well look at it this way. Who is better Eli or Peyton? Apparently the Giants think Eli because he is making more money the Peyton. It is an absolute joke how do you give a quarterback who really is just an average quarterback, the only time I saw greatness was in their Super Bowl run but he never had a regular season that was spectacular. Peyton, Brady, McNabb, Pennington, Brees, Warner, and even Romo I would rather have than Eli.

All I can say is this. I have four picks of each conferences division winners. Ofcourse ranked from 1-4. Also I will say who the 4 wild card teams are this year.

alright

As for the AFC North the winner will be the Steelers. Hands down, there is on reason they take this division. I don't think it will be easy, but the schedule they have isn't too hard offensively as it stands now. They did very well in the draft, and their 2nd/3rd yr players are progressing well. Timmons, is going to start this year. They are also looking at a healthy backfield this year, with two complimentary backs. The Bengals aren't that far out of it either.

Agreed on the Steelers and Bengals. But what about the Ravens? They did play in the AFC Championship game against the Steelers you know. They also knocked off the Titans in Nashville.

NFC North winner will undoubtedly be the Chicago Bears. Cutler, and Forte are going to destroy the NFC. The Bears at this point could be the 2nd best team in the NFC. Cutler has a strong arm, and the offense will be easy for him to adapt to. The Bears are now a constant threat in a weak NFC North. However the Packers aren't far behind either.

LMAO...undoubtedly. Who the hell is Cutler gonna throw to? The Packers aren't too far behind. Did you see the NFC North last year? The Vikings won the division. Jackson/Frerotte won us ten games and we have a significantly easier schedule. The Bears will get second. The Packers will get third.

The AFC East winner should be the Patriots, and I think with Brady they win the division. I wouldn't be shocked if they won 12 games this year. They are a playoff team this year with a healthy Tom Brady. This was an easy pick.

Should win the division...Not shocked if they won 12 games???...I wouldn't be shocked if they were back in the Super Bowl. Remember this team went 16-0 in the regular season before losing the Super Bowl and then Brady got injured. Well hes back and the Pats are ready to dominate the AFC and NFL again.

NFC East is by far the hardest division to pick , but I am going with the Eagles. They have the best defense in the division, and they also had a solid draft. Shady McCoy adds a ton this diverse offense, and so does Maclin. McNabb should be on fire this year offensivley. The Eagles are my pick as the number one team in the NFC.

This will be a year where they play their hearts out for their defensive coordinator. The Eagles are my pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

AFC West will won by the Chargers. Rivers has to prove this year that he is the man in charge. Rivers has to have another Pro Bowl year, and make better decisions at the right times. The defense made some huge mistakes all year, and I think that will change this year. They had a solid draft, and should be fine.

Second best team in AFC.

The NFC West is a bit of a tough one, and I think the Cards will take it, just because of the team they still have. I think they just have a better team than anyone else in the division. Not one of those teams left can match them at all. Most of those teams will picking for their franchise QB's in next yr's draft, Tebow, McCoy etc..

Easily the Cardinals...lol

AFC South is easily going to the Colts, and I think it will be close. Manning will do it again and keep the Colts a viable contender in the Playoff hunt. Manning could go as far as the AFC title game. The defense has to make a strong stand this year.

You just said easily going to the Colts then it will be close. You don't even make sense anymore. Any team in this division could take it they are all pretty much equal.

In the NFC South I think the Falcons take it hands down. They should get some heat from the Saints. Ryan is said to have made huge strides. If this true we could see something similar to a younger Carson Palmer type. Palmer was rigged with injuries his career, but if Ryan can stay healthy and play like Palmer he could be a Pro Bowler this year.

The leagues hardest schedule might prevent that.

As for the Wild card teams this year I'm going with the these four teams. From the AFC 5) Cincy Bengals & 6) Houston Texans. Yes they are both two teams that are a reach, but both teams made some huge strides in the offseason, and the draft. In the NFC I can see the 5)Giants, and the 6) The Packers. Rodgers should have another stellar year, and if the defense can play under a new 3-4 scheme they will be a team to worry about. Eli is a persistent player, but I think missing Shockey, Burress, and Toomer his game may come down a bit. This will be a huge year for him.

The Bengals,Texans,Bears,and Giants.

Christian. Come on man. You have to pull the wide receiver thing for the Bears? Cutler can make any receiver better. Matt Forte will help give Cutler time in the pocket, and can also be that extra receiver when coverage is tight down field and he can dump it off. Not to mention giving Cutler an actual running back to open up said passing game, unlike last year in Denver. The two tight ends, Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark can block and catch. Hester is still coming along, slowly but surely. Earl Bennett is familiar with Cutler from their time at Vandy, and will add to their depth. Plus a few rookies can surprise you. Kyle Orton is a decent QB, he was doing well until he got injured last year. He still led the team to 9 wins. Cutler, a better QB, with an actual running game and defense, I don't see how he can't translate to at least 2 or 3 more wins than last year. Besides the Bears have never had great wide outs.

Now I agree undoubtedly is an overstatement. It will be a close race in the division.

You have to remember that Frerotte played more than Jackson did. But there is no more Gus Frerotte this year. Sage Rosenfels will be a decent fill in. And John David Booty, well he hasn't played in the pros. Tavaris Jackson, should he claim the starting position which I think he will, needs to step the hell up. He hasn't done much that makes me call him a good QB. He has been competent, but not good. Of course they have Adrian Peterson, so they have the running game and a solid defense. QB situation is spotty as I said.

Schedule-wise, I wouldn't say the the Viking's is significantly easier. Both schedules are pretty similar except for 2 games on each side. The Bears will play Atlanta and Philadelphia, whereas the Vikings play Seattle and Carolina. Other than those two teams, the Bears and Vikings play the same teams. I don't see a significant difference between the two.

Im taking the Packers, Bears, and then Vikings. Ill start with the Vikings, The Brett Favre thing is going to take a toll on this team. The locker room is now split on who the quarterback should be and i think that 8-8 is their record this year.

2 to 3 more wins just because of Jay Cutler, dont see that one. Jay Cutler had a receiver last year, a farely good one named Brandon Marshall. Marshall is a top 10 receiver in the league the Bears best option right now is Devin Hester, a former cornerback turned to wide receiver. Forte is going to help but i dont think this is a 2 to 3 win more is gonna happen. Bears are 9-7 maybe 10-6 at best.

The Packers are the best team in this division. Their defense is good. They actually have receivers unlike the Bears. Jennings and Driver are 2 very good threats. Ryan Grant is going to have much better year as he is actually going to be healthy heading into the year. Aaron Rodgers is just as good as Jay Cutler maybe better. Aaron is going to be better then last year as he has a full year under his belt and thus the Packers go 11-5 and win the division.

You should use spell check.

Anyways, they won 9 games with an above average QB. Jay Cutler is a hell of a QB, even if he is as young as he is. Cutler and Marshall were a package, they worked well off of one another. If there is no Cutler, I highly doubt Marshall is as good as he is. Who does he have now? Kyle Orton? Orton is competent QB who can keep composed, but he doesn't have a great arm. That right there will take away the long, and I mean Cutler long, down field play. This isn't the point though.

With Cutler at the helm on offense, the offense themselves will be out there longer. He can make plays himself, and actually give the defense a rest, compared to the previous 5 years. The defense pretty much wins games in Chicago. The addition of Jay Cutler means this, he can score points, the defense can hold the opponents down = win. Also, I heard from a football analyst talking about Cutler in Chicago. His words were something to the effect of, "Jay Cutler is here for the 4th quarter. If the defense keeps the game close, and the Bears either have the lead or are down by 3 points or 7, that is why the Bears got Cutler. Those moments are his to shine."

They are pushing Hester to be number 1. Not the best option. I would say Earl Bennett is the better option at the receivers position. But again, you are talking wide receivers. Earl Bennett knows Cutler from their time at Vanderbilt. They have a good chemistry. Juaquin Iglesias can't step up if given time to play? I do recall he played at Oklahoma with the Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford.

You act like wide outs are the end all be all to a good quarterback. Hello, tight ends? And if memory serves correctly, Greg Olsen is more of a receiving TE than blocking. Desmond Clark can still catch and run through people as well. So for you to sit there and say the Bears don't have receivers, is a bit of a foolish statement. They don't have a proven Wide Receiver, which I think is what you mean to get at. But they have receivers who can catch, Tight Ends that can catch, and a Running Back who gives Cutler another chance to be better than in Denver. Who were his RBs in Denver? Last year he did it pretty much all himself. Forte can give Cutler the chance to spread the field, or dump it off. I'd say that is reason enough to say the Bears can be 2-3 games better.

I never said the Bears had a much harder schedule than Minnesota both teams actually have two very easy schedules. I just said that with a much harder schedule last year than we have this year we won ten games. So why can't we win 11 or 12 if Tarvaris just hands the ball off to AP like he should and make the neccessary throws when needed. He is a great athlete he just needs to be coached along better and I see steady improvements every season. But our window isn't getting any less narrow. Forte is a weapon and Hester is a playmaker but I wouldn't put all my eggs in the Earl Bennet basket. Sure he has chemistry with Cutler but that doesn't always equate skill. Olson is ok but I'd still be worried if Cutler is gonna have guys making plays for him. I'd take my defense over your defense at this point. Oh and haha to the guy saying Rodgers is better than Cutler. Rodgers can't play from behind. I don't know his record in the fourth quarter when behind but I know its something dreadful like 1-6.

I'm not trying to say Earl Bennett is the key to Jay Cutler having success in Chicago. I'm just saying that the Bears have competent receivers, not the break out ones like Berrian, or anything, but they can catch the ball, and make some plays. The tight ends are probably his most valuable weapons, as they are with every Chicago quarterback lol. Desmond Clark, while getting up there in age, can still block and catch the ball, and Olsen I would say is probably the best receiver the Bears have, which again, isn't saying much about their receiving corp. I just think that the Bears should be given more credit for getting Cutler, than Mr. Baller seems to be giving.

I'm thinking right now it will go down to the end of the season again with the Bears and Vikings, with that second to last game between each as probably the deciding factor. Packers may be involved, but I don't know. For now, I would agree with you on the Vikings defense being better, but if the Bears D actually steps up like I think it will, we may have a whole new team altogether. Tavaris needs to step up though. I realize that it is Adrian Peterson, but you can't give him the ball like 30 times a game, for 16 games, and truly expect him to perform 100% all season. But it is AP, so it wouldn't surprise me if that actually happened. But if Tavaris can make completions and give AP a break every so often, then I'll be a son of a gun.

Aaron Rodgers is just as good as Jay Cutler maybe better

In your Create Your MLB Playoffs thread, I was ignorant. But this, :lmao:, is me. Even Christian says haha. No way he is better than Cutler. Cutler literally led the Broncos to an 8-8 year last year. He basically had Brandon Marshall and that was it. No running back, a good one anyway, and a sad excuse for a defense.
