The Falcons must have been browsing the forum and found your post Nev. The Falcons looked like a legit contender today against the Niners. They ran the ball well and Ryan like usual was poised under center. I have the Falcons ranked 4th amongst NFC teams behind the Gmen, the Vikes, and the Saints. A good week for my predictions. Right now I have the Texans and Pats wrong. A good week in football I must say.

Yeah man. That game either showed how poorly coached/unprepared the 49ers were for that game, how effective a bye week can be, OR both.

The 49ers are an average offense as I've said, but the Falcons defense redeemed themselves and made them look awful. The Falcons exposed the 49ers defense and Michael Turner and Roddy White are looking way they should be (instead of me doubting them and calling them overrated).

Though all of this just doesn't make sense. The Falcons defense playing well & the 49ers defense playing awful just doesn't belong in the same sentence. The 49ers had an off night, and if they were to play the Falcons again, it would be much different. (Not to discredit the Falcons).

As for the Bengals, I really love the way they are playing. I had them as my premier surprise team before the season and it looks like I'm going to make some nice cash if they keep this up. In order for me to cash in, I also betted on the Ravens not making the playoffs at the same time, so we`ll see how everything works out.

Here are the surprise teams I had before the season to make playoffs:

Bengals
Packers
Texans/Jaguars
Bucs
Bills
Broncos
Seahawks

Teams to miss playoffs, that made it last year:

Ravens
Colts
Titans
Panthers
Falcons
Dolphins
Chargers

I'm already dead wrong on some predictions but hopefully I get at least 50% of it right. Its easy to make predictions a week before the game though, no sense in trying.

I agree with the Bengals completely. They are my 2nd or 3rd team behind the Vikings (a very distant 2nd or 3rd, with NO being the other). Going into this season I had that weird feeling the Bengals would shock some people. And when I went through each schedule to predict each team I had the Bengals going 12-4. I was shocked and really didn't see them doing it. Right now though, with the way they are playing I don't look so crazy. The line has improved its play, Carson is healthy, Ocho is back, the defense is good, and a big kudos to Cedric Benson for turning around his career.

Campbell is in his what 5th season? He has been given enough time. He is the definition of inconsistent and 100% mediocre at best! Sorry about your woes there but I would say yeah you need a new QB but more so new coaching.

I think JCamp is done as the Redskins starter, but I don't think this will be his only opportunity to start in the NFL. There are plenty of teams in the NFL that could use a new QB down the road. Buffalo (Edwards doesn't look like the answer), Oakland (Russell has looked terrible), Jacksonville (Garrard is middle of the road), Seattle (Hasselbeck is aging), Minnesota (Favre is in his 40's), Carolina (Jake Delhomme is declining), and St. Louis (Bulger nor Boller have it). Now I'm not saying all those teams are gonna go after a QB, I was just giving examples on teams that could be looking for an upgrade.

Do what JJ said in the pre-game. Have someone step up and put everyone on notice. Make them all fight for their jobs. The majority of the Redskins are overhyped and overpaid. Where's the rookies? Bring some of them in, somebody slap Zorn and tell him he's screwing up royally. There's alot to do before the Redskins can really gain some momentum. All this coming from a Giants fan..

I'm not going to push my luck with this, but Minnesota SO FAR is AWESOME this year! I loved the Vikings V. Packers game. It was the first time in a long time I actually sat down and watched a whole football game. I mainly wanted to see if Favre was going to be a show off through the whole game and mess up, but he surprised me. He played extremely well. I'm a huge Vikings fan so of course I was happy that Minnesota beat the crap out of the Packers. It was a good game too. I knew it would be a close scoring game.

I'm now excited for the rest of the season. Hopefully I can see Minnesota go and win the Super Bowl, unlike those Carolina Panthers....:P

Well damn...I was 6-8 on my picks this week...Hadn't lost more than 4 a week until now...

I like that parity is starting to rear it's head. The teams that started off shitty, are starting to come around (Miami, mostly), and the teams that started hot are starting to come back down to earth (Patriots, 49ers). I don't think it means Miami is making a run to the Super Bowl, or that the Pats and Niners aren't, but I like seeing "races" at the end.

Tough, tough loss for the Pats this week. I thought the game might be a blowout for the Pats after the first two quarters, but man did the Broncos come back in that second quarter. Kyle Orton must have ate his wheaties that morning, because he was better than I've ever seen him before. Those are the kinds of games the Patriots usually win though, and if Gostowski hadn't missed that field goal in the 3rd quarter, we would have won. Unfortunately it ended up going to overtime, which is just a joke in the NFL. The fate of the game shouldn't depend on a coin toss, both teams should be able to get one possession, both high school an college football do this and have for years, why the fuck does the NFL have to be any different? Just ridiculous. Big disappointment in that game, though Brady played well. Not that you'd know that, because ESPN makes it out like Brady couldn't complete a single pass and the Patriots were terrible. Funny how much they overreact to the Patriots losing, I mean is it just me or is it pretty god damn hilarious that the sports media begins panicking if the Patriots lose even one game? We can't be perfect every season guys, even the greatest teams lose a game here and there.

Dolphins beat the Jets, so that helped us out, now the Pats and Jets are tied for first place in the AFC East. With the Pats getting some injured guys back soon and starting to hit their stride, I still think we're going to win the AFC East. Our defense just needs to step the fuck up, they let the Broncos get two near-100 yard drives to score in the second half, that's simply unacceptable.

This week we've got the Titans...looking forward to that one.

Kyle Orton definitely did look good, X, but he always has. he doesn't have the top numbers to support it, but he knows how to win. He's 18-2 now as a starter. Think about that. Quite impressive.

He's never been behind a terrific offensive line, and has rarely had weapons to throw to, but he manages the game well, and knows how to put points on the board. Now that he has Marshall, Royal, Stokley, and Scheffler to throw to, I'd guess he starts putting up bigger numbers as the season goes on.

NSL knows this. I watched Orton's entire career in Chicago, obviously. He has never been a shit quarterback. His rookie year he was thrown into the offense when Grossman got injured, and the team went 11-5. I'm sure you will attribute the wins to the defense and special teams, which I don't doubt, pretty much gave the team the wins they got. But Orton was asked to manage the team, not to provide the offense in his first season. He handed the ball to Thomas Jones and passed when necessary.

Then he sat on the bench for the next two years behind Grossman and Griese. Last year, he had solid numbers before he got injured, and couldn't really get it back to how he was at the start. He himself didn't have the kinds of weapons that he has now in Denver. His best weapon in 2005 was I think Muhsin Muhammad or Desmond Clark, and then Orton went on the bench to play backup. Last year, he had Greg Olsen, Desmond Clark, an inexperienced Devin Hester, Marty Booker, Rashied Davis, and Matt Forte. Compare those to what he now has in Denver, aside from Forte and the tight ends, and he has considerably better weapons to throw to and help him out.

He is a winner and can lead an offense, or supposedly "manage" if need be. He is solid in the pocket, and has weapons. I hope he is able to gain good numbers in his career in Denver.

Did anyone expect Eli to have the season he's having? He's currently tied for 2nd in TDs, 2nd in Passer Rtg, leads the league in plays over 20 yards, and is tied for 2nd in plays over 40. His 5/1 TD/INT ratio is tied for 3rd in the league with Garrard, behind only Rodgers and Orton.

I'm not ready to say he's among the greats right now, but as a Giants fan, I'm definitely loving the production we're getting out of him. He has none of the weapons that these other guys have (yet), but still goes out there and performs.

On a semi-side note. I can't wait for Pro Bowl voting to open up...

Yes. Why? Because everything that is built around him. When teams can run effectively like the Giants it opens up the passing game. I'm not saying Eli sucks. Actually I think he is quite good. I've been a supporter of his for a few years now and I've really seen him grow.

Anyways, Manning has a good team around him. He is well protected, team can run, and he has a lot of solid receivers around him. He has Smith, Manningham, Boss, Hixon and Nicks even though one of them is banged up. They have a ferocious defense and a good coaching staff. He has weapons and he utilizes them to the best of his ability....

Coming into this season, did anyone that's not a Giants fan really see them being effective? Except for Smith, the rest have worked like our running game. One may not have a big game every week, but we go to the hot hand. Smith only had 3 catches last week, but we didn't need him to put up 10 catches and 100 yards. Nicks has become quite the playmaker, and Manningham continues to find himself open. Once Hixon is back at 100%, and Boss is 100%, we'll have a solid group to throw to. Add in Moss and Hagan who have been getting playing time, and we have about 50 combinations we could put on the field at any time :lmao:

Yes, I knew Smith was going to be effective, and I knew Manningham was going to be effective and I knew Nicks had the potential to be effective. Why? Because of their running game and excellent pass protection. When you can block longer than three seconds it makes it rough on the defense, receivers can then get open and it makes it easier on a QB. Like I said, Manning is good but he benefits from having a tremendous offense around him. He improves every year, but so do the people around him.

I knew that Smith would improve, and figured that Nicks would be big over time, but I didn't see it all happening at once. I certainly didn't see Manningham breaking out either. He was on the practice squad a lot last year, but apparently, it was time well spent. If we can keep our offense together after this season, I'd be amazed at what we can do next year.

As for our defense, it can still get better. Our best CB hasn't played yet this season, and we don't yet have Canty in the DL rotation. If Kehl is healthy, he'll be a plus on defense, possibly starting place of Boley, who just had surgery, and he can be a force on special teams.

I know that the Rams have been on the market for a while, but lately there's been a ton of controversy surrounding the new group trying to be the team. Why? Rush Limbaugh. The religious right blowhard is throwing his name in to buy the team, and has gone on record more than a few times in the past on his views on slavery and minorities in general.

Should he be allowed to be in the group to by the team? Would you let him buy them? I'm sure he has a base that he can promote the league to, but how would he be a good face for the organization?

Remember...He's not the only person buying them. He's part of a group of rich people trying to buy the team, and since he's clearly the most famous, he's the face of the group, and would be the name attached to the publicity of the team.

I'm surprised no one has made this yet...

After looking at all the games from this past week, my vote is split between 2 people. Cedric Benson and Chad Henne were both huge parts of leading their teams to wins.

Benson accomplished something that hasn't been done in over 2 seasons time against the Ravens, in rushing for 100+ yards. Without him getting the ground game going, Baltimore would have run away with that game, and that final drive would have made little difference in the outcome.

Chad Henne has stepped in as Pennington's back-up, and reeled off 2 straight wins, looking very good in both. the Jets were his biggest test, and he came through completing 20 of 26 passes, and keeping the flow of the offense going, even with all the crazy packages they were putting together on the field.

I'm really hoping I do better than 6-8 this week...That stung a bit...

Houston Texans @ Cincinnati Bengals - The Bengals have shown to be resilient, with each of their wins being close calls, and even their loss coming down to the final play. The Texans have been a series of ups and downs, but could pull off the upset of the weekend if the Bengals can't find a way to slow down Schaub-Johnson. Bengals 23-21

Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers - Having Culpepper line up under center has vastly improved the Lions' offense, but the loss of Johnson might be too much for them to overcome. The Packers defense is hungry after the loss to Minnesota, and I don't see where the Lions can find an answer to that. Packers 28-10

St. Louis Rams @ Jacksonville Jaguars - The Jaguars showed last week that they are succeptable to the big play, but...Aw, hell. Does anyone really think the Rams have big play ability in them? Garrard has quietly put up big numbers, and this should be an easy rebound from that horrible loss last week. Jaguars 37-7

Baltimore Ravens @ Minnesota Vikings - looking at the defenses, you would never guess that this game could be a shoot-out, but it probably will be. Flacco has the Ravens offense in high gear, and Favre feasts on big name defenses for a reason I have yet to discover. This will be full of big plays, and lots of excitement, but the Ravens aren't going to turn this downward spiral around if they keep shooting themselves in the foot. Vikings 34-28

New York Giants @ New Orleans Saints - Game of the week, anyone? If I told you this comes down to the Saints ability to run the ball, would you believe me? The Giants have the #1 defense, primarily because no one has had a chance to run against them. They've all been over early. But, in the end, Thomas/Bush are no Barber/Jones/Choice, so I don't see what they can bring that the G-Men can't stop. Also, the Saints narrowly beat Sanchez because they were able to get after him. Do you think the Giants will let them get near Eli? Great close game...Possible playoff preview. Giants 23-22

Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers - Woohoo! The Browns won! Now they get to face the Steelers. Their offense has shown no signs of being able to move the ball consistently, and I'd be amazed if they get 5 first downs here. Look for Big Ben to be resting early, and Moore and Mendenhall running out the second half. Steelers 42-3

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Will must be so happy his Panthers showed some signs of life last week. Too bad it was against the Redskins. Neither team here has been very impressive at all, and this will come down to who makes less mistakes. With the Panthers lack of tackling, I expect one of the Bucs RBs to have a big game. Buccaneers 16-14

Kansas City Chiefs @ Washington Redskins - Has anyone noticed the pattern here? KC has played the NFC East 3 times so far, and has given up big games to at least 1 WR each time. Santana Moss must be licking his chops here, and the Redskins should look to continue their streak of playing close games with incredibly shitty teams. Redskins 28-27

Philadelphia Eagles @ Oakland Raiders - This...Could be ugly. The Raiders are statistically the worst team in football, and who's to argue that? I'm thinking we get Vick running a few series here, and possibly big games across the board for the Eagles. Eagles 37-6

Arizona Cardinals @ Seattle Seahawks - Who knew the Seahawks would be this good? Somehow the Cards have managed to have the best rush defense, and the worst pass defense, and that just happens to play into the 'Hawks strength. Warner has to come through big here, and that could happen. Seahawks 26-16

Tennessee Titans @ New England Patriots - The Patriots suffered a crushing loss last week against the Broncos, and luckily get a nice reprieve here. The Titans haven't been able to do much right, and are making us all look like fools for picking them as contenders. Patriots 31-13

Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets - Until the Bills can prove that they're better than the Browns, i can't pick them. They seriously lost to a QB who went for 2/17? Wow. Sanchez however, bounced back from the loss, and the addition of Edwards seems like a big help in the passing game. Look for them to open up the ground game this week. Jets 27-0

Chicago Bears @ Atlanta Falcons - The Bears have been impressive, but let's not skip over what the Falcons did last week. They lit up a pretty good defense, and shouldn't have too many problems here. If Cutler can stay on point with his passes, this could be a high scoring game. Falcons 35-31

Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers - The Broncos keep finding ways to win, and Orton is a big reason why. The Chargers aren't on pace to rush for 900 yards this season, and don't have a back with 100+ yards total yet. They have to rely on their passing game, and I don't think that will work against a solid D. Add in the Broncos new "Wild Horses" offense, and you have the recipe for disaster. Broncos 29-9

Manningham continues to find himself open. Once Hixon is back at 100%, and Boss is 100%, we'll have a solid group to throw to. Add in Moss and Hagan who have been getting playing time, and we have about 50 combinations we could put on the field at any time

Really goes to show how great our front office is.

I'm not going to brag about the Giants-Raiders game seeing how its the Raiders, but I have to agree, Eli has improved. He's known for being an erratic;shit thrower, but in that game he threw some beautiful balls. His TD pass to Manningham was the best TD pass I've ever seen him throw outside of the red zone. Ever. (As insignficant as that pass was). Once the weather gets worse, I expect him to return to playing average. He doesn't have a Jay Cutler arm unfortunately.

But Brandon freaking Jacobs is slowly downing himself into a joke. He's going through some ******ed 'phase' in his running. Trying to run with more patience, trying to evade tackles, and trying to find a hole that's not there. Really ridiculous. BJ isn't Ronnie Brown, he's Brandon Jacobs. You're supposed to use your size and strength in running. It, by far, overshadows making the wrong cuts. Hopefully this entire thing fades away with Brandon.

The game against the New Orleans Saints will be tough. The Saints will expose the holes in our run defense just like Dallas did. Though, I am confident our CB Webster (Whom doesn't get enough praise in NY for what he does compared to the overrated Revis) can shut down Marques Colston and Brees will not have a field day. The Saints struggled offensively against the Bills and Jets so I do not expect a shootout on their part. As for the Giants, we will expose that overrated secondary for what it is and Eli should have an above average day. The BYE week really hurts, though. The game will be decided on turnovers as I expect both teams to control the clock.

Also, great to see the success of the Miami offensive line coach. He was the assistant OL coach here in New York and was going to be the successor, but Miami beat us a season early it seems. Always great to see the Jets lose. While the Dolphins were running wild against that overrated D-line, all Jets fans could think about was Just End The Season. (Always wanted to use that.)

Everyone needs to calm down about the Giants. My friends are all Giants fans, and they are pumped. The Giants are good, but the last 3 weeks, they played KC, Tampa, And Raiders. I could put up good numbers against those teams. They will be tested the week against NO. The Jets were great til they played the Saint's. We shall see.

The Pats picked up Seau. He won't play much, but his leadership is necessary for that young defense.

I have decided to do pickem for this week for the first time, as each week on yahoo I have gone 11-5 to 13-3, so I have decided to put them on here for you:

Houston Texans @ Cincinnati Bengals - My brain says Cincinnati but my heart says Houston. I dont know if the Cardiac Cats can win another close one, and you never know what Houston will give you. I will take the upset HOUSTON WINS 30-27

Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers - This game will be over quickly as the Packers explosive offense is going to dominate the awful Lions. PACKERS WIN 38-17

St. Louis Rams @ Jacksonville Jaguars - I think Jacksonville is going to dominate as well after that awful showing against Seattle and the Rams are the worst team in the league. JAGUARS WIN 42-3

Baltimore Ravens @ Minnesota Vikings - Another tossup but Old Man Favre will deliver once again and the Ravens D is reeling after that tough loss to Cincy and will go on a 3 game skid. MINNESOTA WINS 31-27

New York Giants @ New Orleans Saints - At home I am taking New Orleans. This will be a great game but I think that the Saints offense is greater then the Giants Defense. Plus the Saints D is a lot better then people thought. SAINTS WIN 31-24

Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers - Another squash here as the Steelers get Polamalu back and Derek Anderson is going to have trouble completing even 2 passes against that D. STEELERS WIN 35-0

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Panthers are going to get on a little roll now, as the Bucs are arguably as bad as the Rams, but at least they put up points. PANTHERS WIN 23-10

Kansas City Chiefs @ Washington Redskins - Wow, what another awful matchup. I apologize for anybody forced to watch this. I think that this is the end of Zorn, and the Chiefs get their first win. CHIEFS WIN 13-10

Philadelphia Eagles @ Oakland Raiders- Another squash. Oakland sucks from their qb to their running to the defense to the coaches. Philly continues to roll. EAGLES WIN 41-7

Arizona Cardinals @ Seattle Seahawks - Big division matchup here, and Arizona needs to have balance on offense to have a chance. Seattle looked great against Jacksonville but the Cards win in a close one. CARDINALS WIN 24-20

Tennessee Titans @ New England Patriots - Poor Vince Young, it is time to start and Fisher refuses to put him in. Maybe after this loss to The Brady Bunch will change his mind.PATRIOTS WIN 34-10

Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets - Jets going to come out furious this week after losing to Miami. Poor T.O. he isnt going to get a catch in this one as Edwards will never have time to throw to him. JETS WIN 24-3

Chicago Bears @ Atlanta Falcons - A great game here, but Atlanta's offense is too strong and I think without Urlacher in the middle is finally going to hurt this good Bears defense. Atlanta pulls it out in the end. FALCONS WIN 31-23

Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers - Monday Night Football and if the Broncos win they will pull away with the division. The Chargers are going to need to play a full 60 minutes to beat this team, but I dont think they will. McDaniels will out coach Norv Turner. BRONCOS WIN 24-17

Thats my picks for rest of the week.

NSL care for a little friendly competition for the rest of the way?

The Jets almost beat the Saints, and that was because they found a way to stop turning the ball over, and how to stop the line from pressuring Sanchez. The Giants don't turn the ball over, and the OL won't let anyone get close to Eli. He'll have time to throw, and with the number of check-down options he's had, he'll be fine. The ground game will also be good. The Saints have possibly the worst LBs in the league, and they haven't been tested because they're usually running away with the win. This is a big test for both teams.

The Jets almost beat the Saints

Did you watch the game?

The Jets were not in that game at all. They had little to no offense in that game whatsoever, and were always behind in the game. The Jets defense made them look a little closer but they never had a chance against the Saints.

I was watching, and the Saints were never running away with it. It was close, and the Jets were able to keep themselves in it. They never had the lead, but being with a possession of winning is pretty good. The reason the Saints kept control was because of the pressure, and because the Jets kept making mistakes. The Giants don't make those mistakes, and you won't consistently pressure Eli. The Giants will find a way to test the LBs, and that's trouble for the Saints.
