Next First Time WWE Champ?

On Raw, I'll have to go with Evan Bourne. Let me explain.

Since his debut, he quickly brought back the E in WWE. Everything about the guy is exciting. I'm not sure about his mic skills, but that really doesn't matter when you can kick ass and move fast like he does.

He's definitely the next Rey Mysterio. I'd love to see the gold around his waste. Picture this:
It's survivor series. John Cena Vs. Evan Bourne (assuming Cena is still champ, probably will be.) Two faces with completely different styles, going at it. Imagine the crowd's reaction if Bourne hit the shooting star press on Cena and pins him. The place would go NUTS. It would be a more unpredictable feat as opposed to unbelieveable.

I've got to be honest. I don't think we will see a first time champion for quite a while. The champion of either brand has to be someone that will inspire butts in the seats, pay per view buys, and merchandise sales. Let's look at the last two "virgins," if you will.

Jeff Hardy was the most recent one. Jeff won it after being over for years with the crowd, and showing he could "keep his nose clean." (Yeah, I'm not going there. Don't want to anger the Jeff fans this early in my run.)

C.M. Punk was the next most recent one. I think his run to the top all started at Survivor Series 2006, when Vince and company saw how loudly the Philly crowd cheered for Punk while in the ring with DX and the Hardys, blowing both of their pops away. They gave him "Money in the Bank," and - bam! - new world champ.

Have you seen a reaction like that for any one of the people mentioned in this thread, much less anyone who hasn't been mentioned?

Morrison - Great athlete, good talker, good but not great reaction. Probably the most likely, but I don't see it for a year or so.

Matt Hardy - Maybe, MAYBE a transitional champion who holds the belt for a week or two. I like Matt, and have always liked him better than Jeff, but seems most of his reaction comes from being Jeff's brother.

Swagger - Okay, the kid has skills in the ring, and the type of back story the E loves. His reaction is marginal, and comes more from who he's facing. And listen, I'm bald and 30 pounds overweight, we all got problems, but the guy has a lisp. Not making fun, just stating a fact. Hard to imagine a world champ with a lisp.

MVP - I like his work. A lot. And he's pretty over. Honestly, though, I think Vince is at least a little racist (see Saba Simba, the build to Booker T - Triple H) and I'm not sure he would go there.

Benjamin - Probably the best athlete in the WWE. He has NO mic skills though. That's why he failed to get a good push after beating Trips in his Raw debut years ago. I sure wish they still used managers. With a mouthpiece, the sky would be the limit for Shelton. And again, the whole Vince "black guy" thing. But his mic work or lack thereof is a credible reason.

Christian - I am a peep, I admit it. I think Christian is awesome. That being said, while he is ECW champ, he is still going to have to wait for a while because of that little trip to TNA.

Rhodes - I like Cody too, but he will have to be developed as a personality, not just a lackey before he will even be considered. He's building his legacy (pun totally intended) by having good matches with DX and even coming out on the winning end tonight. But his personality needs to be developed a lot before being given serious consideration.

DiBiase - He looks like a star. He will be a champion, but not for a while. While we are on him, if they are going to turn him face before the release of "The Marine 46," or whatever it is, they better start now. Make it a slow build, kinda like when Batista left Evolution. (The first and last time Big Dave was interesting, by the way.) Can I mention I don't think they have to turn him for the movie release, seeing as how no matter who (Stone Cold, Cena) is in a WWE flick, it does no business. I'd like to see them wait for a face turn, and again, build SLOWLY.

Bourne - He suffers from what I will call, "The Hornswoggle Effect." Anyone ever associated with the little fella in any way will never win a world title. Never.

I really have no answer for this question, just reasons why this will not happen soon for any of these guys. Just to be different, I'm gonna go with...

William Regal. An ECW championship run, a draft move to Raw or SD with henchmen in tow, and an attack on the show's babyface champion could lead to a short run. The guy's got skills in the ring and can be one of the most hated guys on the roster if used right. It would be one of those "lifetime achievement awards" before he rides into the back to work as a producer. And Triple H loves the guy. If you didn't know, Triple H has a lot of stroke. Hell, he'd probably be booked to beat Regal if this went down.

WWE title only? On the raw main event scene one John Cena currently holds the belt that means the title holder until at least WrestleMania will be Superman Jnr.

No complaints here.

After that point I could see really only MVP as a superstar with enough experience to take the strap. Swagger is too young, Kofi gets no mic time and Miz proved he wasn't quite there yet. Maybe Mark Henry if they finally decide to do something with him.

If you mean world title in general - John Morrison, he is by far the closest to winning a world title in my opinion (and everyone else's apparently). Outside of JoMo I would have to go for Matt Hardy as he is the only ready made main eventer on Smackdown, although the WWE have made it very clear that he will wallow in the upper midcard for many years to come.

If you're talking WWE title only, and with the current rosters (since we may not have a new first time champ until after the next draft), then on Raw the only ones that haven't been a former WWE champion and have ANY chance at getting it, in my opinion, are:

Jack Swagger - We know he'll get it at some point. I don't think he's ready yet, but if they were to just hotshot it on someone new, it would most likely be him.

Mark Henry - Would it suck? Yes. But hey, you never know. Plus, I've always kind of liked Mark Henry. I wouldn't mind him having the title even if it were for a week, just to reward him for his services over the years. He might not be the most exciting superstar, but he's a great guy outside the ring from what I've seen, and I guess I'm a sucker for that.

The Miz - Eventually he'll get a world title, and hopefully it'll been sooner than later, although despite how I love the Miz and want to see him as a top guy some day, he's not ready right now. Still, that would be one hell of a promo wouldn't it?

Festus - Ok just kidding lol.

If you're talking about the WHC as well, or allowing for the other rosters to somehow get a shot...

Christian - He can't stay on ECW forever, and he'll be a main event wrestler on the other shows, even if he doesn't necessarily win the top title. But, he's never won it before and he has a shot.

John Morrison - Its more of a question of which title will he win first, the WHC or WWE title, and when he'll do it, as opposed to if he will. I'd love to see him win the Royal Rumble and defeat Chris Jericho for the WHC in the main event at WrestleMania XXVI if they can't get Edge vs Jericho. If not that, I'd love to see him win the Money in the Bank and cash it in to win the WWE title, which is the one I'd prefer him to have as that one carries so much more prestige and I think John is working his way towards deserving that.

All the people named are good, in what they do. Allot of people are saying The Miz. Right now, keep him mid-card. He has the potential to be one of the top guys soon enough.

Now say what you will on this one...but Santino would be a freakin great WWE Champ. He wins it on a fluke, and loses it the next night, or week. I for one would just love to see his comic face when he realizes he won.

Rhodes or Dibease would be great too. I think they are the future of RAW. But I think that Rhodes will be there first. Just because how often do we here Ted Jr talk? Rhodes has the ring knowledge from both Dusty and Dustin..aka Goldust. Plus, the match with Cena a couple weeks ago showed that he can carry himself with the big boys.

MVP...my favorite budlight can. (For those who remember when he first came to SD thats what JBL called him) He has GREAT mic skills, GREAT ring skills and he can draw heat or cheers like the best of them. I think he will be champ within a year of this post.

I assume we're talking on Raw, in which case there is pretty much nobody I could see winning the title in the near future. I think it is possible that we won't see it till after a draft, in which case it could be anyone, but if I had to pick somebody on the Raw roster right now, I'd go with MVP. Swagger will win the MITB, but I can see MVP having a short reign before that is cashed in, dependin on who retires at WM and where everyone goes after the draft. Even that is clutching at straws though, I think we have a long wait in store before we see anyone else that's been named even getting close.
