I've got to be honest. I don't think we will see a first time champion for quite a while. The champion of either brand has to be someone that will inspire butts in the seats, pay per view buys, and merchandise sales. Let's look at the last two "virgins," if you will.
Jeff Hardy was the most recent one. Jeff won it after being over for years with the crowd, and showing he could "keep his nose clean." (Yeah, I'm not going there. Don't want to anger the Jeff fans this early in my run.)
C.M. Punk was the next most recent one. I think his run to the top all started at Survivor Series 2006, when Vince and company saw how loudly the Philly crowd cheered for Punk while in the ring with DX and the Hardys, blowing both of their pops away. They gave him "Money in the Bank," and - bam! - new world champ.
Have you seen a reaction like that for any one of the people mentioned in this thread, much less anyone who hasn't been mentioned?
Morrison - Great athlete, good talker, good but not great reaction. Probably the most likely, but I don't see it for a year or so.
Matt Hardy - Maybe, MAYBE a transitional champion who holds the belt for a week or two. I like Matt, and have always liked him better than Jeff, but seems most of his reaction comes from being Jeff's brother.
Swagger - Okay, the kid has skills in the ring, and the type of back story the E loves. His reaction is marginal, and comes more from who he's facing. And listen, I'm bald and 30 pounds overweight, we all got problems, but the guy has a lisp. Not making fun, just stating a fact. Hard to imagine a world champ with a lisp.
MVP - I like his work. A lot. And he's pretty over. Honestly, though, I think Vince is at least a little racist (see Saba Simba, the build to Booker T - Triple H) and I'm not sure he would go there.
Benjamin - Probably the best athlete in the WWE. He has NO mic skills though. That's why he failed to get a good push after beating Trips in his Raw debut years ago. I sure wish they still used managers. With a mouthpiece, the sky would be the limit for Shelton. And again, the whole Vince "black guy" thing. But his mic work or lack thereof is a credible reason.
Christian - I am a peep, I admit it. I think Christian is awesome. That being said, while he is ECW champ, he is still going to have to wait for a while because of that little trip to TNA.
Rhodes - I like Cody too, but he will have to be developed as a personality, not just a lackey before he will even be considered. He's building his legacy (pun totally intended) by having good matches with DX and even coming out on the winning end tonight. But his personality needs to be developed a lot before being given serious consideration.
DiBiase - He looks like a star. He will be a champion, but not for a while. While we are on him, if they are going to turn him face before the release of "The Marine 46," or whatever it is, they better start now. Make it a slow build, kinda like when Batista left Evolution. (The first and last time Big Dave was interesting, by the way.) Can I mention I don't think they have to turn him for the movie release, seeing as how no matter who (Stone Cold, Cena) is in a WWE flick, it does no business. I'd like to see them wait for a face turn, and again, build SLOWLY.
Bourne - He suffers from what I will call, "The Hornswoggle Effect." Anyone ever associated with the little fella in any way will never win a world title. Never.
I really have no answer for this question, just reasons why this will not happen soon for any of these guys. Just to be different, I'm gonna go with...
William Regal. An ECW championship run, a draft move to Raw or SD with henchmen in tow, and an attack on the show's babyface champion could lead to a short run. The guy's got skills in the ring and can be one of the most hated guys on the roster if used right. It would be one of those "lifetime achievement awards" before he rides into the back to work as a producer. And Triple H loves the guy. If you didn't know, Triple H has a lot of stroke. Hell, he'd probably be booked to beat Regal if this went down.
