Maybe, but Oregon is phenomenal. And the Pac 10 is still arguably the second best conference this year.
I'll put it third behind the Big 12 and SEC.
It's a tough call. I think the Pac 12 and the Big 12 are pretty equal, with Oregon being the best team of either conference.
If LSU beats Alabama, things are going to get NUTS.
Yeah, so the Big 10 has 9 solid teams and so does the Pac 12. How does that prove your point?I don't know about that. I just look at each conference from top to bottom and other than Kansas, the Big 12 has nine solid teams. The Pac 12 has Colorado, Washington State, and Utah.
I wonder how the BCS standings are going to look if LSU beats Alabama. I'm thinking it'll go Kansas State, Oregon, LSU, and then Notre Dame. I just hope Alabama isn't put ahead of Oregon or Notre Dame.
If 1 loss LSU goes ahead of Notre Dame, despite Notre Dame having one of the toughest strength of schedule this year (10th going into tonight) while be undefeated, that would be completely wrong.
It just seems guaranteed that LSU is going to be put above either Notre Dame or Oregon if they win. I would not even be surprised if they put LSU above both of them. If you're dreaming of an non-SEC BCS championship game, the nightmare in your dream might be Georgia. If Georgia wins the SEC, would they put them ahead of two unbeaten teams if the situation arises?
No idea, but if a 1 loss SEC team gets in ahead of an undefeated power conference team or a Notre Dame team with one of the toughest schedules in the country, I'd love to see how the BCS rationalizes that. That would just be a joke.
That game was unreal. Johnny Manziel is simply remarkable.
Now it's time for the Irish to do their job...
That they did.Now it's time for the Irish to do their job...
And I'd say you're smoking something if you think giving up 51 points is a sign of a good team. Win or lose, you don't give up 51 points.I'm not sure I'd say Oregon's overrated. These guys score damn near a point a minute and many times are resting their starters by half. If anything, I'd say ND is worse. Two OT wins plus two more by fgs to some pretty poor teams (Pitt and Purdue are garbage). Their D is good, but they've been skating by with some luck right now. Oregon's just been obliterating everyone.
Yes, but that's misleading. When you score as fast and as often as Oregon does, you give your opponents plenty of opportunities to score. Additionally, when you score so fast, your defense doesn't have as much time to rest and then they are tired on the next drive.Funny thing about Oregon is their D isn't all that great either. For all the points they put up on USC they still allowed 51 themselves.
I've seen Oregon played 3 or 4 times this year. They are not overrated. They are probably the fastest offense in college football. The speed they have at their skill positions is just incredible.I think Oregon's extremely overrated.
It's not a gimmick offense. It's a "we're better than you offense". There's no gimmick to it. They don't use a plethora of trick plays. They don't do a lot of misdirection. They just line up and outrun you. And their quarterback being a dual threat makes them so much harder to defend.Any good defense should be able to stop that gimmick offense.
Different years, different quarterbacks and different teams.LSU did it last year and Auburn did it the year before and Boise State the year before that.
This is true. And yet, besides the USC game, Oregon has given up 30 points only once this year, and that was the first game of the year. The defenses in the Pac-12 simply suck
The only team I see good enough to defeat Oregon in a non-fluke victory is Alabama. And they just got beat by a team with an offense that isn't as good or as polished as Oregon's.and Oregon was fortunate not to face a top tier non-conference team this year.
So when Auburn gave up 43 points (just one TD and a 2 pt conversion away) to Arkansas in 2010, they weren't a good team? They were the national champions, playing in the SEC, but just not a good team? And I'd say you're smoking something if you think giving up 51 points is a sign of a good team. Win or lose, you don't give up 51 points.
While I will point out it depends on which measure you look at, I completely agree Notre Dame's strength of schedule is much higher.ND has had a MUCH tougher schedule then Oregon thusfar. Arkansas State, Fresno State, Tennessee Tech, #22 Arizona, Washington St, #23 Washington, Arizona St, Colorado, #17 USC. 3 ranked opponents (22, 23, 17). And Tennessee Tech is a 3-7 FCS team. How can you even count that as a non-exhibition game is beyond me.
Notre Dame has played Navy, Purdue, #10 Michigan St, #18 Michigan, Miami, #17 Stanford, BYU, #8 Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, BC. 4 ranked opponents (2 in the top 10).
Agree completely. And I hate how style points have suddenly become a factor. I hate how the important measure of a good team changes every year. Sometimes it's strength of schedule, sometimes it's who you've lost to, and now this year it's style.By the end of the year, and undefeated Oregon may have a better schedule then an unbeaten ND (debatable since Oregon's best win would be against Stanford or USC, both of whom USC would have beaten as well), but as of now ND has played a MUCH tougher schedule.
That kid is fun to watch.Oh, and Oregons QB just got hurt. Hopefully it isn't serious. But if it is, that's a massive blow, and going undefeated seems even less likely.
