OK. Is it a FACT that IF you were at a certain PLACE at a CERTAIN time there are things that you would have EXPERIENCED that would not show up in a book or even in pictures or video? Have you ever heard of the saying "You had to be there" when someone was telling a story about and event?

When it comes to historical significance this stance only makes sense if the narrative matches the historical text. I met a man at the VA hospital a few months ago who was a fan of Gorgeous George and apparently had known him personally. His account was consistent: George had died in relative poverty and a shell of his former self. According to the man, George had become an ordained minister in the final years of his life. That's not a tidbit you can find in the history books. I entertained him because his account was historically consistent to what I have read about the man. Those that write about history cite multiple sources. First hand accounts are only one subjective source.

Sorry coming in in the middle of this, but are you saying that writer's who write about history are wrong or may be wrong simply because they weren't there. I mean there aren't many people alive who for example were around when the Underground Railroad was in operation, but we know through diary's and stories passed in from one generation to the next that it was in fact a way for slaves to get from the US to Canada.

Just because someone wasn't at an event, or alive during an event shouldn't stop them from talking about it, writing about it or having an opinion on it. If it does, then all history books would be wrong, who knows some of them might be a little mistaken in some ways, but we have to take it as fact.

The few that I saw were him going on a rant about some Youtube video he had just watched. It was something that happened years ago and really wasn't relevant anything current. Well that and his hate for Bret Hart, and Donald Trump's name was mentioned a lot.
