More troubled waters ahead for Hulk Hogan.

Navi

With the safety off!!
According to WrestlingInc. the National Enquirer has a new article out about more possible trouble for disgraced wrestler Hulk Hogan.

The Enquirer is stating that during a July 2nd court hearing it was revealed that Hogan apparently made contradictory statements under oath in a sworn deposition and during talks with the FBI, over the lawsuit with the Gawker.

If they prove that he did one of either of those things, he could be charged with either perjury or obstruction of justice. Both which could carry jail time. This could also get the $100 million dollar lawsuit against the Gawker thrown out of court.

The question here is, was it really worth all this trouble to begin with? It seems like he thought he was teflon and I'm sure he didn't expect any of this to come out of it.

Hogan had a very comfortable life, a job for life with the WWE, and a beautiful wife to come to every night. Not only that the respect and admiration of millions of wrestling fans. As it stands now, he's lost his career, whatever credibility he has left is gone, and he could lose his freedom.

I ask again. Was it really worth it?

Perjury is a major crime in England. A person convicted with prejury can end up in jail for 10 to 22 years and the bail will be available depends on the level of the case and the statement's outcome. But I don't know about how long he'll be sentenced or he'll get away with just paying a huge Fine for it. Certainly this isn't a good month for Hogan.

I can honestly say that I didn't expect that any of the Hulk Hogan scandals could lead to these circumstances, where Hogan's own freedom is being threatened. Seeing Hogan having to go to jail would definitely be a big deal (it depends on how long he would have to serve) now that this court hearing from last month happened. Amd let me just say for the record, there's no chance of Hogan ever recovering from this

National Enquirer < Given that being the source how valid do we think this really is?

Should it actually be true I'm sure he'll find his way to getting the minimum punishment.

Does he still maintain he didn't know he was being tapped with Bubba's wife?
And as far as the other stuff goes, he was making statements in a private moment wasn't he? Did he know he was being videotaped then? If not then what are you asking if it was worth it? Sexing up Bubba's wife in the first place? If that's the question then the answer is no.

I see what you mean with the National Enquirer being involved, and I had my suspicions raised too. But they are the ones who broke the story about the racist remarks he raised, and looks what's happened to Hogan with that.

Now this has come out in a court of law, with the lawyers for the Gawker alleging that he either committed perjury or in the case of the FBI obstructed justice. I don't see him doing jail time for it, but they are both punishable by law.

Remember Martha Stewart. She did jail time, not for insider trading, but because she lied about it and got caught. If they want to make an example out of Hogan they will.

Let's all us legal beagles wait until more actually comes out about this, before jumping to conclusions, sound good? I mean I appreciate all the time people are taking to make "dropping the soap jokes" and all...but in all honesty, this isn't on the Martha Stewart or say MLB steroid scandal level. Fucking idiotic IWC we are....most of the time.

Now is the time for Hulk Hogan to buddy up with Robocop. Do you remember the time Robocop busted Sting out of his jail cell by bending the steel bars ? Seriously though...how much more can Hulkamania take a hit now ? I commented in the other thread about how much of a childish , dumb idiot Hogan can be at times...well here we go again dummy ! The guy needs a good Jimmy Hart in real life to manage adult things for him while he goes about his business. What a needless mistake , now he'll suffer for it with jail time. I bet he'll think twice about ranted about anything in a private setting now, in ten years it could bite him in the ass.

As others have pointed out, however, the National Enquirer doesn't exactly have a reputation for journalistic excellence. The National Enquirer is and has been king of the tabloids for decades here in the United States and is viewed is sort of viewed to journalism what professional wrestling is compared to professional sports: it can be entertaining and interesting but is generally not taken seriously. At the same time, however, wasn't it the Enquirer that broke the story concerning the tapes of Hogan's racially charged comments and it turned out to be correct. So in this particular case, even though the source is the National Enquirer, I don't think the claim can simply be automatically dismissed as nonsense; it doesn't mean that it isn't, we'll ultimately have to wait and see, but the NE was accurate when this story first broke out so they do have some degree of credibility with the Hogan situation.

Perjury is sometimes viewed as sort of a slap on the wrist here in the United States and part of the reason for that impression is because so many people get such small sentences for it. That isn't always the case of course, but lying in court under oath happens every day of the week and even when someone's caught doing it and it can be proven, you rarely hear about it being treated like a big priority. IF Hogan did lie under oath and it can be proven, a judge could decide to throw the book at Hogan as a means of making an example out of him; I mean, let's be honest, we all have heard of numerous times in which celebrities have had brushes with the law and have gotten off with nearly nothing done to them due to their fame and financial resources whereas average people won't get off so lucky. If anything does come of this, that's what I think will happen; Hogan will have his expensive legal team come up with some sort of plea bargain in which Hogan pays a hefty fine, maybe has some sort of probation and avoids jail time altogether.

Yea I pretty much agree with everything you said, especially this. I doubt even if it's proven he lied he will do any jail time, but I'm sure his lawsuit with the Gawker will be brought under scrutiny and most likely thrown out of court.

Once they've found out you lied about anything, everything you say becomes suspect. Hogan himself has said he has a shocking memory, and that's why he calls everyone "Brother". It's simply because he can't remember their names.

It was also reported when the racism story was first released, that there was more to come. Maybe this is it, the other foot might have just dropped. I still can't believe that he has ruined his life over a sex tape. Most other celebrities that have had tapes come out about them, get embarrassed, lay low for a little while, but eventually the public forgets. In this case Hogan has been his own worst enemy. He should have left it alone right from day one.

If it's true, then no. I heard about the sex tape, but it just sort of evaporated in my memory. I had forgotten about it until the lawsuit began in which now his reputation has been tarnished and he's out of a job. $100,000,000 (although I think he was hoping to settle- that seems like something he wouldn't get) would make up for that, maybe, but if he lied...he's screwed.

But we'll just have to see.

I ask again. Was it really worth it?

I have a bunch of lawyer friends who I love to get talking when it comes to ridiculous legal matters, it's like listening to Cornette rant on Russo. One of their favorite things to say, which I often repeat just to make fun of them, is that lawyers are there to make people "think things through". I repeat "think things through?" and they repeat back "think things through", and that goes on for a good ten minutes before they tell me to shut up.

Either Hogan has a REALLY bad lawyer (or group of lawyers) or his mind has turned to mush in the same manner as Mickey Rourke's character in The Wrestler. I'm leaning toward the latter; I think Hogan is more bent on winning a war than he is counting the blessings that come with just being a regular old guy.

Human beings are hard wired to love revenge, it's the one vice we'll never evolve past. Someone wrongs you, you make them regret it but figuratively or literally hitting them where it hurts or you play up the "I'm so fucking virtuous" card and quote Ghandi while you arrogantly raise your nose to them.

Hogan could have just let the sex tape slide. Personally, I don't think there was anything really to be embarrassed about. Celebrities have sex tapes, they're so uninteresting that by calling them "sex tapes" we're making them sound old fashioned on their own. The name harks back to when my generation would have gigantic shelves of bulky VHS tapes. He may as well have made a sex Betamax. I don't think anyone except the players involved in this lawsuit fiasco have actually watched the video.

Hogan didn't think things through, and unwittingly let the public in on his careless racism when decided on bankrupting a company that specializes in public-opinion backlash. If a troll posts Hogan's dong on Twitter and your ten year old finds it, that can be explained. If a social media crusader posts audio of Hogan dropping n-bombs like a fucking neo-Nazi and your ten year old finds it, your only means of not scaring him for life is to explain that Hogan is just a bad bad person.

When you're pathetically channeling a higher power through Twitter in a non-specific attempt at making amends with an entire race of people that you've slighted, go ahead and pony up the truth when under oath or when being interviewed by the FBI. Perhaps all this inconvenient lying went down before Hogan's racism came to light, but either way; Hogan obviously didn't think things through.

Yes, and President Clinton was impeached, not for having sex with a woman in the White House (as many people foolishly believed) but for lying about it to Congress. How big a deal the authorities involved will make of this depends on how big a deal they want to make of it. In Clinton's case, they tried to remove a man as President of the United States over a question that was none of anyone's damn business in the first place. The national security of our country was hardly threatened by his 'deeds'

Hogan? Given the subject of the whole mess, I can't imagine what he would have lied about, yet celebrated people are so busy trying to maintain their public personae that it's not unusual for the truth to take a back seat.

Still, it seems hard to believe any of this will land Hulk's aged ass in the slammer.

Too bad. It might have been amusing to see him fight a real steel cage match.

It'll be a sad sight to see when he's not able to bleach that mustache, and his hair starts getting raggedy.

Worth it? We all know the answer to that. Hulk has screwed up big time and it's just a shame to see the biggest wrestling star of all time go down hill so quickly. All his fault though, at the end of the day. Just mistake after mistake. Almost makes you want to feel sorry for him.

I really don't know what to make of the whole Hogan situation - It never rains but it pours!

Nothing will stop me loving Hulk Hogan the character, but Terry B has things to sort out that's for sure!

He does for sure. I don't think he is actually racist, I think he was just pissed off at his daughter and it wouldn't have mattered who she was dating at the time, he would probably have gone off on them. That doesn't make what he did right but I do think he deserves to be forgiven in time, especially if he shows he is sincerely sorry.
