**MERGED** Summerslam 2012 Discussion- KEEP IT ALL IN HERE!

If true, I'd love it. But I think the right thing to do would be for Cena to put Punk over. Your biggest cash cow losing to a guy so close to his status would benefit Punk greatly and accelerate him to Cena status IMO.

WZ has learned from sources WWE's current and tentative plan for the WWE Championship match at SummerSlam in August.

As of now, WWE is looking at having CM Punk defend the WWE Championship against John Cena at SummerSlam on August 19th.

The plan is to build the show around Punk versus Cena and Brock Lesnar versus Triple H. As for why WWE is deciding to go with CM Punk versus John Cena for the WWE Championship for the second SummerSlam in a row - a source said WWE doesn't want their top draw to be in the fourth most important match. The source is referring to having the Brock Lesnar versus Triple H match, two world title matches and then a fourth match featuring Cena.

SummerSlam is one of the biggest pay-per-views of the year in a major television market of Los Angeles, CA - WWE wants Cena to be in a title match and on the top of the billing.

Kind of a dumb reason to make the match though. Every match that involves Cena is a big match, whether it's the top storyline, etc.

The obvious question would be does Punk turn heel or good guy vs. good guy? Either way, people will still cheer for Punk.

It is being reported that major rock act Metallica may be performing at SummerSlam, as well as other promotional efforts within the 'E.

The band is huge, and have sold over 100 million albums.

Is this better than Cee Lo Green last year?

Haha, thoughts?

Love Metallica. Would love it even more if they didn't perform at SummerSlam. By all means utilize one of their songs for the video introduction, or whatever. But have them playing live at the show is a waste of my time.

If I order SummerSlam it'll be to watch wrestling, not a band.

Maybe WWE should just scrap the entire concept of a musical performance at SS. Dont get me wrong, I love me some Metallica but, really? The last time this band was relevant they were having a serious beef...with Napster. Cee Lo was a huge improvement last year and it sparked a wave of using mainstream artists on WWE ppv which is what should be done. If they cant afford a current mainstream artist then they should just ask Living Color to perform Punk's song.

Cena being in the "fourth" most important match at a PPV hasn't stopped him from hogging the main events anyway for every single PPV this year, so that's an absolutely garbage excuse.

They've got a great plot with Bryan/Punk/Kane/AJ which frankly began all the way back in December when Bryan won the WHC, which makes it one of the longest running and most consistently entertaining WWE stories of the last many years. Dropping Punk from it (even if he hasn't contributed much to it) and taking the title with him is annoying. Cena does not need the title, the ratings for his segments don't change whether he's the champion or not.

Okay, so I was brainstorming a potential SummerSlam card with a little over a month left. Here are my top matches. Not too bad and very realistic IMO:

WWE Championship - CM Punk vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton

I can realllyyy see this happening. I can't see the rumored Cena-Punk happening. If it were to happen, then that means the storyline would need to continue into the fall months, which would become too bland sooner rather than later. This is the Austin-Rock-HHH of this generation and it needs to happen eventually. The storyline can even revolve around "who is the true face of the WWE." My scenario: Cena wins the briefcase and challenges Punk for SummerSlam at the 1000th episode of RAW. Punk agrees and the two have an in-ring promo hyping the match. The newly announced GM comes out and states he is in support of the match happening but also says he had already granted someone the number one contender spot before Cena made the challenge...Ortons music hits and he makes his return to set up the blockbuster main event.

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar (Street Fight?)

We all know this is going to happen. I can see a street fight or similar stipulation being added. A regular one-on-one match between the two would suck IMO. especially after seeing how Brock is not the same wrestling machine he once was.

World Championship - Sheamus vs. Chris Jericho

Sheamus' feud with Del Rio and Ziggler will end at MITB. I can't see it going on any further simply because it lacks star power for SummerSlam. Jericho needs a top match at a PPV like this. I'm not completely sold on Jericho taking another leave after the summer. Wishful thinking, but this would be a perfect time to take the title off Sheamus and give Jericho one last major title run.

Daniel Bryan vs. Rey Mysterio

It really hurts not putting Daniel Bryan in one of the championship matches, but this is a dream match in itself. Rey will return on or before the 1000th episode of Raw and this feud can begin. All these two need is a little over 10 minutes and they can possibly steal the show. After all, it might do Bryan good to leave the title scene for a little bit.

Ryback vs. ???

I can't see another squash match happening at such a big PPV. I have a strong feeling Summerslam will be the first time we see Ryback in a legit one-on-one match. Big Show? Kane? Del Rio?

I see that Summerslam is in L.A. How about The Miz comes out to cut a promo how he is the biggest star in Hollywood now he has starred in The Marine 3. This would be the perfect opportunity for The Rock to return just for 1 night! Who better to address the L.A Crowd than The Great One.

Ryback vs Mark Henry is one I would look at. Ryback could come over very strong from this fued. I would also like to see Mysterio and Sin Cara team up and go for the tag titles. Rey is set to return and Cara isnt doing anything. Could set them up for a potential WM29 match.

I did not take the time to read ALL *nine* pages of previous posts regarding Summer Slam but in terms of what matches will take place, one has to figure:

- John Cena vs CM Punk - WWE Title
- Sheamus defends the World Championship
- Triple H vs Brock Lesnar
- Chris Jericho vs Wade Barrett IF Barrett is healthy (scheduled to be back in AUG)
- Rey Mysterio vs Alberto Del Rio (ADR put Rey out with injury, kayfabe)

Randy Orton needs a spot on the card as well, perhaps he will face Sheamus or if WWE is still down on him for his suspension perhaps he could put someone over.

You also have Big Show, who they have invested time in turning him heel and building him up

And lastly, there's Daniel Bryan- it will be interesting to see where they go with his and AJs feud if Punk splinters off and faces Cena at SSlam

YES! He handed Cena his ass for 20 mins and lost, which I thought was good booking. He needs to put Trips on the shelf until maybe Survivor Series and they can have a classic SS match, but in order to build up Brock for whatever happens at WM he needs to look strong and at the very least not be pinned or submit, people will lose interest. It would be pretty interesting if he didn't win a single match during his 365 day contract, though. lol

I think so.

Lesnar needs to be booked to look dominant. He looked that way against Cena, but ended up losing. While I think that was the wrong decision, he still looked a force to be reckoned with, and gave Cena a vicious beating which we have rarely seen in the past.

However, if he loses again against Triple H, who is also part-time (unlike Cena) it will take away alot of interest in Lesnar. Why should we care, and in be awe on someone who can't win a match. He needs to come out of this match with a win so that people will WANT to see him fight again, even if that isn't until WM. Another Lesnar loss and whatever buzz is remaining will be gone.

I don't see any upside to Lesnar losing this match, and it would be stupid to book Triple H to go over. If Brock is going to fight Undertaker at WM (and almost certainly lose), why would anyone believe he has a shot at winning if he has lost every match since his return to the WWE? Lesnar needs the win here, far more than Triple H does.

I think he absolutely has to win in a dominant fashion to build him for whatever WM plans they have for him. I'm talking that he needs to look as strong coming out of this as he did against the Rock.

I would hope the WWE realise the mistake they made by having Cena defeat him in his first match, I honestly think they lost a lot of future money by going down that road, but Brock beating the hell out of Triple H would do a lot to bring his shine back

Lesnar needs to be booked to look dominant.

Agreed, and he sure isn't going to look that way if he goes 0-2 in WWE. At the same time, while Cena is a constant presence and a loss to a "temporary" employee might hurt his standing, Triple H has no such restrictions; he can win or lose and still maintain the same high reputation he possesses for whenever his next mini-feud arises. Having Brock beat the hell out of Trips hurts nothing in the storyline, yet paints Brock as the monster WWE needs him to be going into the latter part of the year, when they start building toward Wrestlemania season.

When TNA hired Rob Van Dam to work a limited number of dates as a condition of his contract, they made the mistake of using up those appearances early in his TNA tenure, forcing them to cut back on his work in the latter stages of his contract, when they needed him most.

WWE seems to have learned the lesson; after Brock's introduction to the company, he has been used sparingly.....the suggestion being that we'll see a lot more of him after the Summer.

But, yes, Brock needs to win this match.....and I believe he has the perfect opponent with whom to accomplish this.

If this is going to be Lesnar's only match before WrestleMania, then I would say yes. He needs some momentum even if he is going to lose later, to give some credibility to the new fans (the ones who didn't see him dominate in 2002-04).

If this is going to be his last match, then no. There's no reason to put a victory on a guy who is not going to be around.

From Brock's PoV, he has lost in his last 3 WWE appearances (against Eddie G., Goldberg and Cena) so he NEEDS this victory to prove that he is still a force to reckon with.

Main Event - Triple H vs Brock Lesnar
99.9% certain this match will be announced. Maybe have some gimmick element too it. Wouldnt be surprised to see Heyman and maybe Big Johnny involved.

WWE Title - CM Punk vs John Cena
Raw 1000 wont be without controversy. Rematch to take place at Summerslam. May even have Big Show thrown in to make it a triple threat.

Alberto Del Rio vs Rey Mysterio
Looks like the seeds planted last night.

Dolph Ziggler vs Chris Jericho
Looks like the seeds planted last night.

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP
CM Punk (c) vs Randy Orton vs John Cena

I would like to see the main event about the title at Summerslam. I don't think a match between Punk and Cena would be big enough to be honest. Not after them headlining last year as well. Throw Orton into the mix and I think it'll make it a lot more interesting. The companies three biggest names going at it for the belt. Orton could play a heel/tweener roll on his return. Id like to see Orton win and feud with Punk for the belt.

STREET FIGHT
Triple H vs Brock Lesnar

Whilst im looking forward to this one, there has been no real build up to the match. Id have Lesnar go over. It does nothing for Triple H to win this match. Lesnar needs it. He'll disappear again after it and then re-emerge in time for the Rumble.

HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Sheamus (c) vs Wade Barrett

Sheamus hasn't really had a good feud in a while now. I think when Barrett returns he should be pushing for the title. Id like to see these two fued for a while, with Barrett maybe picking up the title at some point. In this match though I'd have Sheamus go over, but maybe Barrett attacking him after the bell or something.

Dolph Ziggler vs Chris Jericho

Looks like it could be a good feud this. A win does nothing for Jericho so i'd have Ziggler go over cleanly. Start him on his puch for the WHC championship.

INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP - LADDER MATCH
Christian (c) vs Cody Rhodes

These two in a ladder match for the belt would be good I reckon. Continuing their fued. Id have Christian retain overall.

Rey Mysterio vs Alberto Del Rio

I like the sound of this match. I think the two could work well together. Del Rio isnt really getting over at main event level. A good feud with Mysterio could help him.

TAG TEAM TITLES
Kofi Kingston & Truth (c) vs Prime Time Players vs Primo & Epico

Good to see the tag titles relivent again. These three have been back and forth for a while, so would be good to see it culimnate in a triple threat match. Id give the win to PTP just to shake it up a bit.

Daniel Bryan vs Kane

More just to give these two something to do really. They could continue the fued they had recently. I don't really see this feud going anywhere, but would help Bryan in his face turn. Id give Kane the win via DQ or something.

WWE Championship - John Cena (c) vs CM Punk (Special Guest Referee, The Rock) - I wouldn't like John Cena to win next week, but I'm one of the minority to think he will. I think The Rock will cost CM Punk the match, then Rock Bottom Cena after he's won the title. The rematch will be at Summerslam, then The Rock will confirm he will be the Guest Referee. I think Cena will retain, and CM Punk will slowly turn Tweener.

Street Fight - Triple H vs Brock Lesnar - Not looking forward to this match, but it will include a stipulation including Heyman. I don't think this will be a big pay off, just be glad it's over soon.

World Heavyweight Championship - Sheamus (c) vs Randy Orton - Return of the punt kick to turn him heel, have him fight Sheamus. Orton goes over to become Champion, but Sheamus is still in the title chase. These two could have some good physical bouts.

Singles match - Dolph Ziggler vs Chris Jericho - Their confrontation on Raw was brilliant. It gave Ziggler a chance to speak, and he did fairly well, and Jericho could have a face turn soon, as he got a huge pop.

Triple Threat Tag Team Championship Ladder match - Kofi Kingston/R-Truth (c) vs The Prime Time Players vs Primo/Epico - I'm glad with what WWE have done with the division so far. They need a shock factor. Maybe have The Prime Time Players win, but 'injure' Epico or Primo after the match. It could be an incredible match.

Grudge Match - Rey Mysterio vs Alberto Del Rio - Return of the Grudge Match, to make Del Rio look aggressive, and have him destroy Mysterio. Have a strong showing between the two.

And a few more matches, not sure what yet though.

Here's what I would like to see:

WWE Championship
CM Punk vs John Cena (c)

We've been hearing about it on this site for ages now and Cena himself said he would cash in at Raw 1000. I think he could win it then and then Punk gets his rematch at Summerslam.

HHH vs Brock Lesnar

This could possibly be the main event. It also wouldn't surprise me if this became some sort of hardcore match.

World Heavyweight Championship
Randy Orton vs Sheamus (c)

Another match we've seen rumored about on this site. Apparently they don't think Sheamus is quite ready to carry Smackdown, and I agree. I honestly can't wait for Sheamus to drop the belt.

Rey Mysterio vs Alberto del Rio

Makes sense seeing as Del Rio injured Mysterio last year around this time (I think), although I don't really know who would go over here.

Chris Jericho vs Dolph Ziggler

I can see Jericho playing almost as a face for a few weeks and then leave after Summerslam. Assuming he does come back again after he leaves, I can see Dolph going over, maybe injuring Jericho as well??? Who knows but it could be a good feud.

The Miz vs Daniel Bryan

This match could include Eve and AJ. They may even be in the match. Anyway it looked like DB was kind of turning face yesterday so I think this makes sense.

Then apart from all that there may be one or two other matches, maybe a divas, tag team, Intercontinental championship, US championship or squash match.

If this is the card then I gotta say Summerslam would definitely look pretty impressive on paper.

Christian101 and dakikko049 , your proposed cards and match ups make perfect sense to me, they're what's starting to be built to following MitB, and they utilize WWE's key players.

What's thrown me is the report on the main page.

As of this writing, here are the top matches currently being discussed for WWE SummerSlam next month. As always, things can change as nothing has been officially announced for the event.

-Triple H vs Brock Lesnar
-CM Punk vs John Cena for the WWE Title
-Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio vs Dolph Ziggler in a Triple Threat Match for the World Title
-Daniel Bryan vs Chris Jericho

[source]

While the article doesn't sate who has been discussing these ideas, and that things can change as nothing has been officially announced for the event, it still surprised me as some of the matches seem to come out of left field.

Del Rio I could see going either way, and either sticking with Sheamus for a few more PPVs, or moving onto feud with someone new, but it surprises me Ziggler will be cashing in his briefcase so soon after Cena. I thought the Smackdown briefcase was going to be the slow burner.

Plus, where does this leave Orton. A few months ago there was talk of him being interjected back into the title hunt after his suspension is up.

Daniel Bryan and Chris Jericho haven't interacted for months, and I suppose this could change - especially if Jericho interrupts the wedding - but does that then mean Ziggler's confrontation with Jericho on this week's RAW was for nothing?

Also where does this leave The Miz, who had a mixed tag against Bryan this week? And what about a recently returned Rey Mysterio.

Personally I much prefer what you guys have suggested over what the main page is debating.

I think its going to be Cena vs Punk vs Show with Rock as guest ref.

Show wont go away and is obviously involve din this angle.

Now that Randy Orton is back I'm thinking he would make a good opponent for Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam. Bryan has obviously improved a lot this year and it would be a shame to see him fall too far down the card for the second biggest show of the year. Orton is the perfect opponent to keep him in an important spot. The feud would be fresh and it would be another step forward for Bryan. They could even do a funny promo where Orton gives Bryan advice on how to control his anger. Obviously WWE is teasing something between Bryan and Charlie Sheen but I don't see Sheen wrestling an actual match. Sheen could be in Orton's corner and get involved after the match. I think Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan is a good enough match to take place at SummerSlam and make it stand out a bit more as more important ppv.

With the title matches set for SummerSlam, I really hope we at least see one title change. I would love for that title change to be Del Rio, but WWE loves Sheamus and he has been putting on some good matches and has shown he deserves a long title reign so I don't see Del Rio winning here. That only leaves the triple threat match and I really don't want to see Cena or Show as the champ.

I think we might be getting another ppv with no title changes.

My Summerslam Card

Preshow:

Santino vs Sandow - US Title

This would be a good oppurtunity to push Sandow further by giving him the US Title

Summerslam:

Prime Time Players vs Kingston & R-Truth - WWE Tag Team Titles - Elimination Tables Match

Have PTP beat Epico & Primo to become No 1 Contenders. This could be an exciting match if booked correctly

Phoenix vs Layla - Divas Title

Should be a squash match for Beth, have here regain what should be hers

Bryan vs Kane - Charlie Sheen Special Guest Referee

It could be Kane, could be someone else. Just for Sheen to get a bit of bragging rights against bryan

Ziggler vs Jericho - Briefcase vs Career Match

These two can put on a great match. It will be a good way for Jericho to go out.

Miz vs Mysterio vs Christian - Intercontinental Title

Miz's greatest challenge. Rey & Christian can have some good spots and work together, Miz can get a quick pin on Christian to lead into NoC

Del Rio vs Sheamus - World Heavyweight Title

Del Rio should do the same as he did at MitB. Attack Sheamus after he loses. Ziggler comes out but doesn't cash in after Sheamus pulls himself up as he enters.

Orton vs Rhodes

Have Booker T force Rhodes into this match, good way for Orton to return

Ryback vs Hunico & Camacho

Another squash match, but Hunico & Camacho can get some near falls and some good Tag Team spots

Cena vs Punk vs Big Show - WWE Title

Cena & Punk will have to carry Show in this one. Have the normal domination by Big Show, then Punk and Cena start to work together a bit. Then, Punk turns against Cena and gives him the GTS

Lesnar vs HHH - Street Fight

The big one. Heyman gets involved. Lesnar has to win to make him look unstoppable.

1}lesnar vs HHH - never will be a street fight {HBK is in the corner of HHH}.
2}jericho's carrer won't end in a stupid match against ziggler.
3}why you put mysterio in the IC title match?

note:rhodes vs orton is a really good idea.

didnt know about hbk, it was on the fact that hhh wanted a fight and it will probably be done as a pretty heavy hitting match

jericho is leaving wwe after summerslam, so it is likely that he will face ziggler. i think losing would be a good way to end the feud for now and have him a good pushing chance when he returns

really because all of the people he has had matcheswith since he came back are in a match, or will be in a match, so it is just filler and something for rey to do

He says he isnt working, but I dont believe he'll be completely abscent. Though, there isnt anyone for him to work with at all from heel to face that would really be worth it. So I'm figuring he'll have a big segment spot.

Maybe RKO whoever's champion after Del Rio vs Sheamus

They have to do something significant with Orton at the biggest Summer event...

but, I say why not have all the matches they have, and that are rumored, on the card as they all have some build.

A match with Orton doesnt need build, it just will get attention and it's not a demotion, because they've had big stars do it already, so why not just insert Orton into the PPV Pre-Show with a midcard star who could use the exposure with Orton. I'd say have it be an Open Challenge by Orton and maybe even have Tyler Rex and Curt Hawkins come out and both want a piece and Orton says both of you guys bring it, and RKOs them both at the end to win.

Either that or Santino can come down making it a Viper/Cobra one night only teaming against Rex and Hawkins

What do you think about it? Atleast it assures people will tune into it and SummerSlam will be hot from beginning to end!

What would you guys have Orton do?
