**MERGED** CM Punk heel turn? (Keep it in here!!!!)

I don't know about anyone else, but I was pretty excited after the main even ended. A GTS to The Rock is definitely the BEST way to turn heel. Personally I'm happy to see him turn heel as he is much better as a heel than a face. Thoughts??

I think we all agree that he is a better heel than face, though he was doing a good job as a face. His character will become a lot more interesting now though. I just hope they keep the strap on him for a little while longer in a CLEAN fashion. I am beyond sick of how heels only get cheap wins, if anyone deserves better it's Punk.

Well folks we all saw it on the 1000 episode of Monday Night Raw. Right before Punk could tap to Cena's STF, Show interfered allowing Punk to hold on to the title. BUT, then as Show beats down Cena, The Rock comes out to lay the smackdown on Show but before Rock could hit the people's elbow, Punk stepped in and put the Rock to sleep. I think Punk is going through a character change back into the Punk we all fell in love with over a year ago. We'll find out for sure next week as Punk seemed conflicted, but I think it's official. CM Punk has gone heel. Thoughts?

It pretty much solidified what most of us already knew. John Cena is Superman and no man alive other than the Rock can defeat him. CM Punk has been holding the title for Cena, and now it's time for WWE to feed Punk to Cena so Cena can go over the Rock at Royal Rumble with the belt on the line. Just like HHH will go over Lesnar to add that footage to the WWE archives and try to make WWE look more hardcore than UFC :lmao::lmao:. It was a glorious run for CM Punk, and it was fun getting to see someone of his wrestling ability be champion for the time he has. But I'm afraid it's the end for Punk and in one of the following PPVs John Cena will be your next champion and will hold that until he defeats the Rock. That being said CM Punk will be a great heel of course. It's not his fault he was never given the headlines to PPVs.. He was like Macho Man during his reign with Hogan waiting in the background to take the strap back. At least we have Austin Aries in TNA still for when Superman takes the strap.

i liked it, it was kinda out of nowhere and unexpected and seems that the big angle is Punk's heel turn and hopefully he holds onto the title through this heel run as i do NOT want to see Cena holding the title anytime soon, but Punk as a heel should be interesting and fresh to see.

Easy, I'm assuming this will be the "huge summer angle" WWE has in mind, Punk vs Rock at Summerslam, it would make NO sense to have just had Punk attack Rock and make us wait until Royal Rumble, and if that really is the plan, to wait until January then Punk will retain the title until then, which yes is a good thing, but makes no sense from a booking standpoint to reveal such a setup so soon that includes the current WWE champion, but shows that he may or may not even be champion by then. My thoughts are simple, he will face Rock at Summerslam and go on to say that he doesn't deserve a shot at the title etc etc. Just look back at all the comments he had about Rocky around Wrestlemania. This is a good thing, although they really love switching Punk around a lot, this is what his 3rd heel turn?

I guess we'll have to tune in next week to really find out what's going on. I'm on the fence about a potential CM Punk heel turn. I do think that some of Punk's best work was when he was a heel but from a personal standpoint, I enjoy him as a face. I don't really see a reason why he should turn heel at this stage but I hope this doesn't set up Cena regaining the briefcase (due to the match's finish) and cashing it in at Summerslam and winning the title. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm one of Cena's biggest supporters but that is just the last thing I want to see. At the very least, WWE succeeded in peaking my interest with what's going on with Punk. He's obviously going to be working with Cena and Rock meaning that he likely won't be as overshadowed as he was during the past months. I definitely see him closing PPVs now and that's a definite step up.

CM Punk suddenly turns into a cowardly heel for some reason, he cheats to retain against Cena a couple of times looses the belt and moves down the card in favour of Cena/Lesnar/Rocky etc. I hate out of the blue heel turns especially those who are high up in the card and even worse champions as they suddenly go from being proud champions to cowards for some reason even though they never needed to be previously.

He makes a great heel and I've been really looking forward to this side of him again. I definitely see Punk and Rock coming much sooner than RR but I'm thinking more Survivor Series because it's a bigger ppv and that was the rumor was that Rock would be in action at SS I believe it was.

I for one love this heel turn.

CM Punk is better as a heel. Also, this enables all kinds of scenarios, like Punk-Cena, Punk-Rock, Punk-Sheamus.

This is what I was thinking when Punk delivered the GTS to Rock. After holding the title for so long and being booked as a strong champion who defeats all comers, was it really necessary for him to be booked in such a way tonight? He looked strong before so why the sudden 180?

With that said, while I'm not really seeing much logic in what's going in with Punk right now, I will acknowledge that Punk is a natural heel. Some of my favorite work from Punk was when he was a heel. If WWE wants to turn him so badly then fine. I don't agree with it but fine. But please let's not see him booked in a way that makes him look like weak like tonight. Heels can win clean too. As I said in another thread, at least WWE has renewed my interest in Punk. I really want to hear his explanation for his actions and if Cena will be given back the MITB briefcase due to the interference tonight. I'm really looking forward to seeing where Punk goes from here.

someone mentioned Cena possibly getting his case back, i dont see that happening and if that did happen, then WWE would've made a HUGE mistake as it makes no sense. so if someone gets cheated, then they get the briefcase back or if the match ends in DQ they get the case back, dont see that happening, i do see either a re-match with Punk and Cena or a triple threat with Punk sneaking in a win over Cena, but Cena didnt win the title in his money in the bank cash in.

Well I think the heel turn was a great move by creative, we will definitely see Punk in the last match/main events now. Which I feel he has really earned with this championship run, Punk did a great job as a face despite not being booked to work with the top talent, in the traditional main event slot. He elicited tremendous babyface pops, (much more favorable then Cena, but what else is new there) even with Cena was still in all the important angles. With working with Cena and now The Rock as a heel, this will all but solidify Punk as a true top talent main event worker, even after he drops the belt now.

Here's what boggles my mind, Punk didn't turn heel. He never kissed babies or was a part of any Be a Star promotions, yeah he cheesed up a little over the past year, but tonight he simply played the anti-hero. The grown men will still cheer him (like always) and the kids will still cheer Cena. Punk gave Rock the GTS, but he hasn't kissed Rock's ass at all this past year. People act shocked, and I loved the ending, but Punk will still be Punk.

This heel turn is WWE's way of trying to make us support Cena. They don't do what works, they tell us what we should like.

It will backfire on them. They may try to make Punk the heel but they havent learned anything from the last year, anyone interesting gets cheered over Cena.

They may have him take shots at the Rock, "shoot on things", have another go at Cena, but i see him playing the Anti hero rather than the villian. Before you know it, he will be getting the loudest pops again for being the "Voice of the Voiceless".

And they will scratch there heads and wonder why we wont love Cena like they do.

I applaud whoever smacked WWE creatives Fisher Price my first Creative pen away from there hands and did this to Punk. He got to smiley good guy, he bacame what he hated.

I agree with two posts here for sure. One in that I was surprised on how fast the crowd turned on Punk. One GTS to The Rock and BAM. Was a great way to turn heel, but the other post I agree with is the one that said he hope Punk remains strong. After the title run he has had there is no reason for him to play the cowardly cheating heel everytime. I think in the end though this will be good for Punk. He is a natural heel, and maybe his promos will get back on the level they were last summer. He has still been good, but a bit watered down. All said though this has renewed my interest in CM Punk.

So this was the "huge" summer angle that WWE was planning? I guess Punk turning heel is big. But he's been a heel. He's been a face. And I think most people knew he'd win the match. Now it sets up Punk vs. Rock for the belt. Rock wins and faces Cena at Wrestlemania. Cena beats Rock and wins the championship, thus giving the current guy the bigger win.

I don't know, it just didn't seem that big to me.

People need to stop griping and moaning about Cena. Hate the game, not the players. Hate Vince. Cena is just doing what he needs to like any boss/employee would

Moderators must be loving their roles now, huh? You guys deserve a salary.

CM Punk's turn was genius. He goes from the rebel with a cause last year that all the fans stood behind and supported through thick and thin, to the rebel without a cause that seemingly the fans won't stand behind once he stands up to The Rock. It's his entire character in the last year come full circle, and now all they have to do is give him the microphone and allow him to use one year worth of material and blame everybody surrounding him.

They've basically completed this Steve Austin comparison, and that may be what they're building towards. Austin said he wanted to work with Punk at his best, CM Punk is at his best as a heel, he holds the title until Royal Rumble and then he faces The Rock. Punk as a heel is much better than Punk as a face, their promos will be entertaining, their match already has some build going towards it, the entire thing is genius and the WWE deserve credit for not just this, but a great show all around.

CM Punk does need to pose the question however, where are his damn Ice Cream bars? If anyone ever needed a comical reasoning for a heel turn, may be it.

Well, I can't comment too much on this before we get more into this, but two things about the ending really bugged me.

1. Cena won by disqualification, meaning that his MITB shot is now out of the window. While this hasn't happened to anyone else, I don't understand why Cena couldn't just be the first one to lose the MITB cash-in. I think it could've been interesting, what with his loss to Rock, Big Johnny, and him being decimated by Lesnar, the downfall of John Cena would've mde a good deal of sense.

2. Why fix something that was never broken? If the heel turn is where we're going for this feud with Rock (even though it won't pick up for months to come), it isn't needed. Punk was doing just fine as a face champion. He could've remained the sarcastic anti-face and I think things would still go smoothly.

If Punk plays the role of "Anti-Hero" everything will go fine. If he plays a full fledged heel, I just don't think it will work out. Punk does a wonderful job as a heel, and as a face, but IMO his best work was in the summer of 2011 when he was a tweener. If he goes back to that, and does some more "shoots" and "curses" some more, the fans will cheer him again. Hell, either way the fans will still cheer him on. He's loved to death, heel or face. The way they booked his supposed full heel turn though, isn't well the best ever, nor really logical. But that's the E for you, logic is down the shitter.

This heel turn is WWE's way of trying to make us support Cena. They don't do what works, they tell us what we should like.
i dont agree. why would anyone switch from Punk to Cena just overnight??? Cena's still going to have his following and Punk will have his following, but now it will be as a heel.
CM Punk's heel turn is just simply signalling me that it's high time to stop watching WWE from now on..
i could agree if WWE has Punk lose his title and then get buried (like he was last time he was heel), but Punk as a heel is interesting, i mean, his feud with Hardy as a heel was entertaining and his promos and pipebombs can be great for a heel character as well.

I'll say the main reason why I don't want a heel Punk is because he will start losing matches allot. I know wins/loses mean nothing but i still like seeing my favourite wrestlers win matches and when someone is a heel they are destined to lose for the most part.

Fucking awesome!!!! I'm such a Rock groupie that I always hated when someone got the best of him. But this was amazing! I felt like such a kid again. This is how Raw should be every night. I remember there was a time where something crazy happened at the end of the show and you couldn't wait till Thursday to see what happens on Smackdown.

Punk's heel turn was amazing. He needed it to refresh his character. If I didn't believe it before I believe it now Phil Brooks has definitely arrived in the WWE. I thought a rematch with Cena would be great for his character and elevating him, but now feuding with The Rock...the best is yet to come for Punk. The promos are going to be epic between these two. Definitely in favor of heel Punk...but of course Pro Rocky lol.

Hell they could even throw DB into this mess if executed right. Great job by the WWE tonight but If only Austin showed up....

The best option for CM Punk has always been to be a tweener.

It's why he drew comparisons to Stone Cold, it's why his promo went over so much, and it's why the older fan base loves him so much. He, as well as anybody in the history of wrestling, can play the tweener. It's his biggest strength. As a babyface, CM Punk doesn't have a lot to offer. Pure babyfaces need to be simple fun, and Punk can't really do that. Punk can't be Hulk Hogan. Punk isn't Sting.

I also don't care for Punk as pure heel. There will always be a certain piece of the audience that wants to cheer for him. Even when he was a heel before the shoot promo, he was cheered by a minority of the audience; the hardcore fan. You can't have both. John Cena is about the only person who has ever made a go with the split audience, and: 1) it hasn't been the smartest decision of the WWE to just keep it that way and; 2) it wasn't by choice that he fell into that spot.

Punk isn't clean enough to be a pure babyface, and he is too good to be a pure heel. CM Punk is a tweener, and that's how he should be booked. As a performer, he's Stone Cold's educated cousin. He's Ric Flair's rebellious nephew. You have to embrace that he's cold, but that the crowd still loves him.

This heel turn only justifies their desire to get Cena back on top. They're going to push CM Punk back. They're going to use him to get other babyfaces over, all of which aren't as good as Punk. Don't get me wrong, a pure heel Punk is better than a pure babyface Punk. He just has to be. But, this won't end well for Punk. He'll be back to first half of the card grudge matches at WrestleMania, and that's worse than what he deserves.
