Match of the Week

I guess I'll have to go with the tag team main event match from Smackdown. Swagger & Punk VS Mysterio & Big Show was pretty solid, and I was happy WWE had Kane come out at the end of the match, and not during it. The tag team main event match between Orton/Cena and Edge/Sheamus had potential, but the NXT invasion angle got in the way of that. I also wanted to pick Desmond Wolfe VS Jay Lethal from Impact, but there were way too many antics during that match.

Agreed Mitch, I think that the Smackdown main event was the better match of the week, they put on a good showing there, and while I don't particularly think they should have Jack and Punk loose, it was still a good one, especially with Kane in the end, while it wasn't a part of the match, kinda made it better for me.

A honorable mention would definitely have to be the tag team match from RAW, but as you noted yourself Mitch, the NXT angle got the better of RAW and it killed what could've been a great match.

Easy one for me. Most TV wrestling was quite shit this week. Nothing really worth much at all. The fourway for the US Title was the highlight for me, I'd say.

However, Kaz v. Kurt Angle from Slammiversary was the highlight of a pretty solid show. Crowd was into it and Kaz actually looked somewhat decent coming out of it. Kurt obviously continued to the be the best thing going for TNA and he's just a joy to watch out there.

Argh fuck how could I forget that one, that was actually the one that I thought would be the match of the week when I watched it during RAW, completely forgot about it.

So I guess I'm gonna change my vote, to this match, it was pretty good and it was very back and forth, saw some decent wrestling really, and a new champion in The Miz, which I like, as I never liked R-Truth as champion.

I'm going with Chris Jericho VS Evan Bourne from Raw this week. This was a very good match. Usually I can't stand Bourne, but I can't deny how good this match was. Lots of fast paced action, and Jericho can still go at a high level. Plus, Jericho's speech about him quiting if he lost before the match help add some extra suspense to this one.

I liked Kurt Angle Vs Desmond Wolfe from Impact, but the other matches they had in the past were far better than this one. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the no DQ match between Anderson and Abyss. This was pretty good, and although I really don't care that much about Abyss anymore, his heel turn might be worth watching, because everything surrounding it seems very intriguing.

Seeing as Sunday is being counted along when talking about match of the week, my vote will go to Chris Jericho vs Evan Bourne at Fatal Four Way.

I think it was pretty good, Chris is such a great talent to make anybody look good, and he made Evan look great, he did the same thing again on RAW the night afterwards, and I think it just proves that it was not a one time thing.

Two honorable mentions for me would have to be the Smackdown Fatal Four Way last Sunday because while I didn't like the result, I liked the match, it was very good with 3 great in-ring athletes and Big Show (who still did pretty good even if he's limited inside the ring compared to the 3 others).

The other honorable mention would of course be Evan Bourne vs Chris Jericho on RAW, because it repeated the success of their match from the night before that, and made Evan look great even if Chris pulled out the victory.

My match of the week would also have to be the match between Evan Bourne and Chris Jericho at Fatal Fourway or on Raw the following night, as both were great matches. Both men have looked good throughout this mini feud I guess and Evan Bourne is looking like he can finally hang with the some of the veterans.

My honorable mention would be Jay Lethal vs Frankie Kazarian on TNA Impact. I know this wasn't exactly a great match, but for me it's the story that made this match. It's great to see TNA finally using it's own talent in a somewhat proper way. I've been saying for years the only way for TNA to get over is for their own talent to help elevate each other and make each better, and TNA seems to be somewhat getting that right amongst all this Hogan-centered circus show.

I'm going in a different direction to everyone else this week, becasue i'm picking McIntyre vs Kofi at Fatal 4 Way. I thought it was a very good match in its own right and I think it was even better as an opener because of the feelgood ending. The crowd certainly seemed to be into it anyway. The ending was a little predictable and cheesy I guess, but it was still enjoyable to watch. The only thing I didn't like was Hardy getting involved because it made Kofi look a little weak that Teddy AND Matt had to help him win. Overall though, my favourite match of the week.

I also have to say the two Jericho vs Bourne matches were great to watch. Just some fantastic wrestling in both of them. I'm really liking Bourne at the moment, and I never thought I'd say that.

Didn't watch enough this week, I'd say. Apparently there were a couple of decent matches on Impact this week, but obviously they can't be considered with me not watching them and everything. You'll have to understand.

I suppose I'll have to go with the majority here and take Bourne/Jericho. The flying little guy suddenly means something in the company. What a shocker. Jericho is a nice man as well. Their PPV match was better than the one on Raw, but we're just picking nits at that point.

My choice for Match of the Week this time would have to be the RAW main event, it was pretty damn good, and had some awesome back and forth moves, and I feel that the ending of it (or more like aftermath) was what made this match a little bit more special, with the ladders being introduced and Randy Orton climbing the ladder in the end of it.

The honorable mention would have to be the Smackdown main event, which was pretty good as well, even though it ended in a disqualification, which I think ruined it a little bit, but it was still pretty good and made both teams look strong.

Raw main event was aiight, I suppose. Hell of a weak ending though. Teddy Boy didn't look too good there, not at all.

I guess I'll have to go with AJ/Joe from Impact on Thursday. Nothing to right home about as it was pretty short, but it's always enjoyable to watch these two go at it. Hopefully this is the start of an AJ face turn or something of that sort. It'd please me greatly.

I'd probably have to go with the Raw main event. Overall, it was a pretty good match even if the ending to the match was weak. DiBiase came out looking like a complete punk.

The Joe/Styles match was alright, but I think they've set a pretty high standard in their past matches together. A standard 6 or 7 minute match between them just isn't gonna cut it, not by a long shot.

I almost forgot about this thread. How dare I.

I'm pretty torn this week. I think Kofi Kingston vs Drew McIntyre was definitely a great match. These two definitely does it every single time. Both great talents even though Drew probably couldn't hold a candle to some of the other wrestlers. They certainly made Smackdown a much better episode all together.

The other one I'm torn on would be Randy Orton & Evan Bourne vs Chris Jericho & Edge. Not because it was absolutely amazing. It was a good match. Especially for a tag team match. But I definitely think what made it great for me is that it show cased what we missed out on between Edge and Jericho. I think those two could've made one hell of a tag team. This match proved it.

A honorable mention might be the Triple Threat from Smackdown. It wasn't that fantastic but it was pretty decent. I still mark out for the Three Amigos.

The three standout matches this week were Randy Orton & Evan Bourne vs. Edge & Chris Jericho on Raw, Rob Van Dam vs. Samoa Joe on iMPACT! and Kofi Kingston vs. Drew McIntyre on Smackdown.

The Raw main event saw Evan Bourne continue his momentum by scoring another pinfall on Chris Jericho and it continued the really good hype the Raw MITB match has gotten. It was a good long match in which all four looked strong overall. The only downside really is that the winners of the match were never really in doubt, but there aren't many matches that take place nowadays in which the winners aren't pretty obvious.

The match with RVD and Samoa Joe was easily the best match on iMPACT! this week and, in my view, is the best match I've seen on iMPACT! in a long while. For the first time since becoming TNA World Heavyweight Champion, RVD had a match on iMPACT! that lived up to its potential. The TNA commentators have called several RVD matches since coming to TNA dream matches and almost all of them have fallen flat on iMPACT except this one. The downside is that the outcome was never even remotely in doubt. RVD defends the title at Victory Road, Samoa Joe isn't even on the card and Joe hasn't been in a significant or stable feud since his return to TNA. With the way the TNA Ranking System is set up, there's even a question of how long it will be before these two wrestle again if RVD remains champ. So, this match had something of a throwaway feel to it in the end even though it was very entertaining.

The match on Smackdown between Kofi Kinston and Drew McIntyre was also very fun to watch. These two have had quality matches against each other pretty much from the start and last night's match was definitely ppv quality in my book. Both of them worked hard and put on easily the best match of the night last night. McIntyre has been in something of a slump lately as far as wins go, so him winning last night really wasn't all that clear. It was forseeable, but far from being a lock. That's especially true since Kofi Kingston has been on a role since coming to Smackdown and last night was his first defeat.

For me, the match of the week goes to Kinston & McIntyre. Both of them work really well together and always wind up having high quality matches. The outcome of the match in and of itself meant something to the upcoming ppv and it was a win that I think McIntyre needed. The RVD/Samoa Joe match I'm putting second because it managed to live up to its potential and was really the first great match either of them have had in a very long time. But, it could possibly turn out that this match ultimately just becomes a throwaway since I don't think we could possibly have any hint of another match between these two until after the Victory Road ppv.

Hands down Joe vs RVD from impact. RVD looks like he has shaken some ring rust and actually has more left than people might have thought. I was impressed at how good he looked here, the flexibility and explosiveness that made him famous is still there in a respectable amount. It also established Joe back towards the top as a badass where they have been trying to get him. The finish was unique and interesting.

RVD/Joe, for me this week. Hell of a TV match. Not the best ever, but more than solid. Would you expect anything else from these two though? It's a shame it's RVD's first TV match in six months. It really is.

AJ/Kaz wasn't bad and neither was the Kofi/Drew. Really good week of wrestling, actually.

Id say hands down Joe Vs RVD. Everything you could have asked for and more out of that match, although a bit of a weird finish. Loved all the exchanges, the stiff work, really held my attention. Probably about as good of a TV match as you will ever see, one of the top...25? TV matches that I have seen, likely.

Samoa Joe v. RVD – an internet fans dream match. Hell, didn't TNA bill it as that anyway? I distinctly remember hearing either Taz or Tenay mention it, that's for sure.

Intensity up the wazoo and one of the better main events I've seen on a wrestling program in a while now.

There were some pretty good matches this week.

Raw produced a great match in Edge vs Randy Orton. Very back and forth and I liked how the involvement with Jericho kinda hyped the Pay Per View in itself. Perhaps it could build for a great 3 person feud. I don't know. Definitely a great match though.

Matt Hardy vs Dolph Ziggler was pretty damn good as well. I like how they're building Dolph to look strong. And it was done well against Kofi.

Smackdown also produced Christian vs Drew McIntyre which was also pretty good. WWE seems to be concentrating on building Drew again.

All three matches were pretty good. I'm a little torn which one I preferred. So I think I might have to go with Edge vs Randy Orton. Because it actually showcased a bit of what their Over The Limit match could've been like.

I'm going with Drew McIntyre VS Christian this week. This was a pretty good match, and Drew seems to be back on the road to being pushed. I liked Orton VS Edge from Raw. That match was a good way to build some hype for the MITB PPV.

Another match that surprised me was Sarita VS Taylor Wilde. I know it was a street fight, but still, for a women's match, this was pretty physical. Sarita seemed to get a good amount of heat, and her choking out Taylor was a nice way to end the match. Wilde VS Sarita brought back some old memories of what the Knockouts division used to be like.

The Guns and Beer Money had what was basically the best tag match of the past few years at Victory Road on Sunday. I'd think that'd be enough to get them MOTW, even with the silly false finish thing. TNA, always overbooking.

Their ladder match on Impact was pretty good as well. Really picked up towards the end. Once again, wasn't a huge fan of the ref bump finish. Edge/Orton was surprisingly good. They gave them a lot of time and really got the crowd into it.

Motor City Machine Guns vs Beer Money at Victory road. I'd consider it a match of the year candidate and it's easily the best match of the week.

The stand out matches this week were Edge vs. Randy Orton on Raw, The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Beer Money, Inc in a ladder match on iMPACT!, Chris Jericho vs. Yoshi Tatsu on Superstars, Kofi Kingston vs. Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre vs. Christian and Dolph Ziggler vs. Matt Hardy from Smackdown.

Edge vs. Orton was a good, solid match between two main eventers. Some good back and forth action that did a good job of making me want to see the MITB ppv, but the post match moments actually outshined the match in and of itself to some degree. Orton hitting Evan Bourne in the RKO while Bourne was in the middle of Air Bourne was friggin' sick. It was a good match that built hype for the ppv well, but nothing particularly special happened during the match in and of itself.

The Guns/Beer Money match on iMPACT! had a big match feel to it because it was the first in a series of 5 matches for the tag titles. There were some great ladder spots, as expected, and was among the best tag matches I've seen in a long time. Also, for the first time in months, the TNA World Tag Team Championship feels relevant again. The only complaint I really have about the match was that it was a little short as it only lasted about 9-10 minutes. I was also a little miffed about the willy nilly way that TNA goes about gimmick matches. I'd have thought a ladder match, especially one that lasts around 20 minutes at least, would have been a great match to conclude what could be a potentially epic series. Still, the match was a lot of fun.

Chris Jericho & Yoshi Tatsu were really the only saving graces of Superstars this week. Both worked hard and looked good in the ring together. I honestly didn't know who would win the match as Jericho is one of the few out there that can lose and still look as strong as ever. It was a good 12-13 minute match, Yoshi looked strong but Jericho finally forced him to tap to the Walls of Jericho. It was a fun match to watch, but it didn't really mean anything. It was a throwaway match with no connection to anything significant and Superstars in and of itself is a throwaway show.

Kofi Kingston vs. Cody Rhodes was the first match on Smackdown and I enjoyed it a lot. Both of them looked strong and also made me interesting in seeing Smackdown's MITB match. I enjoy no contest finishes, particularly due to outside interference, because neither guy lost anything. I think that the downside of this match is that Cody Rhodes isn't seen to be in Kofi Kinston's league yet. It's only been within the past few weeks that the WWE has really even started doing anything remotely significant with him. A really good match to watch and a potential feud builder, but it didn't have an important feel about it.

Drew McIntyre vs. Christian is a match I just flat out enjoyed. Like Chris Jericho, Christian is someone that can lose and still look strong in the eyes of the fans. They looked very good inside the ring together and McIntyre has improved a lot overall. It may have been a mistake giving him the IC title early on, I'm not sure, but he looked particularly strong in getting a clean win over Christian.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Matt Hardy was probably the weakest of the three big Smackdown matches this week, but it was still pretty good. Ziggler is someone that's improving a little as each week passes by and I'd say is somewhere close to the level he was before his push was halted by the WWE last year. This was a good match in which Ziggler gets a win, but it was somewhat weak compared to the others.

I know that the Guns and Beer Money had a match at the Victory Road ppv. I know that it was probably great but, since I didn't see it, I'm not going to include it. The Nexus vs. John Cena on Raw was a fun match but the match in and of itself was primarily to add fuel to The Nexus. Also, we all pretty much knew that The Nexus would get a win while hoping that the WWE wouldn't do something foolish like having SuperCena pop up and beat down 6 guys.

I'm not really sure which match gets the nod. For me, it's down to the Guns/Beer Money and McIntyre/Christian.

There are probably 3 options for match of the week this week Y2J/Orton/Edge, Kofi/Ziggler and Swagger/Rey 2/3 falls all three were very good for TV matches but fot MOTW I have to go for Orton/Edge/Y2J simply because it felt like a much bigger match than the other two and it was just overall a better match, I thought Kofi/Ziggler got a bit boring in parts and im not too crazy about Rey winning the 2/3 falls match.
