The stand out matches this week were Edge vs. Randy Orton on Raw, The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Beer Money, Inc in a ladder match on iMPACT!, Chris Jericho vs. Yoshi Tatsu on Superstars, Kofi Kingston vs. Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre vs. Christian and Dolph Ziggler vs. Matt Hardy from Smackdown.
Edge vs. Orton was a good, solid match between two main eventers. Some good back and forth action that did a good job of making me want to see the MITB ppv, but the post match moments actually outshined the match in and of itself to some degree. Orton hitting Evan Bourne in the RKO while Bourne was in the middle of Air Bourne was friggin' sick. It was a good match that built hype for the ppv well, but nothing particularly special happened during the match in and of itself.
The Guns/Beer Money match on iMPACT! had a big match feel to it because it was the first in a series of 5 matches for the tag titles. There were some great ladder spots, as expected, and was among the best tag matches I've seen in a long time. Also, for the first time in months, the TNA World Tag Team Championship feels relevant again. The only complaint I really have about the match was that it was a little short as it only lasted about 9-10 minutes. I was also a little miffed about the willy nilly way that TNA goes about gimmick matches. I'd have thought a ladder match, especially one that lasts around 20 minutes at least, would have been a great match to conclude what could be a potentially epic series. Still, the match was a lot of fun.
Chris Jericho & Yoshi Tatsu were really the only saving graces of Superstars this week. Both worked hard and looked good in the ring together. I honestly didn't know who would win the match as Jericho is one of the few out there that can lose and still look as strong as ever. It was a good 12-13 minute match, Yoshi looked strong but Jericho finally forced him to tap to the Walls of Jericho. It was a fun match to watch, but it didn't really mean anything. It was a throwaway match with no connection to anything significant and Superstars in and of itself is a throwaway show.
Kofi Kingston vs. Cody Rhodes was the first match on Smackdown and I enjoyed it a lot. Both of them looked strong and also made me interesting in seeing Smackdown's MITB match. I enjoy no contest finishes, particularly due to outside interference, because neither guy lost anything. I think that the downside of this match is that Cody Rhodes isn't seen to be in Kofi Kinston's league yet. It's only been within the past few weeks that the WWE has really even started doing anything remotely significant with him. A really good match to watch and a potential feud builder, but it didn't have an important feel about it.
Drew McIntyre vs. Christian is a match I just flat out enjoyed. Like Chris Jericho, Christian is someone that can lose and still look strong in the eyes of the fans. They looked very good inside the ring together and McIntyre has improved a lot overall. It may have been a mistake giving him the IC title early on, I'm not sure, but he looked particularly strong in getting a clean win over Christian.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Matt Hardy was probably the weakest of the three big Smackdown matches this week, but it was still pretty good. Ziggler is someone that's improving a little as each week passes by and I'd say is somewhere close to the level he was before his push was halted by the WWE last year. This was a good match in which Ziggler gets a win, but it was somewhat weak compared to the others.
I know that the Guns and Beer Money had a match at the Victory Road ppv. I know that it was probably great but, since I didn't see it, I'm not going to include it. The Nexus vs. John Cena on Raw was a fun match but the match in and of itself was primarily to add fuel to The Nexus. Also, we all pretty much knew that The Nexus would get a win while hoping that the WWE wouldn't do something foolish like having SuperCena pop up and beat down 6 guys.
I'm not really sure which match gets the nod. For me, it's down to the Guns/Beer Money and McIntyre/Christian.
