So can someone explain how Mike Tenay became "The Professor"? I've never heard anybody but Todd call him that.

It was his nickname in WCW. Despite how he may come across, Mike Tenay is a wrestling encyclopedia. Listened to him on IYH radio once and they put him to the test, answered every question anybody could throw at him correctly. Todd's just channeling his inner Tony Schiavone.

Mike Tenay's first real commentating job was the "When World's Collide" PPV back in 1994.

When WCW first started the cruiserweight division, they hired him because of his vast knowledge of the Mexican Luchadores, hence the "Professor" nickname.

Seriously, watch some old Nitros with him on commentary when there's a lucha match. He snaps off more stuff than they would have time to feed him in a headset. When Goldberg debuted, Tenay said he had no information about him. heenan and Tony nearly had heart attacks.
