Grand Theft Auto V Announced

So it's finally happened. Though a new GTA should come as a no surprise to no one, this is exciting news nonetheless. No one does open-world games better than Rockstar and I'm very excited to see how they plan to top the gargantuan masterpiece that was GTA IV.

While we don't have to wait long to find out what GTA V will entail, it's fun to speculate nonetheless. Looking at the rather redundant logo, the "V" is written in a font similar to that found on the US dollar. A D.C. type setting? Perhaps the main character is a disgruntled politician or mint employee? So I ask:

Are you excited for GTA V?

Where/When do you think the game will take place?

I can't say I have high hopes for GTA V. Grand Theft Auto IV was a massive letdown for me, what time I spent playing it felt like a chore because I really wanted to like it after the countless hours I spent on GTA III/VC/SA. Besides the graphics I cannot think of one redeeming thing about GTA IV. Hopefully they completely forget that GTA IV exists and build from San Andreas instead, because again, I would really like another FUN GTA game.

(after GTA IV, Saint's Row has easily taken over as the best Open-World series available)

After GTA San Andreas every other GTA games has been shit, Saints Row series has created a better open world/ sandbox experience and with Saints Row The Third like 2 weeks away, and me marking for that series I will be playing SR3 instead of a now probable shit GTA game.

I first had a crack at the Saints Row Series with it's second installment and couldn't help but feel how dated it was - as if it was made as an expansion to GTA San Andreas. The Series brought nothing special to the Sandbox Genre and instead decided to jump on the back on the GTA Series, attempting to ride it's sucesse into converting some of it's fans to give its dull and repeative experince (Sure a problem the GTA Series has too but I did the 1st lot of mission and the game did nothing for me at all, even free roaming proved to be boring) a go, the sad fact is that it has fooled people into believing that it is a good game... which it aint.

But on to the topic at hand - of course I am interested but I will wait until more information is released till I begin to get to excited. GTA 4 was a fun game but didn't have that special something that could make me continue to comeback to the game without becoming board of slapping a hoe'. With that being said the game felt like the reboot it should've - stripping the series of it's cartoon-ishness and replacing it with a much more realistic and dark tone - while re-taining the same sense of humour. I hope that is continued in the follow up.

I think GTA V should take place in DC. It does make sense, with the font of the V and besides, how many games have taken place in DC except for Fallout 3?

You already had GTA take place in Liberty City (New York City) numerous times, Vice City (Miami), and San Andreas (California/Nevada). You also had San Francisco (San Fierro), L.A. (Los Santos), and Las Vegas (Las Venturas).

You can pick from Chicago, Detroit, Texas, Atlanta, or New Orleans as the next setting for GTA V.

I enjoyed GTA IV after I got used to driving, which felt more sluggish, yet more realistic compared to previous GTA's. I'd like to see GTA V in New Orleans as well, or a run-down Detroit. I'll definitely buy it.

i like to create custom things in video games and in saints row 2 you could do alot. so if gta 5 steps it up and offers me those features i will be much more interested then i was for gta 4

Are you excited for GTA V?
Not really. I own and beat GTA IV, and while I feel it was a very well put together game with a fantastic story, I think I'm basically done with GTA as it is now. It's starting to feel like I'm playing the same game every few years, and I'm not sure where the series can go now that will truly capture my excitement again. If they can find a way to reinvent the series, I'll give it a good look, but otherwise I probably won't bother.
Where/When do you think the game will take place?
Probably in the present day, in yet another city-that's-somehow-an-island. I've heard some people kick around the idea of a futuristic setting for the series, which would definitely be new, but I'm not sure if Rockstar wants to take a chance on moving their most beloved series in that direction.

Even though I didn't like the newer mechanics that they put in GTA IV, and that I now consider Saints Row to be the king pin of Open World for its storyline connections among the three games and excellent done mechanics, I'm not going to say that GTA V is out of the question for me. I still love Rockstar and GTA at the end of the day is the game that started all the love for Open World titles like Saints Row. However, I can promise you that if this game has any of the same mechanics that were in the fourth one, I simply won't buy it.

Someone earlier mentioned that Saints Row hopped on the bandwagon of what SA made popular... and honestly, that may very well be true, but the fact is that Saints Row has built on that significantly and made it a far greater game... so much so that as far as the PS3/360 gen consoles are concerned, I'd play SR1 before I'd ever pick up a controller for GTA IV... and that includes the online mode as well.

Are you excited for GTA V?

I'm pumped. Unlike most fellas, I really enjoyed GTA IV. It was a more mature take at Grand Theft Auto that, well, made perfect sense. The whole World had evolved, they were making the game for brand new consoles, it sort of made sense for them to evolve. The same old formula never would have worked, in my opinion, people would have complained even more, probably. I loved the Niko Bellic character and the storyline they followed was extremely entertaining if not, frustrating. Still, GTA V will be a day-one purchase for me, and I can't wait for the 2nd of November.

Where/When do you think the game will take place?

I presume the game will take place in the present. I don't see it working in the past, in the future is a possibility, I suppose, but it would be extremely risky on Rockstar's part. As to a location, London would be amazing. I can imagine roaming through the streets of London in a double-decker bus or black cab mowing down all the English ****es. Perfect.

GTA IV was my least favorite of the series (The only ones I count in the series: III, VC, SA, IV)

That being said, it was still an enjoyable game for me albeit not a great one. My love for the first three and LA Noire (another Rockstar game), however, will allow me to keep my hopes for V high.

As for the setting...

DC seems like a possibility w/ the logo on the logo and it would certainly be *ahem* interesting to see what the guys at Rockstar does to make the National Monuments "original". But, as long as it's a new setting and not a rehash of an old one I'll be happy. One city that seems to keep coming up in-game is Carson City (Chicago) and I think that'd be pretty cool w/ the Miracle Mile and all.

The trailer has been released, which you can view here .

Besides the gorgeous presentation, the game looks to return to California, home of the ever-popular San Andreas. Unfortunately, there was no release date in sight but now that we've caught a glimpse of the game, what do you think?

At first I thought we were going back to Vice City 'cause of the palm trees, but the Vinewood sign and Los Santos graffiti hints we're going back to San Andreas! I wonder if the protagonist will be a character from an older game.

So you guys would rather play a game with gameplay that feels stuck in last gen, a storyline that seems like it was written by 10 year old boys filled with "poop humor" that is clear indication that the developer was trying way too hard to be funny, laggy online play, and godawful AI over GTA?
