Definitely, strength through unity has been a recurring theme ever since ME1, and it's quite a great message. Appropriate for the world we live in.
A lot of people thought that the Catalyst's inability to understand this was a failure in the ending, but I thought that it was simply illustrating the Catalyst's underestimation of the alien races.
No, I've not played Leviathan, can't imagine it'll be that long until I do. I've heard very mixed opinions on it. It's either a complete waste of time that complicates the ending, or it's up there with the Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker DLCs.
Eh, I think it's better than Overlord, not as good as Shadow Broker. There were really only two good missions, but the story is pretty cool. I don't think it complicates the ending at all, it just explains it much more thoroughly. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to you.
It may do. I was always open to giving them a chance at redemption, especially Saren. Since the mission on Virmire, 'twas obvious he never really wanted to do what he did, and was indoctrinated. I'm not saying The Illusive Man wasn't indoctrinated, it's fairly obvious that he was, but Saren's reasons for assisting the Reapers was a lot more sincere, than Illusive Man's hunger for power. My first saddest moment was Mordin's death, that mission didn't feel much like a victory despite being arguably the biggest step you take towards galactic peace after that. What about yours? Joker Turning away the Normandy? The little boy's death didn't impact me much after playing the demo, 'twas still shocking the first time I did it though. Thane's death is definitely up there for me.
Actually the little boy's death hardly registered with me because it was only one of millions of children that died, and it was just so over dramatized.
Saddest moment for me was Tali's reaction as the Legion finished uploading the Reaper Code. She was stuck sitting on Rannoch as her entire species was eradicated, and Shepard had to watch. It was just a disaster.
Never used the shotgun properly, only used submachine guns or assault rifles. And heavy pistols actually. What's your favourite sniper rifle in Mass Effect?
I found the shotgun to be extraordinarily useful in ME1, but not so much in the latter two games. The pistol is okay in ME2 and 3, but I find it fairly useless in ME1.
My favorite sniper rifle is the Mantis, or whatever one they start you out with. In ME3 there was one rifle, the Javelin, that you get that's awesome because it highlights enemies, even if they're hiding behind crates or doors or something, but you get it much later in the game. But it's Rate of Fire is even worse than the Mantis, and the scope is shit.
Liara's endurance was never a strong point, still, Singularity's very useful. Being the only one that can down the Gaurdians isn't easy. Being made even more difficult without a sniper rifle.
Actually I find killing them with the sniper rifle is easier than anything else. The mail slot shot is hard, but easier than finding a way around their shield.
Yes, something people tend to forget. Not many game developers would have even bothered with fixing their mistakes. Thank goodness 'twas free, otherwise there'd have been riots. Not really, but you get what I mean.
Yeah, if they charged for it people would have been pissed.
Exactly the same thing happened in my first playthrough, and I'll be honest, I felt like I fucked things up big time. I had to play it again, I had to save the Geth and Quarians. Of course in the grand scope of things, it could have been a lot worse. But after completing ME2 with no deaths, I felt like nobody should have been left behind.
The decision actually haunted me for a few days, I had to remind myself that they were fictional characters in a fictional universe, but that one still hurt.
Of course, very solid. I fell for it in second playthrough... that little cunt did indeed trick me. Yes, although Javik's got a very cynical view on just about everything (justifiably so) he's not wrong often.
Yes, the Catalyst is a little cunt. Hard to believe you spent the last part of the game trying your ass off to find him.
Exactly. I'd have loved to do Refusal and end up winning regardless based on your galactic readiness and military strength. So many friends lost for doing nothing is completely unlike Shepard though. At least my Shepards anyway.
I don't see Shepard being the type of guy to spit blood in the face of his enemy as one last fuck you. He'd be willing to be swallow his pride if it meant saving one life, let alone the entire galaxy.
I think that's for DLCs. But you're right about another Mass Effect game, I think. BioWare seem like they want to do another. I just hope it isn't a ME4. I have trouble imagining that turning out well. A prequel would be best, there's PLENTY of history that you could play through: The Rachni Wars, The Krogan Rebellions, The Morning War, and so on. And that's just shit we know about. You heard about this Retaliation DLC? The return of the Collectors?
I had not heard of the Retaliation DLC, but that sounds promising. I wonder what kind of decision making that game will include, and if you can wind up turning the collectors against their masters. Javiik's involvement with those quests will be especially intriguing.
As for further Mass Effect games... I'm not sure I like the idea of prequels. One of Mass Effect's signatures is the decision making, and I can't imagine being able to make significant decisions for predetermined battles. I also like when all the species are working together, and the only time that would work in a prequel is a Rachni War scenario, and even that will only see Asari, Turian, Salarian, and Krogan (not sure if any non-council races got involved there).
I think I would enjoy a sequel. It would be nice to see some of Shepard's crew mates and what they're up to in the future. It will also be pretty cool to see how the various alien races have decided to honor Shepard. The only problem I can foresee the game having is not being able to incorporate all of your choices from 1-3. You make so many choices in 3 that massively effect (No punt intended. Seriously, it wasn't.) that there would have to be way too many scripting changes.
I suppose they could set the game in the FAR Mass Effect future. That would be pretty cool, maybe they could add a new space faring race and the main quest can be about their attempt to join the Council, and your choices in the game will determine whether or not they make it. It would be a great way to pit the other races against each other too. Maybe the Krogan feel jealous that, despite their good behavior, they still haven't made it into the Council and show some hostility to the new race, and maybe a group of outlaw Krogans attack the new race. Maybe the Turians don't want to see the new race join the council so soon, much like how they didn't want the humans on the council. The possibilities are endless.
