Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

Damn you, you're not worming your way out of this one! I take responsibility for how I was back then!

It is super weird looking back, though. Really glad we moved past it. Like, it barely seems real.

Everything is so different now. I wouldn't be surprised to go back in time and see that MarioKart 64 actually DID win the video game tournament.

Mario Kart 64 defined the social racing genre! If you like Diddy Kong Racing better than Mario Kart 64 then you're basically Hitler!

Sorry, my 2011 is showing.

Diddy Kong Racing very well may have been the better game, but Mario Kart 64, being that it was
A-Mario
B-released before DKR
C-sold more

is considered better because more people had it and loved it.

There, 5 year old argument over. You're welcome......

It still would not be better than Diddy Kong Racing

Being the owner of both that game and MK64 I have to say that the latter was better in every category except multiplayer [3-4 player.] But DKR did have a 2 player challenge which makes it the better immediate choice.

DKR was a far superior single player for me. More depth and variety of task.

Well yeah, it was one of those rare racers that blended traditional racing with a sense of adventure and open freedom. I'll assume you enjoyed the Rush franchise as well?

Never played Rush.

So DKR had better multiplayer and a more varied, more interesting single player?

It wins.

I highly recommend the franchise if you enjoyed DKR for the adventure and freedom that it offers. Other than racing tracks it has stunt courses, battle arenas, and obstacle courses.

I somewhat prefer the cover art of DKR.

DKR had story and plane/boat racing.

And no bullshit blue shell. Though I do prefer MKs tracks. They were a bit more fun.

MK64 definitely has some fun tracks, but DKR's were definitely more brutal. The space levels take a massive effort to unlock and others like the village course require the super power slide in order to beat.

Though two other racers that are always overlooked for the console were Beetle Adventure Racing and Lego Racer 64. Two great games.

The battle tracks were better in DKR for sure. Spent hours in that one ice pyramid course.

To be fair, MK64 did not have a blue shell. That came along I think on MKWii.

I kinda want to try and find a copy of DKR now. I only played it once or twice.

MK64 did have a blue shell. It was spiked. Though its properties were a bit different from the Wii versions.

Yeah, 64's blue shell traveled in a line on the ground and homed into first place. Still a pain, but you could dodge it. The blue shell as we know it was in Double Dash and Mario kart DS, well before MKWii.

I can't even recall the blue shell from MK64 and I wore out my copy of the game. I read after I posted on the credible information website Wikipedia that you could only get it if you were in last place. If that's true and if it was as seldom as I seem to think it was then it mustn't have been the evil piece of crap that it has become.

You could only dodge it if you had an invincibility item. And there's this super weird glitch in the game where if you overtake first place with a star or boo when the blue shell is shot then it will wait for the players item to die before hitting them. It is a rare scenario and a complete bullshit one too. Hence I say glitch.

There are certain special objects that are floating in hard to reach places, like the mountain in Kooba Beach and the hot air balloon on Luigi Raceway, that will give you a blue shell no matter what position you are in. Shoot a blue shell when you are in first and it will reverse and come back and hit you.

Just got back from the Dead and Company show in Boston. Wow.

I never knew that John Mayer had the ability to play guitar so well that he could make me forget that the world is a horrible place.

Off to Chicago tomorrow. See you there, CH David.
