Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

No S.H.I.T, no Barbosa, no Alhazred, no Saboteur, no Saxton. Never thought I'd see the day :(. I know me and RedSkull weren't feeling the fed like before, and I got a job with stupid hours and had to step away (cruel irony, not long after that I got a better job) but I still get that writing bug as well. Just seems like the e-fed's gone a new direction and left me behind, in many ways, not sure if you guys feels the same. Almost feels like too much emphasis on marginalising your character and creativity for the sake of meeting a bunch of criteria, I don't do well with criteria, makes everything sort of... samey. Fit in or die, hit these bullet points or fail, sort of thing.

I think in short the satisfaction I used to get is gone, but that might be an entirely me issue with all of the above having no bearing at all.

I took a different writing path with Ty lately that involves a lot more vague metaphors and probably a bit chaotic writing that probably only makes sense to myself since I always project myself into the character when I write. I know Bagpipes mentioned he understands my writing as he's got a similar mentality with Slaughter, but for everyone else I'm sure it's equivalent to Bray Wyatt spouting randomness without any real payback whereas I'm trying to build to that, but I can't or don't want to just hit everyone over the head with a hammer explaining everything. So with that I'm likely not going to win since I don't mention my opponents much, even by name I try to avoid it. I kinda had no choice at Gold Rush because I was in a championship match so I had to play it for the votes.

I know where you're coming from essentially is what I'm saying, and it does get frustrating when it doesn't go your way. I felt I should be World Champion thrice over the last cycle plus, but I'm trying to not let it get to me that I kept losing. However, I can't keep writing my character the same way forever, then it's just a "standard" RP for me and if someone tries a different angle, they beat me. So I try something different but because it maybe doesn't check those boxes as you referred to, I don't win. It's all a very subjective voting process, everyone has different tastes and my writing right now isn't in that good flavor so to speak. So stuck between a rock and a hard place, I'll just stay there and do what I want.

I do miss Saxton and Saboteur as well. I'm really disappointed that things fell apart for you coming back Doc, I think I had just gotten back on Creative when that was going on, so I didn't really know what was up with that. I would have likely reached out and got things situated then. Haiku up and disappearing like he did really messed with what I was working on at the time, and he was the main contact heading up getting you back involved. I don't hold any grudge with him on that, but he was basically handling that on his own and when he disappeared we were more worried about him then anything else. Odd circumstances for sure and though I'm not on the team anymore I can certainly apologize for letting you down at the time.

Barbosa, come back so we can have a proper feud one day.

Hey, man I'm still around just needed to freshen things up with a new character. Alhazred was getting way too complicated mindset and story wise for me to keep up with on a consistent basis. I have a certain level of protection of him as a character and I think I was starting to deter a bit from who I wanted him to be.

I feel like our run as a tag team was hindered by the fit in to win style Doc mentioned. I didn't take as many chances and go as far out as I would have liked too because I wanted to win, so I held back a bit creatively. Formulaic, adding more than it needs to make it longer, and general references to your opponent bore me to death. I would throw in a promo at a random point in the RP just for the sake of having dialogue.

I still enjoy the fed and I do like the attention to realism it tries though. I appreciate within a show aspect, like the shows themselves should only get outlandish occasionally to make those moments more special and the sense of realism. But I wish the RPs themselves didn't have to be that way. Not a judgement on creative either as everyone has their own perceptions of what is good. Telling someone they're wrong for not liking Saxton is like telling someone they're wrong for not liking Led Zeppelin. Art and writing should always be subjective.

Too long of a rant. Super pumped to see Mad Max tonight though, other than Star Wars this is the movie I'm most looking forward to this year.

Barbosa, come back so we can have a proper feud one day.

It's something of a shame I have so much other writing to do as there are still three major feuds that Barbosa should have had, all of which I thought could be intermingled.

It would start off with Barbosa and SHIT vs "Anti-mental illness" Dr Zeus and his allies, only for the climax to reveal that Zeus was an agent of Ty Burna, leading to BarboSHIT vs Ty and co, complete with another HIAC match.

Then as part of Ty's digging into both Barbosa and SHIT's pasts, he would discover information about Barbosa essentially being the next evolution of Scaled Humanoid Industrial Technology, "SHIT 2.0" if you will, leading to SHIT turning on Barbosa out of sheer jealousy, leading to an epic expansion and intertwining of back-stories, culminating in an even crazier match that the Texas Deathmatch - I think I called it Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD).

If I was on creative I would have reserved writing that match weeks, if not months in advance.

And of course the idea that Barbosa and Ty are the same person, either Barbosa as a split personality of Ty or vice versa, leading to some major retconning and explaining why Ty was fighting himself inside Hell in a Cell. We could have done some serious mind fuck writings to accomplish that as well as going forward. Ironically I did end up incorporating some of that into what I have going on now.

I gotta be honest, I don't even remember who your character was. Isabella something, right?

Mad Max gets a solid 8/10. My big gripe is it takes a looooong time for the movie to get really good. The action starts from the very beginning, and it's fantastic action, and the visuals are good enough to keep your attention, but I'd say the movie didn't hook me until maybe 40 minutes in.

Also, if you're looking for mindless action, keep on looking, because this movie clearly has a message and is a thought provoking endeavor. In my mind it's a movie about a world ruled by the id and a small group of people struggling to restore the ego. Another reading I had is that it's a world where human life has lost all value and humans are viewed as commodities just like the precious supplies the survivors kill each other for.

I really look forward to reading more about this movie as there are a lot of questions I have. For one thing, the world of Mad Max is filled with mutated humans, ranging from a giant man unable to breath without the aid of a pretty nifty oxygen tank, to a chair-bound, morbidly obese dwarf, and the origin/plentifulness of these mutated people isn't really explained.
You're thinking of Isabel Stone I'm sure. But no, that wasn't me. My character was Amber Warren. But again no, that wasn't the character I was speaking of. It's a character that only few have seen and actually made an appearance on Phenoms of Wrestling which is again, something WZCW-related. Like a house show or something I believe? Anyway, the character had a pizza guy gimmick that I could have a lot of fun with. That's all I'll say about it :D

And thanks for the tiny review on Mad Max. Will definitely go see it.

And there goes the 37000th post for no reason :p

MAD MAX WAS SO FUCKING GOOD I'M GONNA BE TYPING IN CAPS LOCK ALL DAY.

They're releasing a Mad Max video game in the fall. It kind of looks like a post-apocalyptic Arkham game but with vehicle portions.

Have you ever played the game Rage? I think Rage was very much inspired by Mad Max, and then this Mad Max seemed like it was in turn re-inspired by Rage.

Oh, shit - Rage! I've still got that sitting around somewhere. That's a good shout on the Mad Max similarities. I suddenly want to play the shit out of that game.

Fury Road was everything I could possibly have ever wanted out of a Mad Max movie, & sooooooo much fucking more. Absolutely loved it.

If I remember correctly, I gave up on Rage after I finished up disc 2 of 3.

Rage is part of that special type of game where you are just flung head first into a world that looks nothing like you're used to. This genre includes Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Bioshock, even Far Cry 3/4 to a certain extent. Where Rage came up short for me is that the workings of that world were not very well explained, and they didn't seem very interesting. Bioshock had a deep sea utopia where art and science were uninhibited by human morality. Elder Scrolls exists in a complex continent of different races, factions, magic, and all the things that really get your sword hard. Rage exists in a desert where there's an oppressive government that people don't like and also people are killing each other. So basically it's like Syria.

There are some really cool parts of Rage, though. The character animations were insanely good, and the AI was pretty creative. I remember fighting one tribe where the guys would do a wall jump move if they saw you aiming at them, which is bad ass. Another cool part is that John Goodman is in the game for about 5 minutes.

Fury Road was everything I could possibly have ever wanted out of a Mad Max movie, & sooooooo much fucking more. Absolutely loved it.

I'm looking forward to seeing it again. I usually don't enjoy watching the same (non-superhero) action movies multiple times, but Mad Max was just so much fun.

Sorry guys, I meant to reply to some of these ages ago;

Fit-in-or-die was what made me write Saxton in the first place, that mentality was awful and I just wanted to write a comedy character knowing full well he'd probably just lose all the time. But now it just feels like too much effort when I'm part of a community with, honestly, a larger selection of better characters and a better way of doing shows. Sure, they're not as regular as I'd like but everything is so much fun that it hardly matters. I will defend game eFeds and AES forever.

It's really a shame the fed's reverted to back to 2010 in a sense. It was a great time and I really had a ton of fun while I was in. Unfortunately, I feel like sometimes the focus on competitiveness becomes people trying to be too "serious" or "realistic" and trying to win by spilling words onto a page instead of having fun building an angle.

Yeah, I can count too many times where winning and losing have gotten in the way of actually having fun with an angle, like the build up to Kingdom Come being a lot of fun last year, and then it got overshadowed because the result didn't "go the right way". And again, in order to get the result, you've gotta tick other people's boxes, which is painfully, painfully boring. Not just write a good and entertaining RP, but have it held against you if you don't spend this much time talking about your opponent, etc.

Again, I can't comment on the direction the fed is in, but it seems pretty widely agreed upon that there's no place for the Saxtons and/or Saboteurs, S.H.I.T.s, Barbosas, Alhazreds, or any of the great characters that made it fun to RP in my time in the fed.

I remember how excited Doc and I would be when we got an angle and we'd plan our RPs for the whole cycle, usually culminating in some sort of grand adventure or parody of a famous movie. I don't think the most fun I ever had in the fed was when Doc and I wrote our Star Wars parody.

I think creative are incredibly respectful when it comes to characters like that, S.H.I.T has never, apart from in my one and only no-show, looked like a complete monster. I think I have Ty, Showtime and Blade to thank for that, since they set the precedent, even in defeat the guy in the cardboard costume looked like a juggernaught. But yeah, characters like that need creative freedom, which I am not sure is available anymore.

This is, more or less, it in a nutshell. If you play for the votes you write the same RP every round.

Hey, man I'm still around just needed to freshen things up with a new character. Alhazred was getting way too complicated mindset and story wise for me to keep up with on a consistent basis. I have a certain level of protection of him as a character and I think I was starting to deter a bit from who I wanted him to be.

Sorry if I put words in your mouth then, mate.

Yeah, this is basically what I am saying, good writing is good writing. I have nothing against using a formula, I know Barbosa uses one, and I use my own, but at least their our formula's that we can tweak at our leisure. This might sound nasty but I always think of set-criteria as the tools of the average. And yeah, I think we played for the votes too often, apart from when we needed to.

I mean, I am really not trying to badmouth the fed here, and I'd recommend anyone joins and/or returns if they felt the itch because they guys do a great job, all in all.

I remember you proposing all that, it would've been glorious.

I think there is definitely room to plug in those "box-ticking" traits that can help you win in WZCW, so long as they remain a plug in rather the main thrust.

Story-telling and character advancement should almost always take precedence and really should be the basis of your RP - look at what your character did last round, what is his/her long term feud/goal(s) and how does your upcoming opponent affect that? Then frame it in an interesting/funny/entertaining way.

Only when you have that structure in place should you look to tick those winning boxes. And even then only when they plug in naturally.

One my least favourite Barbosa RPs was the one where I took the World Title from Showtime as I felt I drifted into box-ticking and almost direct character assassination of Showtime rather than the fun and mayhem the Barbosa character and his allies had come to be.

Bumping this thread.

So I know we've been discussing it a bit over PM's but why'd you go for the PS4 instead of the XBONE?

Agreed. I mean, like when our characters were literally trying to murder each other then not mentioning each other, or not mostly focusing on each other would have been stupid, but in situations like that where we are totally focused on each other and we are booked against a randomer who we've never met before, being punished for not unnaturally twisting your RP to give a promo about this guy was a fucking nightmare. If it works, it works, if it doesn't, then don't mess about with it.

Like I said, set criteria and box ticking is what has led to us having what have largely been considered very disappointing results in the past, particularly with regards to the Main Event scene.

Came down to a few things.

1) I didn't want to trade in my XBox 360, but didn't mind parting with my PS3. I figured I didn't need two Microsoft products in my house, so I figured I'd get a PS4.

2) NorCal told me if I wanted to enjoy Witcher 3 to its fullest, PS4 was the way to go.

Anybody else think that Alhazred, Barbosa, SaboSax and S.H.I.T would make a much better Suicide Squad?

In hindsight Saboteur was probably closer to a Peter Griffin ripoff than Deadpool. While Deadpool is an idiot, he's not a complete and utter moron like Peter Griffin is, and Saboteur had his moments where he was a total dumbass. I also like to think it was more of an ensemble comedy than just Saboteur running the show. Obviously Saxton provided tons of humor, but there was also Garrett, occasional Alvin sightings, people from Action Saxton's line of work, and whatever I named the slimebag agent.

Being that I'm currently unemployed, I've been thinking about getting back into WZCW, but then I remember all the headaches and drama and promptly put that idea to the side.
