Good for you, mate. Never easy to find someone who shares in your interests. And I should know with my combination of interests...

In other news, I really need to stop buying DVDs and books... Bloody ceiling is going to fall in one of these days.

Actually we decided to break it off, unfortunately. Can't really explain what happened, but I think she was looking for something simple and as soon as she realized that she wasn't the only one of us with a complicated life, she got cold feet. I don't hold it against her or anything, but that doesn't make it any less disappointing. Now it's a little awkward because we work together and she wants to just jump right into the being friends thing and I want to get some more closure, but hey, what can you do? I'm just happy I got a girl as pretty as that to go out with me and to know that I can find pretty, nice, nerdy girls.

Looks like we're in a pretty similar situation there, my friend. Sucks, but I've found it's better to at the very least have found the other person in the first place. Just gotta look at the brighter sides.

Indeed. I said to my friends that I'm not used to getting something I really want, so when I was able to go out with this girl I really wanted to go out with, it made me feel really great about myself and I think I'm more confident in general now, which is great.

What happened with your lady, if you don't mind my asking?

We seem to have many similar, esoteric interests.

If I were to offer advice....If you can score like 2 or 3 common ones, go for it. Itll never happen otherwise :lmao:

My advice is stone-cold lead pipe lockdown.

Sorry man. been there, done that. Like six times.

On the bright side, you seem to be taking it in a way that took me YEARS to get down. ....

Dont worry about what could have been, don't worry about what could go wrong either...Just be happy and enjoy the time and experience while it happens. If it doesn't work out, then look back on the fun and how much you enjoyed it.

Speaking of relationships, I just realized today I'm still friends with one of my exes on facebook. A year ago I hated her guts, now I just am so glad I don't have to deal with her anymore. It's amazing what a year can do.

I guess the main point of my post is, at least things didn't have a bitter ending for you J.

Jacob Wirth for one thing. Great German food, great beer selection, fucking AMAZING cornbread. On PPV night we can go get some pizza right by TD Bank Garden, about a 10-15 minute walk from the venue. Boston Burger Company seems like an obvious choice to take you and your clan, though depending on how many people you're rolling with I MIGHT want to indulge in a burger eating tour of Boston... just a thought. And if you make your way out to my side of the Charles, we can get one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life from the Peruvian food place down the street from my house.

I'm going to have to swap weekends from work again in order to ensure we do this right. Where are you planning on staying?

Ill have to talk with my brother, he has all that info on lockdown as he handled that. I'll see him at some point tomorrow. But all those places sound amazing haha.

On the ex thing, my ex is in jail for getting pulled over with a load of pot in the car she was to be delivering to a dealer. Hilarious.

Sorry to hear that, J and Doc.

You do have the benefit of being He-Man's more charismatic and powerful older brother, as well as having an inherently heroic job.

Can't say I am all that bothered in looking mind you. More than happy with my solitary life.

I wish I kept my guard up more like you suggested as well. She just disarmed me very quickly and I allowed myself to really look forward to a long relationship with her.

But thank you, I am trying to keep it in perspective. Lots of fish, it's her, not me, love yourself, yada yada yada. I'll admit there are times where I think about the possibility of us getting back together, but she seems pretty disinterested in that idea. We still talk and she said she wants to stay friends (I've never stayed friends with an ex, mostly because my exes are terrible people), and I'm interested to see what that will be like. I anticipate it will be more Ross/Rachel than Jerry/Elaine.

Yes, there is no shortage of delicious burger joints up here. We could either kick it fancy style or just go to the various local chains. Either way, we're gonna have a good time. If your able to peel away from your little brother for a while, we can hit up a couple of bars too.

Basically, she just graduated so she's going through a big period where she has to adjust to the transition and she has a lot of self-imposed pressure about what she "should" be like, such as "employed directly after college". Plus some of her friends are starting to get married and, well, it's a whole thing. Basically she didn't feel ready to be in a romantic relationship right now with everything going on in her life, and while I personally don't exactly understand why this means we had to break up, I respected the decision and the parting was actually really nice, as nice as a parting can be.

We are still friends though, we text a lot, so that hasn't changed but hey, I don't claim to understand a lot of things. I'm just glad I got to have the experience. In the end, it was a real confidence booster and I got to meet someone new, so c'est la vie.

I remember seeing people I knew completely lose their shit around graduation time. I know it is a big deal, but people quickly become irrational around that time. I'm not accusing her of being irrational; graduation does crazy things to people.

Yes, that sounds like it would do it. I empathize with her to an extent: there is a noticeable in pressure on you once you graduate college: get a job, find a place to live, start making a life for yourself, etc., and it can get overwhelming. I would imagine that having a solid boyfriend would be a comfort to someone undergoing so many changes, but being in a relationship has quickly reminded me of some of the key differences between men and women, one being that we are much simpler than they are and fail to view the world as complexly as they do (which I suppose is the PC way of saying that girls can be crazy sometimes).

Sounds like you have a good outlook, and you never know, maybe she'll want to get back together once she starts putting a few pieces of her future together.

It was a light week for me at ol' comic shop so I broke down & picked up the Uncanny X-Men Special #1, pretty entertaining shit

I'm just gonna keep recommending this until someone fuckin' picks it up, but if you want a good comic, check out Archie's Mega Man series. Pick up the Spiritus Ex Machina TPB. It's super super good, really interesting and philosophical. Also, their current arc is a crossover between classic and X that looks like it's going to be amazing.

Also speaking of comics, I just started the new Miss Marvel series (enjoyable, love the art) and I'm probably going to go buy a boatload of trades for a boatload of different characters. I need to read X-Men: Second Coming since I read The Messiah Complex and I want the Earth-616 and Ultimate Spider-Mans crossover.

Uncanny X-Men is so fucking good. Love what Cyclops is doing these days, Magik is awesome, and I'm really enjoying the team they've put together. Uncanny X-Men vs. Future Brotherhood Round 2 should be a blast.

I've picked up a ton of X-Men trades to make up for what I missed. I especially recommend the All New X-Men series featuring the time-displaced original X-Men.

Battle of the Atom comes out on TPB in early July, and I'm very excited about that too. I read the last three issues in the series, so I'm excited to get to read the whole thing in one shot.

I can't keep up with all the X-shit. Wolverine & The X-Men was great - like, really fantastic - around its inception but got seriously derailed by Avengers versus X-Men and never really founds its way again. Shame.

It's focusing on our friend Quentin Quire right now, but even that story isn't so great. There's some mysterious corporation that popped up over night that is apparently trying to bring the Phoenix back and also has Aksani people from the future and sexy nuns... it's just strange.

Uncanny X-Men is where it's at. All-New X-Men isn't bad either. Also, the Magneto spinoff is basically like The Punisher for mutants, so I'm a big fan.

I just saw that story today. Crazy shit. Bet your ass I would set a trap for that guy, ACME style.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of Boston hosting the Olympics? I cant see it working given the space issues needed to build venues\housing. Plus there would be the mass confusion of the world attempting to figure out the street layout.

Never gonna happen. Not enough athletic facilities, it would be way too crowded, and yeah, we don't have the infrastructure to hold that many people. Plus we're a small city that doesn't have the geographical beauty of other smaller cities, like Salt Lake or Turin.

I dont think it will work in DFW either for some certain reasons. Now DFW has the arenas, but the huge problem I see would be is where to put the Olympic Village & the terrible issue of parking\traffic. Shit goes wrong during normal events or just daily after work traffic, so I dont see at all how adding international attendance would be anything less than a disaster.

It takes me an hour to get from Ft Worth to Dallas in go home traffic - so adding that many people\vehicles to the fold is a terrible idea. Not to mention the public trans system is shit & we have no subway. Arlington is smack in the middle of DFW, yet has no bus system. Amazingly stupid.

Yeah, the week most of the X-books come out is usually a pretty light one for me so perhaps I'll start picking up Uncanny again. The Uncanny special I picked up looks like it was done by a different creative team than the regular book, but whatevs, I'm still planning on picking up both.

I heard good things about Battle of the Atom, so I may have to pick that as well when it comes out.

AvX fucked up a lot of shit, I dropped it till the tie-ins were done then picked it up again but it just wasn't as good anymore so I wound up just dropping it again, this time for good.

Yeah, Jason Aaron left the book & they stuck a new creative team on it so I saw no point in giving it another look.

Uncanny X-Men is where it's at. All-New X-Men isn't bad either. Also, the Magneto spinoff is basically like The Punisher for mutants, so I'm a big fan.

I plan on checking out Magneto eventually, probably in tpb.

Alright (gl)assholes. Anyone else looking forward to this? Keaton has me sold & I really dig the trailer.
