Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

I've yet to come across a nationality besides the British, French or Germans who know how to drive.

The stick/manual conundrum?

I've been getting reunited with my old car over the weekend, god I've missed her and thank god I managed to miss colliding with a ram while flying down a hill.

I've been thinking about that too man, especially considering we had some big plans for October! Looks like we'll have to push them back.
Yeah, but I know we'll get 'em done eventually. I'm too excited to put it off forever.

Life has been on the busy side for me too, my friend. GTA V engulfed me for the past week, and aside from that I'm just trying to make money and settle down in the new place.

How are you pal? Any exciting developments in the life of a Doctor?

I'm doing good! Life's mostly school and work, busy time of year and with the church undergoing remodeling I had to sit in and talk about how terrible the equipment we have is and how much I'd love fancy LCD screens. I got to feel important, all for the low price of having my entire weekend taken away from me for a series of boring meetings! Adult life is great!

Other than that, really not a ton. Normal every day getting schoolwork done. Might take a trip to Nashville in November to see a play and a concert, so that's something to look forward to. Otherwise, it's all work for me. Classes have been hammering me with homework, what with photography, constant papers to write, and German class in general.

I'll PM KB about doing in November. That way it can take place on our birthdays.

Board meetings sound bad enough, but I can only imagine church board meetings being even worse. I hope they had charts that show projected belief in Jesus rather than profits.

Taking German was an interesting choice. It's not exactly the most beautiful language, but I imagine it is a lot of fun to speak.

Undefeated showdown this week J. You and me, one on one for the top fantasy spot.

Sadly this is the one week I don't want to have a best of the best match considering my team is horribly neutered this week. I'm going to need more than a few lucky breaks to leave this week with a W.

I think Justin will be happy one of us has to fall. He has the most total points in the league so assuming he wins he will likely jump up to second.

Get used to the L my friend. We meet first in WZHL and it will surely continue next week there as well. At least you can take comfort in the fact you will have the pleasure of getting the first loss in what will be many for all who cross my team.

I kid, I kid. I am sure it will be a tough fight. This season is going to be a blast. The first few rounds are going to be filled with heartbreak though. If the draft goes like I think, then we are all going to resemble mothers at Christmas in a toy store. A few will come out with what they want, but others will be left empty handed and ready to trade their souls for those pretty little toys everyone wants but few can have.

I'm more excited for Masters of Sex than the BB finale. You should be too.

I don't know, I'm pretty excited about the BB finale. I'm so excited for it that my excitement is starting to turn into anxiety. What will happen to TV after Breaking Bad? I can only assume it will turn into a video game playing machine.

What is Masters of Sex?

I am thinking the same. There are alot of shows either over or ending this year. At least there still is Walking Dead, SOA, Boardwalk and a handfull of others still going. As well as plenty of Halloween goodness.

....and NHL, plenty of NHL.

What is Masters of Sex?

A show about scientists watching people have sex starring the evil guy from Twilight. Possibly understating it a bit given Coco's enthusiasm- but thats the impression I got from the trailers.

I hope the finale is a dud. It would hurt me as a fan. But it'd please me as someone who abhors this sort of hyperbole. I'm mean-spirited like that.

What is Masters of Sex?
New Showtime series about real-life 1950s sex researchers Bill Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan). Alan Sepinwall posted a great review this morning, which is encouraging as I generally agree with his perspective on things.

Some decent excerpts:

"Masters of Sex" is the best new show of the fall by a very long stretch. It's also a refreshing anomaly: a prestige cable drama that doesn't feel like a recombination of elements from 15 shows that came before it.
What's perhaps most impressive about "Masters of Sex" is how sincere it is. So many shows about sex take on a cheeky tone, or a self-congratulatory one. This one features an abundance of nudity — nipple fetishists in particular will have never had it so good — and a healthy amount of simulated sex and *********ion, yet there's never a sense that we're meant to giggle at this, nor that Ashford and the rest of the creative team are patting themselves on the back for their daring. It can be a very funny show at times — among the early highlights is a subplot about a handsome doctor who falls for his partner in the study, even though she won't have sex with him away from the watchful eye of Dr. Masters — but it's also matter-of-fact about all the body parts and all the thrusting.
One of the reasons we've had so many violent anti-hero dramas over the last 15 years is that the business imitates success, and everyone's still chasing "The Sopranos." But another is that violence makes it easy to create emotional stakes. What's so impressive about "Masters of Sex" is how powerful it can be without once involving guns, fists or exploding tortoises. There's a scene in the sixth episode, involving Allison Janney as Scully's wife, that is among the more devastating moments you're going to see on TV this year outside of "Breaking Bad," and all the drama and tears stem from societal expectations and the intimate, specific details of a marriage.
High praise from a guy who's generally on the money. I'm really hoping the show lives up to the promise of the trailer and this review.

This is a recent addition to Netflix instant in which cinephiles give their commentary and analysis on the deeper themes and nuances of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. It's basically a panorama of BS presented by overly obsessive, fanatical movie nerds. I loved it.

Not sure what the director's intentions were, but the interpretations given by the subjects in the film made it an enjoyable affair. One guy says that the patterns in the film indicate the intentional referencing of Nazism and the holocaust. One guy postulates that the film has meaning when it's in reverse order playing translucently over the film in normal chronology. Silly, eh? Well, there's more silliness abound.

I recommend this. The lunacy of the commentary will either put you to sleep or keep you weirdly amused.

So Room 237 lives up to the hype, eh? Asking because I see it's got a 93% on RT, and most of the reviews offer high praise for it. Been meaning to check it out, but I keep forgetting.

I only like it in that I think the film analyzers are so nuts. I guess it's fairly decently made, but I really don't understand what the director intended. Did he believe that the commentators in his documentary actually had plausible, interesting theories, or was he showing the audience how crazy these people are? I don't really know. But I did find it to be pretty enjoyable. Also, just so you know, it doesn't show the people who are talking; voices of the commentators are heard but it never shows anyone.

Ah, sounds interesting enough for a watch. Amazing how it's been over thirty years since the release of The Shining, and so many people are still trying to figure out and dissect the underlying meanings/messages in the film. Then again, I guess you could say that about every Kubrick film.

What can I get in this documentary that I can't get from a twelve year old with Youtube account?

It is quite crazy how far some have taken things regarding the movie. Some of the 'theories' in 237 are pretty outlandish. It is a interesting film though and worth a watch, but at times the overlaying commentary can be dull.

The parts about the layout of the hotel as well as the little easter eggs that were discussed in the film are some of the better parts.

I took BC's advice and checked out 237 tonight, and I thought it was pretty excellent. Like nightmare said, some of the theories were pretty outlandish (the space landing dude was obviously a little insane in the membrane), but a lot of them made sense, like the ones dealing with the Holocaust and the metaphysical nature of the past.

Above all, though, it makes you realize how incredibly brilliant Kubrick was. His attention to even the most minute details of a film is astonishing, and nowhere is that more true than in The Shining. My favorite part of the documentary was when they show how amazingly well the dissolves lay over each other, and it makes you wonder how carefully Kubrick scrutinized over these transitions in editing.

Hell Yeah. Some of what he did had to have drove the crew nuts. You have to say though, he had a clear idea on what he wanted and drove for just that. I assume that would be true of all directors to a degree, some more than others obviously.

Rush or Don Jon?

Leaning towards Don Jon. Though I'll probably see both before the week is through.

Don Jon looks like a good movie that people look at and say, "Oh, Joseph Gordon Levitt directed this too? That's fantastic," but will actually be a 3 star movie at best.

Rush is more of a risk, but I think you can expect some fantastic visuals and a good deal of hot tail in that movie, so how bad can it really be? Seriously though, it looks like it might be one of the better films of the season.
