Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

All these spoiler tags are making me feel like I am sitting between two people who can communicate solely with a wink and a nod.

Maybe it's because I'm desensitized or watch too much movies like this I just didn't find Mother Russia killing them to be all that evil. Yeah killing Colonel made me sad so I guess there's that. I couldn't take the Tumor seriously considering that whole rape attempt scene seemingly was made for comedy purposes than actual disturbing stuff like in the book. I'll stop referencing it but that entire scene along with some other stuff was a hot topic about whether or not it would be in the movie. And Black Death and Ghengis Carnage were pretty underdeveloped.

I enjoyed Billy's parents in the final battle but that's about it. I guess I would have sympathized more with them had a they went more into detail like a certain...um...novel. Insect man was okay, I've been taught to not treat people different because their homosexuals, so he gets classified with the rest of generally tame characters.

I feel the previous film knew what they wanted to do better because they focused on four core characters. Kick Ass, Big Daddy, Hit Girl, Red Mist/Chris. Here things had to be more spread out, which is where problems occurred.

You can have the last post dissecting what I said, I'd rather not think about the film anymore.

So basically you didn't like the movie because you are callous and unable to relate to the characters? Got it.

And don't try to highroad the fact that you have, "been taught to not treat people different because their homosexuals." Just because you don't doesn't mean that gays aren't treated differently all the time, and you know that. He's not an appealing character because he's gay, he's an appealing character because he's a gay man that has fought back against the hate and does so with pride. He's basically like a gay, white, slightly more badass Rosa Parks.

Genghis Carnage and Black Death were underdeveloped, but it's not like they needed to be since they weren't really all that important. You don't see people complaining that we didn't find out about Lorth Needa's lack of back story in Empire Strikes back.

I don't know where you're coming from with the lack of focus on the characters. Most of the movie was focused on Kick-Ass and Hit Girl. Kick-Ass was trying to find a team so he could fight crime with someone to watch his bad. Hit Girl had to figure out the direction of her life now that her father is dead. There was all sorts of character development in this movie, and I don't know why you think otherwise.

To be fair, anyone who has ventured into my Game of Thrones thread will have thought the same thing.

This is true, but our sigs are better.

There is actually a pretty prominent Game of Thrones actor in a pretty small role in Kick-Ass 2. I was shocked when I saw him and kind of doubted it was him at first, but IMDb confirmed it.

I really think Dynamite is underselling Hit Girl simply because he thinks the swearing is a cheap ploy. I think her character was better serviced in this movie than the last. Seeing this bad-ass 15 year old girl who can't fit in the real world but lives in a world where superheroes also don't seem to work makes for a lot of fun and some real goodness in a potential sequel. Heck, the swearing is a great representation of her inability to fit in. I'd go as far as to call it necessary.

Good action in a vibrant, exciting (albeit juvenile) film that resonated with me more than it ought have on a thematic and emotional level as I struggle to come to grips with the "real world"? Yep. Best mainstream film I've seen this summer. Lot of fun. Man Of Steel can still tug a dead dog's dick.

Suggestions that he had Rebel sympathies crop up in one of the books. Of course, such rumours are more likely to have been propaganda spread by the Empire to justify the harsh nature of Vader's "acceptance of his apology" and explain the failure to stop the Millennium Falcon from escaping Hoth.

Ser Jorah and many other GoT actors have been popping up in numerous shows recently.

To be honest I wouldn't have even known that guy's name had I not looked it up on Wookiepedia. But while I was there I read up on his back story, and it didn't seem like he had rebel sympathies as much as he just didn't work well with Vader.

He wasn't quite as noble in Kick-Ass 2 as he is in Dany's service.

Much like with Admiral Ozzel, I think Vader found Needa to be incompetent, although I think there was more than a little wrangling from the Naval Commander over the harshness of Sith rule.

It actually mirrors Stalin's treatment of the Red Army - purge people you do not like or are too successful and then wonder why the leadership of your forces goes to hell.

If I remember correctly the Wookiepedia article insinuated that Vader and Palpatine were suspect of Needa because he had some level of loyalty to Ozzel. It makes sense since both of them were executed in similar fashion after minor military failures (though I suppose Ozzel was developing a patten).

Being a Kansas City resident finally pays off, eh? I am a wee bit jealous since it looks pretty excellent and I'm going to have to be figuring out internet and cable providers in the next week for my new place.

Kansas City has plenty of appeal. We have BBQ, blues and jazz, a high crime rate, and now Google fiber. If we had better nature it would be perfect.

The nice thing is they even low balled the performance as my internet is now actually nearly twice as good as advertised. The TV is great too, the only problem is that with it being so new and in such a limited amount of places that not every channel has signed on so I no longer have AMC.

The only places announced are Austin tx and someplace in Utah. They are setting it up where cities pass grants for them to set it up. It took a lot of money and workers to put up the lines across town and they still have a long way to go. Basically city councils have to agree to it before it can happen.

Putting fiber in is expensive as a motherfucker. To cover our entire area of the state and parts of South Dakota we cover my company is looking at spending $100 million+ to get it done in the next ten years. Not just fiber to the corner or street, we're doing fiber right to the house. It'll blow what we have now out of the water and then some.

Better than Midnight In Paris?

No, but Midnight in Paris was absolutely phenomenal, probably my favorite movie for that year (unless it was released in the same year as Cloud Atlas, it's hard to keep track).

Still, you gotta check Blue Jasmine out. The acting was amazing.

Nah, Cloud Atlas was 2012 and Midnight In Paris was 2011.

I didn't like Allen's last romcom (To Rome With Love), so I wasn't eager to go out and watch Blue Jasmine at first. But I'll take a trip to the multiplex, because I was thinking about taking a chance on the Steve Jobs biopic sometime this week instead.

Haven't seen To Rome With Love, but I can assure you Blue Jasmine is fantastic. The performances from the entire cast are absolutely amazing, and none more so than Cate Blanchett. I'll be very surprised if she doesn't get an Oscar nomination for the role.

The Blackfish and Lisa Arryn were both in an ace sitcom called Still Game; Blackfish's character rounded up and scared off the wee neds but had a crazy craving for Midori. Lisa Arryn was pregnant and gave birth in a pub.

I saw advertisements during Raw for a special episode of Suits featuring Varys and Catleyn Stark. It looked pretty stupid and blatant pandering to GoT fans, but hey, it's nice to see those actors getting other work.

Big Innes.

Conleth Hill was pretty good in the latter episodes of season 2 of Suits. He actually plays a somewhat similar character to Varys - you are not quite sure what he is up to.
