Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

I've made Vince Young into a stud, but not Leinart or Russel. If my memory serves me correctly, the last few young QBs I've managed to turn into stars are Sanchez, Young, and Bradford.

But to be totally honest, with fantasy drafts I find getting a good QB is among the least of my worries. Generally I try to get a solid CB, a speedy WR, a good, young RB, pick up a few lineman on either side of the ball, and then try to get a young QB with a rating in the low 80s, usually favoring power over accuracy. A lot of my offense revolves around 7-10 yard passes to the TE and using the running back to keep the defense on their toes, and then when the time is right I bomb it to my top receiver. I know, it's probably the most unique offensive strategy in the history of Madden, but whatever, it works.

Anyways, if that young QB winds up turning into a big deal, then that's great, but if he doesn't pan out, I can usually shuffle around some pieces and trade for a high draft pick to get a young QB that can turn into a franchise player.
Generally, I get a running back with my first pick (if one of the elites is still on the board), or a defensive stud. Then, I try to fill in a few other key holes on offense -- including QB, where I generally try to get someone who's young and not completely erratic, or I just take a shot at a Leinart or something -- after that, I move on to my secondary. Gotta have solid pass defense. I'll take my chances on the ground until I can make a few moves to fill in the defense, if need be, but I really don't like to get burned by a QB/WR combo.

Yeah, I like to stick to pounding the ball downfield with either a running back, or the short routes to any of my receivers. Hell, I LOVED Reggie Bush in the older Madden games just because that guy was a bonafide star if you used him right. Get him to the edge and he'll get you a serious chunk of yardage. He could catch the ball too, which was always great as a second option when my original go-to route went to shit.

Oh, my weak point in drafting was always my o-line. I would try to get a few solid blockers at Tight End and Full Back to cancel it out, but I couldn't bring myself to waste a high pick on anybody playing o-line. I can usually get some mid-to-lower level starters, with maybe one pro bowl-potential anchor at Center, and then just patch it together over the course of the next few seasons. Sometimes you luck out and have something a team is looking for on the trading block and can get the one piece you need, but it generally comes down to solid drafting and free agency. Then again, you can rip the computer off really badly with trades, but where's the fun in that?

EDIT: I just wrote three paragraphs on Madden. I don't even.

My first pick is almost always a CB, because I know I can't successfully control a DB in any capacity, so I figure if I pick a very good one then the computer will just do the job for me. I generally try to get a top level CB in the first round and then wait a few rounds until the CB pool is in the mid 80s for overall, and pick my second one then. I generally neglect to pick safeties until later in the draft, but usually you're able to find someone to fit into your scheme anyway.

My O-line is generally very strong. I'll always have at least 2 guys with 90+ overalls, and then usually 2 more in the 80s, and one will fall into the high 70s, but I'll try to get a younger guy with good potential so he can turn into a stud. My weak point is almost always my d-line, linebackers, and special teams. I'll generally have one guy in the mid-high 80s on my d-line and a guy in the mid-high 80s as a MLB, but the rest of them will be mid 70s-low 80s. Punters and kickers usually fall to the wayside too, and I'm generally just taking whoever I can get come special teams time.

Corners are really useful, so I like to have at least two 87+ overall guys, with one 80+ for depth, since you have to be able to rotate corners in and out to curb an opposing team's offensive game. A strong MLB and, in my experience, one really good safety are a really great combo, too. I usually get shitty kickers/punters too, I try to keep them off the field as much as I can anyway.

Can we agree that a speedy slot receiver and decent tight end (that can catch and has some speed) are requirements? They make the game so much easier.

So let's break down the evening:

Pros:
1. I got drunk and have sobered up properly.
2. Hung out with a real good friend who I can wax poetic about Kung Fu flicks, anime, and gaming with. She's also hot.
3. Childhood friend was in town that I haven't seen in quite sometime. Got to reminisce with her about stuff.

Cons:
1. Good female friend who was hanging out with me and childhood friend after the bar shut down suddenly drives off after it's been clearly established she had too much to drink. We couldn't stop her in time from taking off and she ignored us as we ran into the street.

The positive side, she made it home safely, but good god my state just made it mandatory to serve jail time for even a first time DUI. And she just graduated from her nursing program yesterday. Talk about fucking up your future at the worst possible time.

Remember a few days ago when we were talking about pet names for cars? Somebody on twitter asked Scott Mosier that question his response was pretty brilliant...

That joke didn't make sense to me until I found up that a Le Car is something they used to sell in the olden days. It's a good thing I have elderly friends like you to help me expand my knowledge of history.

Sorry man, you didn't deserve that. I'm just going to IC's house for the PPV tomorrow night and I have to be on my game.

I haven't played a game of Madden since 2010. I remember the worst injury I had in a Madden game. This was when Wes Welker was in Miami. Returned a punt, juked back, and got knocked the hell out. It was just brutal. I enjoyed all those cheat cards you used to get such as Fumbilitis.

Think ill buy Madden for the first time in about four years this year. From the previews I have seen, the newly returned and improved owner mode looks awesome

That's good, because last year's owner mode blew. Gameplay was good though.

Pacific Rim was awesome, easily my favorite movie of the summer so far.

I decided I liked it more than Man of Steel, less than Star Trek Into Darkness. Interesting that all of the summer blockbusters I've seen so far involved aliens invading earth.

But Pacific Rim was very good, and seeing it IMAX 3D was a great experience. The acting of the two main characters was awful, but thankfully the movie hardly relied on that, and the performances from Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Burn Gornam, and Ron Pearlman were all fantastic.

I was just watching a match from an older Raw in '03 and I just saw how absurdly over Rob Van Dam was. I can't wait to see the reaction he gets tomorrow night in Philly.

I have very little desire to play Injustice since fighting games in general are kinda played out and the only ones that catch my fancy are Mortal Kombat and Marvel vs. Capcom (and the latter is mostly because it's just awesome to watch), but if you can take nearly 2 hours of cutscenes and weave that into a watchable movie, than that game must be pretty sweet.

How'd you enjoy MitB?

Really? I thought it was a good show, with no match being particularly disappointing. The results weren't exactly exciting, but the matches themselves were enjoyable, especially the blue MitB match.

As for animated comic films... I'm not sure I've ever seen one, but I heard Wolverine vs. Hulk is okay and some of the Batman ones are good too.
