Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

JGlass, you're still in Jersey, right?

I don't know if you see these ads? I swear they air virtually every commercial break on virtually every channel. They are cheesy, awesome, and annoying all at the same time.

A pre-show cheesesteak sounds about right.

I am, and I do. It's kind of weird for me to see them because I don't think I fully understood or understand the effect Sandy had on New Jersey or New York City. I was in Boston when it hit, and while we got classes cancelled for the day, the storm really wasn't all that bad up there, and the area where my parents live wasn't hit badly at all (I don't think they even lost power). My mom works at Bellevue Hospital in the city, and they had all sorts of problems and had to evacuate all the patients, so that seems pretty serious, but that is really the most my family has been effected by the storm.

I also think it's kind of silly, but also very smart to capitalize on all this Jersey pride in an attempt to boost shore tourism, though I wonder how much the storm would have really deterred people from going to the shore considering it happened in October, and I reckon most people had a reasonable expectation that the beaches would be open for business by the Summer.

Damn you, now I'm hungry for a cheesesteak. How dare you mention that.

Check this site out to see what happened.
The before and after stuff is insane. Gives you a bit of perspective on what happened.

And at least by me, while Jones Beach is open, the boardwalks are nonexistent. Same for Long Beach, and I think most of the others are the same. And I know people who had damage. They are still displaced. One's house is nearing completion (didn't need to be taken down but needed complete renovation), and the other his house (on the water) hasn't even been demolished yet, yet alone started to rebuild.

Just ordered a new shirt...

I also got the Kevin Steen Enthusiast Panda shirt too.

I finally finished a game of CIV:BTS. Won by space race. If the game went much longer it probably would have come down to me vs the Incas. In the end, I would have won. I had nukes, Capac didn't.

Also, the vassal mechanics are annoying.

Well I know how I'm wasting my last 50 minutes of work for the week...

Ahhhh I love it!

Eesh, as lost as I am when Barbosa talks about his crazy games, I'm just as lost now. As much as I love my Civilization game on the ol' XBox, I don't see myself expanding to the laptop anytime soon, especially now that all my discretionary spending will be going to Money in the Bank tickets and a PS3 so I can play The Last of Us.

The MitB tickets will be worth it alone. A) because it is MitB B) it's usually a good PPV C) you get to see my handsome self D) DB/Cena as a potential main event, fuck yeah and E) cheesesteaks, lots of cheesesteaks.

I would still encourage you to get Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri with the Alien Crossover expansion for your laptop. You'll get it for next to nothing and love every minute of it

Seconded. Never got the expansion, but I still play AC from time-to-time after all these years. Great game.

So I saw this picture today, and it really grinds my gears...

I'm getting really tired of gamers pretending that they're being bullied by the game developers and that their rights are being trampled all over. News flash: big businesses are always going to be more loyal to the dollars and cents than they are to their customers. Furthermore, this meme's suggestions is just ridiculous. Why would a gaming company spend more money to make less money when they could spent less money to make more money? So their loyal customers can keep on buying used games and costing them money left and right?

Does it suck? Yeah, but it's hardly the death of gaming everyone thinks it is.

The last thing I need on my laptop is more games to distract me. I already have a handful of emulators and ROMs, and they're distracting enough.

The best thing about JGlass finally getting a PS3, is he can finally play online with me, Doc, Merk, Sam, Lee, etc.

When you do get your PS3 I recommend buying a PS+ membership even if it's only a 3 months one at a first, it's worth it for all the freebie games you'd get with it alone, some which include Deus EX: Human Revolution, Saints Row: the Third, Ratchet & Clank All 4 One, LBP2, InFamous 2, and coming soon Uncharted 3, LBP kart racing, & XCOM Enemy Unknown.

I thought PS+ membership was free? Have I been lied to?!

But seriously, I saw that PS3 was giving those games out for free, and for the first time ever I thought, "You know what... maybe I messed up by buying the 360 way back in December 2009. Really though, I have no regrets. The old XBox has served me faithfully for three and a half years with almost no problems (except one pesky Live problem that Ty fixed for me with magic), and if it wasn't for XBox I may have never known the video game perfection known as Mass Effect.

Whencompared to the fact that you are going to buy a PS3 just to play one game, this seems like no excuse not to have a go at conquering Planet.

In all fairness it's more like 5 games. And the BluRay player will be nice too.

PS+ has never been free

With playstation if you want to play online with your friends you don't have to pay anything extra, & you get PSN for free. PS+ just gives members tons of free games, unlimited game saves in the cloud, time trials for a bunch of games, & huge discounts on games in the PS Store. It's worth it, especially around E3 season since that's when they really go nuts with the good free games. a 3 month subscription cost $17.99, & a year subscription costs $49.99. It's worth it for the freebies alone.

Much like many wrestling fans, they are most likely self-loathing because they know that no matter how much they castigate the product, they will still give their money to it.

Sounds like most sports fans.

I don't see why this means they (i.e. we) shouldn't be annoyed. There's unlikely to be more than a handful of people that are confused as to why publishers, developers and console manufacturers are doing what they're doing - doesn't mean they have to like it.

Last Of Us, Uncharted series (one isn't all that great by the way), and what else? MLB The Show? Definitely MLB The Show. At least because I need other people to play the game with.

Gamers really are among the worst groups of people out there.

I like Barbosa's assessment, and Justin's point about it being like sports fans is pretty true too. No matter how much the Mets suck I'm still going to go at least one game every season, and likely waste hours of my life watching them on TV.

Ok, you've said you want Last of Us, & Uncharted 1-3, whats the 5th game?

I was ball parking it really, but I'd also like to play the Infamous and God of War series, and probably Heavy Rain.

I don't see any reason to be annoyed since I have no reason to expect anything other from gaming companies. I can understand not liking what's going to happen, but there's really no reason for the gaming community to have this sense of entitlement regarding the right to buy and sell used games. To be honest, I'm not quite sure how this was ever done so openly in the first place considering almost every type of electronic product you buy is not supposed to be available for resale.

By electronic, you mean...? Because nobody expects digital games to be made available for resale; that's the way it's been since Steam's inception (though ridiculously low prices helped balm that particular wound very early on).

But if you've owned a physical copy of a movie, of a music album or of a videogame for the past fifty years (at least) then you've enjoyed being able to lend that physical copy to your mates, selling it to a store or, indeed, buying a used copy from a store - even if the small print says "Hey, don't play this on coaches." Microsoft plans to bring an abrupt end to that - it doesn't take a Marxist to see it's the consumer being taken advantage of here. It will look even worse if Sony doesn't decide to employ any similar tactics.
