Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

I don't want to be that guy, but I honestly don't think Bret Hart was as good as he's made out to be. I like his heel work a lot, but he's never really *clicked* with me. Talented, but not one of the elite wrestlers of all-time -- that might just be me, though.

The Screwjob is a strange situation, too. A lot of the blame lies on Bret, but what Vince and Shawn did was spineless, I won't discount Haitch's role in the whole thing, too. Bret took the feud with Shawn too personally and made it more about himself and Shawn than the good of the title, whereas Vince immediately decided that Bret "wasn't doing business" and he had to pull something crazy out of his ass. He should have just pulled Shawn out of the match and had someone be a transitional champion -- even though it logically should have been Shawn.

I'd love to know how the conversations between Vince, Shawn, Triple H, Hebner, and the Stooges actually went, though.

I think you're dehydrated, you're acting all crazy.

Like I said, nobody was a good guy in that scenario, there were just varying degrees of bad.

That would certainly be interesting, but I doubt we'll ever know.

I've never really liked Bret Hart. The horror!

Agreed. The worst of the bunch is Earl Hebner, though. 15 years later and he's still milking the, "Yes, I screwed Bret" shit.

That would certainly be interesting, but I doubt we'll ever know.

Oh, totally. Even now when you hear Shawn talk about the situation, it's clear that they're holding back. Who knows what really went down -- the only one of the bunch I'd trust to give a semi-truthful recollection of the events leading up to the Screwjob is Triple H anyway.

Sidenote: Thinking about where I'd rank Bret Hart among the all-time greats got me thinking and I'm pretty sure I'd struggle to rank the top 25 objectively. It would be pretty fun to see what the regulars in here think. Hogan and Austin are one and two almost unanimously, I'd imagine.

It is horrible.

Is he? Or does TNA just really love pushing the, "You can't trust this motherfucker, he was part of the screwjob, remember?" angle?

I don't think Shawn is holding back so much as he's just lied about it for so long that he's having trouble separating fact from fiction at this point.

I might be able to name the top 25 (centered on North American promotions only), but I doubt I could rank them with any real accuracy.

It is horrible.

Fuck me, right?

I'm sure TNA loves to sell the merch, but Hebner's the one who keeps bringing it up. I've seen videos of him yelling shit at the fans about how, "they're damn right he did it" and all that. I don't care if it's a character, it's just beating a dead horse at this point.

I doubt it. The Screwjob isn't something you just forget. I'd venture to guess he knows exactly what happened, but that he just refuses to tell the truth. Or, maybe, he was so pilled out that he really doesn't remember.

Yeah, I'd probably do the same -- plus, it's just for fun. I'm thinking about ranking Cena at 5 or 6 (depending on where I put Thesz).

Have you seen the Hart/Michaels rivalry DVD? One of the most awkward WWE productions ever, maybe only second to the Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior.

I saw that on Netflix and almost watched it, but then I just pictured them trying to kiss Bret's ass while still trying to portray Shawn as Jesus reincarnate and chose to pass.

Bret just looks fucking pissed, while Shawn is trying to feign laughter/smiles the entire time. It's actually kind of hilarious.

Eh, I wouldn't know really, I don't really care about TNA or Hebner.

Disagree. If you well yourself the same lie for 15 years you're damn sure going to start believing it. That's not to mention that Shawn Michaels suffers from a severe case of narcissism as well as multiple shots to the head.

I'd put him at 4 or 5 depending on where I rank Thesz behind Hogan, Austin, and Rock.

Yeah, I watched it at Castle NorCal where we both agreed that Bret comes off as a naive mark for the business and Shawn comes off as a narcissistic jerk.

I think I'm with Crock on this one, I don't think Bret Hart is as great as most people seem to want to make him out to be either, I don't really hate the guy or anything but he's just hasn't clicked for me the way he seems to have for most others. I also think he's way to big a mark for himself & the business, & takes both far to seriously.

The worst thing about Bret Hart is how much he likes Bret Hart.

Eh, I wouldn't know really, I don't really care about TNA or Hebner.

I cared about TNA, but it's fizzled as of late. I wanna start watching Impact consistently again, but I just can't find the fucks to give. The Bully Ray reveal was about three months too late.

I can see where you're coming from.

I have Flair at 4, but I can see Cena ending up at 3 by the time he retires.

Sums it up well. I'm looking forward to the next DVDs in the series, just to see more over-the-hill wrestlers trying to get get along for an hour. Sheik/Hogan needs to end up on one of these eventually.

Bret Hart is a huge mark for himself. I think he is great, but even in Canada people don't revere him like he leads you to believe. I'm sure that has been said, but I just got home and I'm far too lazy to look through the whole conversation.

He does have a hockey team named after him.

Hart helped found the team. Not sure if he was ever the owner, but he played a part in their formation. They don't use pink and black as their colors anymore, which is kind of lame.

Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels are two guys that once I've seen one of their matches I have no interest in watching anymore. Not an ounce of natural on screen personality between them.

So this job I am applying for is asking me to not only dumb down the Roman history I teach but to litter it with jokes and pop culture references that 10th graders would understand...

That is unfortunate. They clearly don't think very highly of their students. What college is this?

Through all this chat of Assassin's Creed and what not, I forgot to mention...

Yeah, this is exciting. I had originally planned to do an RP that didn't feature Saxton or Saboteur at all but just one of their NPCs, but now I think I'm going to try something different.

Not actually a college. It is for some company that provides online tutorials on various subjects. Hardly a position that will allow me to retire but if I can make a little cash working from home on the subject that I love whilst still writing books and applying for other jobs, why the hell not?

I am pretty certain that this was a match I had a hand in booking when I was still on Creative, although Funkster or Kermit might correct me on that.

I had also completely forgotten that Barbosa, Saxton and Saboteur had shared a ring before. Just had a look back to seen when it was and it was during the early stages of "Broken" Barbosa after he lost the title. My RP for the match contained this...

However, as I know all too well, for all of their skills and in-ring proficiency, it is their silliness and peculiar antics that dominates and distracts them. Saxton is too busy perpetuating a tired stereotype and blaxpoitating it to charge his chick magnet. And speaking of attracting birds, Saboteur may have defeated Ty Burna but what has he done since? Breaking down walls he certainly is not. I mean penguins… really?

How long and what it might take for Action Saboteur to figure out that disappointment and ultimate defeat lie at the end of their fun-loving, double entendre-laden rainbow is anyone's guess. Perhaps Toyota and I can enlighten them somewhat…

Good times.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, you know just as much about pop culture as I know about the Roman Empire.

Give me a 20% cut and I'll hook you up with all the pop culture references you need.

Are you and S.H.I.T. planning on sticking together for a while, or is that, much like what's in the sub-basement of Saboteur (Saxton!) Tower, top secret?

I was thinking about that yesterday but I couldn't remember who your partner was. I thought we should have won that match if I remember correctly, so consider this personal!

I am more than capable of adding in off hand, silly remarks but actually finding out what pop culture is for 15-16 year olds is becoming increasingly difficult. I mean what do they watch on the TV? It is my experience that they do not watch anything or at least you cannot expect them to watch anything. And as for the music they listen to... Bloody hell.

As for the cut? No deal. The pay will likely be as low enough already.

There was something of a long term goal for Barbosa and SHIT but to be honest there is very little secret about it. If you look in the KC predictions thread, you will see almost all of the suggested long term feuds that BarboShit were mentioned as having.

But then, like me, you think you should win every match! Nothing new here.

I like the cards a lot this week. Saxoteur vs BarboSHIT should be fun, Callahan vs Showtime will be good, and I'm looking forward to Constantine vs Smith. Of course, all those matches pale in comparison to Donny J vs El Califa.

Yeah, 15-16 year olds isn't really my wheelhouse. I don't know if they like Justin Beiber or if that's aimed at a younger audience or what.

They would be a worthy addition to the tag team division.

I have won every match, creative just doesn't realize it.
