Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

Soooo Safety Not Guaranteed is now on Netflix Instant, I look forward to watching that sometime in the near future.

Wow, that movie looked pretty good but I feel like it didn't get much time in theaters. Netflix is really stepping it up with the films they have available on Instant. I watched a movie yesterday called The Nines, and it was pretty great.

Valentine's Day, the only way possible: with the broskis. Went out for trivia, bought the employees roses (and cards) cause we gents like that. Our lovely waitress got the special treatment of chocolates. She got us candy. Nice.

I looked awesome (I'm gonna gloat a little). Red dress shirt, pink bow tie, white blazer, and a pimp ass cane with a snake head as the handle. Plus a scarf. Gotta keep my fat ass warm. Now I await around the house before my friend gets off work. I owe her a drink.

I believe this is the first time I've ever done anything for Valentine's Day. I think some lady in the future may be lucky, I kinda dug it. Or I may be broken, someone might want to fix me.

How do you be so fly, Theo? A cane? You really stepped up your game man.

I watched the film Scanners in my Cinema Seminar class today, and I finally found out where this GIF comes from.

Better the Hospitallers than the Templars. I mean, they were both weird gangs, but the Templars were the stranger of a two.

Now I'll wait for you to explain to me why I'm wrong.

But congratulations on you sister's wedding and your excuse to live a medieval fantasy.

I don't really know anything about military orders to comment on their "weirdness" to any degree, although I do know that much of the bad press given to the Templars comes from Philip IV of France, who was in massive debt to them and used such propaganda to get them banned by the Pope.

I have just started reading about the Northern Crusades which are littered with monastic military orders that caused numerous bloodbaths around the Baltic Sea, such as the Teutonic and Livonian Knights. Should be interesting.

As for the wedding, not really much of a medievalist myself. Antiquity is more my scene.

Far as I can tell the only thing the Templars did wrong is what any right thinking person would do, use a stupid war to make as much cash as humanly possible.

Hope you dont/didnt get too drunk at the wedding Barbosa.

Religious wars, or war in general, is rarely humane, so you I suppose you can't really say that the Templar were any better or worse than any of the other belligerents in the Crusades. I was more getting at how they had their members swear vows of chastity, piety, poverty, and obedience. Maybe they thought that all the pent up sexual aggravation would lead to them becoming more ruthless fighters.

I would not be surprised if the secret/private initiation ceremonies were misconstrued in the same way that the "Last Supper" became the basis for the rumour that the earliest Christians were cannibals.

Not until August so I have plenty of time to plan a Hospitaller world takeover and then celebrate it by getting drunk at the wedding.

In other news, the first proof of my book has arrived. Exciting to see the maps and layout in their full glory... but... it means I have to read the damn thing AGAIN.

It is called the War of the Three Gods. Its about the last war between the Romans and Persians and the subsequent rise of Islam in the seventh century CE.

I'll pick up a copy once it's released, I'm always interested in historical anything and knowing how much work you put into it and how excellent of a writer you are it should make a great combination.

In other news holy fuck have you guys seen the videos of that meteorite that exploded over Russai?

They really are, especially with these smaller indie films. I think indie filmmakers are just coming to the conclusion that if you want people to check out your film one of the best ways to make it super accessible & easy is to just put it up on Netflix instant.

I think I watched The Nines awhile back, that's the movie with Ryan Reynolds & Melissa McCarthy right?

It is indeed. Must have only just been put up online. Didn't even know the publishing date myself...

My name is now splurged all over the forum.

Nice of you to say. It will be a tad on the pricey side - $32 for the hardback I think.

That's the one. It's crazy, but very cool.

Meh, it was bound to happen once I started talking about my book.

There should be a "Dr." in front of it though. If I am not going to get a job from those 4.5 years of my life I am not going to let it be for nothing if not the door stop of a thesis I have and the two little letters in front of my name.

Two letters AND a punctuation mark. That period is serious business.

How many books have you wrote?

And Russia has the worst luck with stuff coming from space. Hopefully my fellow history fan Barbs, and a few more get that joke.

This is the first published book, although I have a couple of published articles out there. Just signed a contract for a second book though.

Certainly is not the first time that Russia has been hit by a meteor.

...and to think Bruce willis was just in Russia killing bad guys, you think he woulda took a second out of his day to apply his asteroid nuking skills to a puny little meteor. Man, Kevin Smith was right, Bruce Willis is a dick.

I do not envy you. I don't even read my RPs after I finish writing them. This would be the fourth time you've read it, right (once when you were doing it, proofing before you sent it to be published, indexing, now checking its been transcribed right)? I hate reading my own work so much.

This will be probably the fourth full read through I will have done and that is not including the copy-editing of certain sections or the indexing, which was more of a scan through for keywords (and is not finished yet).

Dr Barbosa has a nice ring to it.

Where's Coco? I need to say something "out loud" that I've been meaning to for a while and I think he's likely to nod in agreement:

Daniel Bryan isn't the next Zack Ryder; Zack Ryder was the next Daniel Bryan; Daniel Bryan is both the first and third Daniel Bryan. I think that makes sense.

In what regard are you making this hypothesis? Because I am confused on why Ryder is even being compared to Daniel Bryan. I dont see a correlation visually, comedically, or technically. Other than the fact they wear boots and are on the same roster- Im not seeing it.

"Grass roots"/internet popularity, and getting over with it. There were a lot of "Is Daniel Bryan the next Zack Ryder?" threads at one point in time but I could never be bothered to post about it then.

Daniel Bryan\Danielson will allways be > Zack 'Please pay attention to me!' Ryder. Get it done in the ring & you wont have to beg for time or have a 'catchy' internet show to be popular.
