Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

What are you graduating with, Coco, and from where? Because you know, the Rock is the land of opportunity these days.
I don't have a sister to bring with me and breed with, so I doubt I'll be able to properly assimilate to your culture. ;)

And without providing too much identifying information, bullshit combined liberal arts major from Last Chance U. What opportunities do you speak of for an under-qualified misfit toy like myself?

Well the only TV job opening I know about was this one

But the deadline to get applications in was the 10th.

I have no interest in jumping in front of the camera anyway. The job I'm looking at right now is as an executive assistant/development coordinator in Los Angeles. Doubt I'll get it since they probably want to hire one of those right now and I'm not going to be available until May, but it can't hurt to apply.

Now I haven't seen all the films that got best actor nominations, but I'll go through the list and tell you who I'd like to see win and who I think will win.

Best Actor- Daniel Day-Lewis was just too good as Lincoln, and he'll win it too. Cooper was great in Silver Linings, but he played a Philadelphian with anger problems, and Daniel Day-Lewis played the president that ended slavery in the United States.

Day-Lewis is pretty much the greatest living actor right now(And quite possibly of all time), It just seems like a crime of sorts if he doesn't win.

Best Actress- I've only seen two of these movies (Silver Linings Playbook and Beasts of a Southern Wild), but of those two I think Lawrence deserves it more than the little girl. I could see this award being given to Emanuelle Riva just so the Academy can show off how worldly they are, and also because they are all over Amour's cock this year.

Really? Lawrence? She is great, she is amazing for someone so young but i don't think she deserves the oscar for this. Then again, i felt she deserved the oscar for Winter's Bone.

Supporting Actor- I have actually seen all these movies, and it's hard to pick just one of these guys. I have a soft spot for Waltz here since he was arguably the most entertaining part of Django, but I don't see him winning it for that type of movie. I'll take the safe bet and go with Tommy Lee, again in Lincoln. Alan Arkin is a close second. I'd be willing to guarantee Philip Seymour Hoffman won't win.

I've seen none of these films but the sheer talent compared to the best supporting actress is incomprehensible. The only irish film critic who i actually respect and frequently listen to says Waltz deserves the oscar more than anyone else but I want to see Tommy Lee Jones get the win, or De Niro solely for bouncing back from that piece of shit Red Lights(I really wanted to like that film, i really did). What is your reason for Hoffman not winning? Not a Scientology guy?

Supporting Actress- Significantly less talent in this category than there is in supporting actor. Jacki Weaver? Seriously? Once again, it's hard to pass up the Lincoln nomination in Sally Fields, but I would cast my vote for Amy Adams this time. She almost outshone Hoffman in terms of villainy in The Master.

There is a lot less talent here. Amy Adams is a good talent but I think Sally Fields has it for the same reason Day-Lewis has it;it's a film about one of the great American leaders(And his wife).

As for Oscar omissions, I'd say there is no omission more criminal than Cloud Atlas not being nominated for anything. This could be the result of the Academy's clear bias against the Wachowski siblings, or maybe the wacky release dates for the film (it's coming soon, Sam, just hang in there), but it deserves to be praised from the rooftops, not totally overlooked.

Cloud Atlas is a film that I've been paying close attention too. Critics seems to praise it to high heavens or just slate it in an alley and piss on it's discarded remains. It interests me and looks like a good flick so I'll give it a watch when it arrives. As for the academy, what do you expect? Once the Wachowski's were brothers but that's not the case any more. The academy is made up of about 90% 50/60 year old white men that are used to more traditional ideals and probably wouldn't want the Wachowski's anywhere at all near the ceremony.

Two other films that could've gotten something was The Grey & Seven Psychopaths. Also the Raid Redemption should've totally gotten a best foreign film nod. Is there a badass award? No? Well make one, and give it to Liam Neeson and Ed Harris every year.

Ehhhhh let's not go that far. Just because Newman and Brando are dead doesn't mean that acting is. Don't discount Tom Hanks, Gene Hackman, Clint Eastwood, or Jackie Chan. Especially Jackie Chan.

But yeah, Day-Lewis will win.

Really? Lawrence? She is great, she is amazing for someone so young but i don't think she deserves the oscar for this. Then again, i felt she deserved the oscar for Winter's Bone.

I think I misspoke: of the films I saw from this list I thought Lawrence was the best. I especially think that the little girl from Beasts does NOT deserve it because she basically had to act like a cute little girl that knows nothing about the world, which I imagine was particularly easy for her on the account that she is a cute little girl that knows nothing about the world.

I just thought that he was decidedly good, not great. Jones was great, De Niro kicked it up a notch, and Waltz was phenomenal. I think he's just overshadowed here.

There is a lot less talent here. Amy Adams is a good talent but I think Sally Fields has it for the same reason Day-Lewis has it;it's a film about one of the great American leaders(And his wife).

Yeah, and it wouldn't be some great travesty if Fields wins either; she was terrific. I just think Amy Adams was in a film where everyone was expecting Phoenix and Hoffman to blow them all away, but Amy Adams wound up putting out the best performance.

Cloud Atlas is a film that I've been paying close attention too. Critics seems to praise it to high heavens or just slate it in an alley and piss on it's discarded remains. They are old white dudes, but most of them come from show business themselves, and that is a traditionally liberal group of people. It's not like the Academy is the United States Congress. It's probably closer to the Canadian Congress. They have one of those, right?

If you're suggesting that the Academy is biased against the Wachowski's because Larry is now Lana, I'd have to respectfully disagree. They've never given the Wachowski's the respect they deserve. The Matrix was a game changing and fantastic film, and they didn't even get nominated for best director or best original screen play. Hell, you could argue it deserves a best picture nomination as it's held up to the test of time far more than 3/5 of that list (the exceptions being American Beauty (which is coincidentally my 3rd or 4th favorite film of all time depending when you ask me) and The Sixth Sense), and had the academy been doing the 10 nominations it would have been criminal to leave it off that list. Also, Speed Racer is a phenomenal movie that was critically dismissed, likely by a lot of the same people that make up the Academy. They just don't get it.

Two other films that could've gotten something was The Grey & Seven Psychopaths. Also the Raid Redemption should've totally gotten a best foreign film nod. Is there a badass award? No? Well make one, and give it to Liam Neeson and Ed Harris every year.

Yeah, I could see both of those movies getting some Academy recognition, but they were both kind of overlooked this year, especially Seven Psychopaths.

I just called my mom to ask her a few questions about me going home next weekend as well as a cooking question. Had she not asked me, "Do you know what day today is?" I TOTALLY would have forgotten that it's her birthday. I'm a turrible son.

Smooth. Real smooth. Did she notice you forgot, or did you recover nicely?

Got some comics for .50 each at the bookstore. Spawn #2 (first printing), Army of Darkness #1\#2, Secret Invasion #1, Batman family #11. Bout $50 bucks worth of comics, so not bad. The oldest one (batman) is in great shape for being so old. Almost perfect if not for the small creases at the staples.

Who said anything about sex jokes? I don't think they have invented a potent enough beverage to get me to go there. I just send her a tout calling her mom. She enjoys having a son she can be proud of.

Don't feel too bad though. Rumor has it when shattered dreams was a freshman his family came to campus to pick him up for lunch on mothers day. He might have been out drinking the night before and fell back to sleep after they called and missed it.

Well I'm that you, my role model, have made similar mistakes in your day. At least when my parents visited me my freshman year I had the decency to fight through my hangover and meet them for breakfast.

I fully intended to but for some reason they couldn't figure out how to call me back on the phone they had just called me on 10 minutes earlier and for "some reason" I did not wake up in spite of them beating on the suite door and yelling. They still don't believe I was in the room. You see back in the olden times not everyone had a cell phone. Also, when will parents learn that breakfast and college students doesn't mix?

My friends have gotten into brunch lately, and I despise brunch. What a useless meal. If you think you're too good for breakfast or lunch so you need to create an in-between meal, then you can go fuck yourself.

Wait until doc finds out you are percy watson.

I don't get it. And Doc and I have already met, so he already knows I'm not Percy Watson. Or black.

Edit: Just checked the WWE search thread. I get it now.

That is what you get for hanging out with hipsters. The only good thing about brunch is that I like breakfast food and I never eat breakfast. Breakfast for dinner is my solution though.

My friends aren't really hipsters, they just enjoy doing hipstery things. When did the hipsters take brunch away from the gays anyway? Hasn't that community suffered enough?

The thing about brunch is that it's a painfully specific meal. It's not breakfast for lunch because it's socially acceptable to drink alcohol during brunch, which is not true of breakfast. You can also order burgers and sandwiches with meats not normally made available during breakfast. You also can't make yourself brunch, it has to either be catered or served at a restaurant.

Basically it's bullshit that rich people made up to make themselves a special meal that poor people can't afford to eat.

Brunch definitely is a rich people meal although like most rich people ideas there are cheaper knockoffs for wannabes. Then again I may not be an expert because I just found out it wasn't socially acceptable to drink at breakfast.

My Facebook wall is about to make me the happiest man in the world not banging Emma Watson.

It is if you're a CEO, politician, or Ron Swanson.

Don't care, I can get lost in her face.

I've decided I'm going to give my Patriot fan friends a 12 hour grace period before I talk to them so as to let them sleep off their anger and shit.
