Edge's Retirement Is Looming, or so they would have us believe!

Who are They? I have no fucking idea... If TNA has taught me anything about non-specific, general terms for groups of people, then it is this. Nevertheless, it actually has nothing to do with the actual idea of this thread.

On the front page of WrestleZone, a news article has been posted that alludes to a statement made by Edge at a house show in Toronto. Perhaps this is speculation on the part of WZ but to be fair, Edge does state “I son;t know how many of these I have got left”. Now, WZ would love to have us believe that Edge is signalling his retirement and then they can pass it off as being legitimate news. However, Edge doesn't actually say that he is retiring soon in any of the video. My thought process is that he is merely addressing a home-crowd and giving them a moment with one of their home-town heroes.

Anyway, for the more interested of the readers, here is said video:

As I said, I am quite sure that this is juts a courtesy thing on the part of Edge and the WWE. Send out the home-town boy to close the show with some sentimental bullshit that actually doesn't mean a great deal in the grand scheme of things. Or am I looking at this in a far too nonchalant way? Is there something to this and how long does Edge actually have to go?

I think you're looking too far into it. Edge is 1 major injury away from being done for good and he just wants to be able to leave on his own terms. I don't think he's done in 1 or 2 years, maybe 5 but considering he's been around for a bit 5 years til retirement is still less than what's in the rear view. Honestly, who knows how many times he'll have the chance to play in Toronto as well. I think you're looking into it too far but he does have less than half a dozen years left in the tank.

I think Edges time is coming. Everytime I watch the guy wrestle I feel he just can't compete like he use to having so many injuries over his shoulder. He may be one more injury away from hanging up his boots for good. You can tell just but how he puts on a match that hes starting to slow down a fair bit and doesn't seem like hes able to hack it anymore. Rumors going around that Wrestlemania will take place in Toronto next year. If Edge is indeed thinking about retirement then that's the venue he will do it at. But at this point who really knows.

I don't know. Edge can be very injury prone, and he suffered the major torn Achilles injury not too long ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Rated-R Superstar decided to hang it up.

Edge has achieved TONS of success in the world of pro wrestling. He's a ten time World Heavyweight Champion, he's main evented a Wrestlemania, and he was apart of a famous tag team for quite some time. Any wrestler would kill to have these accolades, and most pro wrestlers can only dream of having a career like this. Edge has had a great run. There really is no reason for Edge to keep putting his body through torture. I wouldn't be surprised if Edge decided to hang it up in the near future, because what else can he do? I would like to see him ride off into the sunset, and not look back.

He also has most reigns as World Heavyweight Champion. Not in days but how many times his won it.Thats pretty big as well.

But as much of an Edge Head I am it's close to the time where Edge has to hang up his boots. His had a great carerr no doubt. His put on great matches for the ages and is a surefire Hall of Famer.Maybe not as soon as he retires but maybe a few years after. But Everyone who watches WWE will remember Edge.Maybe there will be a wrestler who uses the spear and when he hits it we'll all go remember how Edge hit that spear.

To be honest, I really hope he doesn't retire next year. I haven't favored a guy like Edge since Shawn Michaels. But he has to do what he has to do if it happens.

I really wouldn't worry just yet about Edge and his retirement. He probably just made the comment about it because it HAS been noted that his contract is up in 2012 for renewal, and if you look at when he started, in 1998-99(?), he has been around for quite a while, and some of the matches he's endured do take years off your endurance, and career. He's seen some of his best friends die, and have their careers end from injuries. I'm sure its not an easy thing for him to think about, but it something that he probably wants to go out on a high note, and try to save some of his vitality and be able to spend time with his family, and maybe try to have a family of his own someday. He knows that no one's future is guaranteed. But whether or not this is true, Edge is someone that HAS made so many impacts in WWE, and there will never be another one like him, no matter how hard anyone tries. There is, and always will be only one Rated R Superstar, forever. I think its best that we just relish this time with Edge, because otherwise, when the time comes, everyone will be thinking "Damn, I spent too much time worrying if he really was going to leave, I didn't get to enjoy this last run of his." So take it all in, have fun, enjoy people. He's living his life, and having fun, I suggest we all do the same.
