Edge Retires

I will miss edge, but to me that was the wrong way to send him off. They should have done a career threatning match at WM so he could retire then and have a big send off, instead of this one where its in the middle of the show and half of the people are in the bathroom.

So you want someone, who found out he cannot be cleared to compete....to compete, and lose in a match just for the sake of a celebration?

As much as I appreciate Edge, he is no Shawn Michaels or Ric Flair. They gave him plenty of time to come out and retire with dignity and as World Champion. That is about as much as someone could ask for.

Edge has had an amazing career and congrats to him for getting out before suffering paralysis or any other serious injury. He has always seemed to be someone who has not let the business get the better of him, but has gotten the better of the business, and this is just another prime example.

Just leaving RAW. After the show Cena & Orton said that Adam Copeland deserves a standing ovation and said that tonight wasn't about them. Eventhough Edge didn't come out everyone including Cena and Orton game him a standing ovation as they left the ring.

Truly sad. :(

Am I the only one that actually feels sad? I know its scripted and I know the wrestlers don't know us but Edge has been in my living room forever it seems.just hope I'm not the only wierdo to feel sad about. Wrestling has been a mainstay in my life since I was a boy and Edge was ..well...a great one. I know Edge won't read this but thanks, I think I can speak for all of us, we truly appreciate you and will definitely miss you.

It is sad to see anyone retire due to serious injuries and the risk of things becoming even worse. I haven't actually seen the show yet (the joys of the West Coast and not satellite). As many others said, it is good to see that this problem was discovered when it was and hopefully he can live a healthy life going forward. From a different perspective, it really shows what wrestlers do to their bodies since Edge has had a lot of serious injuries and after a wikipedia check he is not that much older than I am.

As for trying to do something at Wrestlemania, unless something came up during this speech in reading the article on WWE it looks like the seriousness of the situation did not come to light until after his match. According to the article:

"The Rated-R Superstar had been suffering numbness and uncontrollable trembling in his arms and hands. This is not the first time Edge has experienced these symptoms of nueropraxia. An MRI administered at Atlanta Midtown Diagnostic Imaging last Monday was sent to Dr. Joseph Maroon, a renowned neurosurgeon and professor of neurosurgery at The Pittsburgh School of Medicine. After careful examination of the MRI, it was determined that Edge would never be cleared to compete again, and thus, he is forced to retire."

Maybe I'm wrong, but my reading of that was the MRI was done on 4/4/11, the day after Wrestlemania and the issue was determined at that time. Maybe they had an idea prior to the match but if that was the case I would have concerns about the match progressing since as everyone knows, unexpected bumps can happen and it seems like with the condition a significant unexpected bump could be very dangerous. As everyone else has said, hopefully he can live a long healthy life going forward and can work with future superstars in the WWE.

Man. That was out of no where. It was tear-jerking.
Edge - The Rated R Superstar- one of the best to ever step foot in the ring.
I wish it was a work, but it isn't. I'm glad he got the time he did, and I'm glad he got to go out as World Heavyweight Champion. Hell of an honor.

If this news is 100% legit, then it's hard to believe...

I wasn't expecting Edge to retire right away but he has been contemplating it lately. I'll miss the guy, regardless if I watch the WWE now or not, because I grew up watching him. He was my favorite "Rising Star" back then in the Edge & Christian days. He was a very gifted, talented, and entertaining wrestler that I enjoyed watching after all these years. He deserves to live the rest of his life in freedom.

God bless you Edge and thanks so much for your contributions!

You probably can tell i am an Edge fan. I have been an Edge fan since the E & C days. As i was watching raw tonight and i saw the first advertisement for his retirement i was like ???????? Then he came out. But one thing is for sure. Edge will always be known for his accomplishments and achievements. He was one of the best in history i believe and it sucks to see him go. One good outcome is that now it gives Christian the opportunity to become world champion in the WWE. Edge was and always will be my favorite. My hats off to you Edge.:worship: I do have one question though... Will Edge return to the WWE in a non-wrestling role?

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The guy is a legend and in my opinion is one of the greatest of all-time. You can tell he genuinely loved this business, I am just glad he'll be able to spend the rest of his day's without fear of serious injury or sudden death, he will be forever missed! Thank-you Adam Copeland...otherwise known as....Edge! :)

Definitely a sad moment tonight. Though I wish it were a bad storyline idea, I feel pretty certain that it is not...

One of my favorite programs Edge was in was when he took on Evolution... there are many more, some named here, some not...

He will definitely be missed in the ring but I'd rather him retire than read that something worse happened to him cause he ignored his doctors.

Thank you Edge for all the great moments...

Thank you Edge. For everything, I grew up with you, from the moment I started watching since I was 8 or so, til now, I'm 19, you have been there every step of the way and I have been there with you every step of the way.

I felt bad when HBK retired, I've seen lots of retirements on TV, but none hurts more than this one.

Edge was and is my favorite wrestler of all time. I grew up watching him when he made his start into the WWE and I thought he was a pretty cool character, from being a loner with a trenchcoat, the vampire into the wacky and hilarious man who would get the crowd to do some flash photography to becoming the Rated R Superstar. Edge has evolved over the years. From some guy with a lot of potential into a future hall of famer. It brought me to damn near tears as he announced this, he will be missed.

A modern legend. Edge is one of the guys that got me heavily involved in wrestling, especially with his Spear off the ladder to Jeff Hardy in TLC II at WrestleMania 2000. Ever since I was a little kid, I've grown up watching the development of Edge as a wrestler and his changes in gimmicks have always been a joy to watch.

I'm glad that he got out of the business now, while he can still walk, talk and breathe properly and didn't fall into the trap that so many others have before him. As much as I love him as a competitor, I hope for his sake he stays out of the ring for good and I haven't been that emotional over wrestling in a long time.

Thanks for the memories, Edge.

nope me too. He was my absolute favorite for years and now i honestly don't want to watch Smackdown anymore. I seriously believe that this fridays SD will be the last i watch for a while.

It's not true. It is kayfabe. Why would Edge retire when he has a match with Alberto Del Rio at Extreme Rules? He didn't even mention Alberto Del Rio.

This is just suspicious... very suspicious...

Dude not trying to single you out but this is the 3rd or 4th post of yours that I've commented on. Get a clue. Edge is indeed retired. It's been talked about for the longest time now. Edge broke his neck, he's had SERIOUS injuries. His body is I'm sure constantly racked with pain. THANKFULLY this isn't a Kurt Angle situation where he's resorted to popping pills constantly to work thru matches. Edge is listening to the doctors so he doesn't have to be carted off on a gurney and be operated on AGAIN. Who knows he may need surgery at some point but at least he got to go out on top. And he was able to walk out under his own power... We'll miss you Edge. I still constantly watch his promos on YouTube. Man when he is on...he is on FIRE..

There are a few things that make me know it's real. First, for the past few months Edge has been talking about when he retires, how he is going to retire, etc. Second, and I don't know if anyone noticed besides me but they showed not only all kinds of kayfabe enemys standing shoulder to shoulder but amongst them was Dustin Rodes, not Golddust but Dustin Rhodes, whenever he appears on camera it is as Golddust but since this was a case of an unplanned segment where they gave Edge the mic and go out your way and goldie wasn't scheduled to "compete" tonight he paid his respects as himself. WWE only breaks Kayfabe when someone dies or retires.

damn, this rids us of a Edge vs Christian match. This should've been the Wrestlemania 27 match. Sucks that a great wrestler gave his retirement match against a rookie in Del Rio

Thank you Edge for everything you have done to entertain us over the years! Edge is my favorite wrestler and I love him for everything he does. This man could put on a good match with just about anyone! I will miss you Edge but enjoy retirement. Strangely enough, I haven't felt this sad for any other retirement, not even Shawn Michaels!

P.S. Since you are only unable to actively wrestle, please come back as an announcer. :worship:

What can I say that already hasn't been said? The man was a loyal main stay in the WWE. He worked his tail off for years and years. Proving his worth in ladder matches and TLC matches while in the tag division just to prove he was worth a higher spot on the card. He scratched and clawed his way to the top with his distinct charisma and personality as well as his phenomenal in ring skills. And once he made it to the top he stayed there and built a solid legacy and career only fit for a legend.

I will be honest I questioned it's legitimacy all night until his speech when he got teary eyed and talked about how more damage was done to his fused neck. And he's right because I heard Kurt Angle talking about declining a fusion operation because if you inure your neck again after it's fused than your career in any sport ends immediately. This is no work ladies and gentleman we have witnessed the retirement of one of WWE's most stellar performers and it will be a sad month at the least.

Thank you Edge, you're one of the best if not the best! I've grown up watching you over the last 15 years as well so thank you for the memories and thanks for giving us all the best quality entertainment! You will be missed!

Personally, I would like to see the Heavyweight titles unified and the WHC belt retire with Edge in his memory..

Shocking truly shocking Edge has done things in his career that will go down as breath taking the one that comes to my mind is spearing Jeff Hardy from the ladder to the canvas, winning the WWE tag team titles with Hulk Hogan ( Hogan's 1st and only tag team title ) , being the very first money in the bank winner at Wrestle Mania 21 I could go on and on about Edge but I don't know what else to say but goodbye Edge you will truly be missed in the ring. Oh and to all the people who say it's a work no this is legit do you honestly think the wrestlers in the back face and heel would clap and hug him if it was a work ? this is coming from a person who has never liked Edge from day one but after tonight he earned my respect.

I teared up a little when Edge walked back up the ramp. I'm really bummed about this. Edge has been one of my favorite workers since I first watches WWE in 2005 and it sucks that he's leaving sooner than most of us expected. He was the face of Smackdown.

Looking at the roster, this leaves and HUGE influx of heels. I want to think that Christian will finally get his shot at the world title and become the face of Smackdown.

Thank you to Edge for providing me with a reason to watch wrestling. His match with Mick Foley at WrestleMania, his 2 TLC tag matches at Mania's 16 and 17, and his feud with Cena are 3 of the most memorable moments I can think of in the WWE. Great on the mic, in the ring, and as both a heel and face. Bye Edge, I will miss you dearly.

WOW I was shocked I was crying alittle Edge You will be missed I've been a EdgeHead and Peep since I started watching. It's just sad is we will never see one of the last dream matches in Wrestling Edge vs. Christian TLC Match. I rember when I went to RAW on July 19th I saw Him vs. Jericho vs. Orton in triple threat steal the show and then him and veryone else chase off Nexus with Bret Hart.

Thank You Edge

One of the Greatest superstars ever in the WWE. Its sad to see edge go I will always remember seeing him perform live against John Cena at unforgiven and stealing the show. Edge has numerous great matches to many to name he will be a hall of famer.

WOW, This was a complete shock and at first when I saw it I thought it was Kayfabe. Until I saw Edge get emotional and then I saw all of the superstars in the back heels and face altogether paying tribute to Edge. One thing I will say is as many people have already said I am glad he went out on top. He can still maintain a healthy lifestyle instead of the alternative. I hope he comes back to the WWE as an announcer or the GM if he wants but he really should just rest and enjoy his family
