Coming Attractions Thread 2013

Red 2

Release Date: August 2, 2013

In RED 2, the high-octane action-comedy sequel to the worldwide sleeper hit, retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. To succeed, they’ll need to survive an army of relentless assassins, ruthless terrorists and power-crazed government officials, all eager to get their hands on the next-generation weapon. The mission takes Frank and his motley crew to Paris, London and Moscow. Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world—and stay alive in the process.

No Brian Cox?

Red 2 is another unnecessary sequel, but it could be a fun unnecessary sequel. Fantastic cast, and Red 2 should be one of the more popular summer blockbusters this year.

At Any Price

Release Date: April 26, 2013

Set in the competitive world of modern agriculture, "At Any Price" centers on ambitious Henry Whipple (Quaid), who wants his rebellious son Dean (Efron) to help expand his family's farming empire. However, Dean has his sights set on becoming a professional race car driver. When a high-stakes investigation into their business unfolds, father and son are pushed into an unexpected situation that threatens the family’s entire livelihood.

I always admire Zac Efron's efforts, but At Any Price will probably be another ordinary father/son drama.

Olympus Has Fallen

Release Date: March 22, 2013

When the White House (Secret Service Code: "Olympus") is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning's inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.

Olympus Has Fallen should be a flashy and loud popcorn flick with over the top action. I like the cast, but Gerard Butler's tough guy persona has taken a real hit over the years. That's what happens, when you decide to star in one too many shitty and formulaic romantic comedies, and anything with Katherine Heigl is a potential career killer.

There's a bit of a 90s action vibe from Olympus, which I say as a compliment. When they are sitting round the table trying to figure out a plan and then it turns out they have a certifiable badass in the building, it just made me think of Under Siege. Both of them so as to tie in a Katherine Heigl link.

I have a massive Seagal soft spot as he tried to carve his own niche in the one man army sub-genre, so seeing Butler go down the same avenue makes me warm inside. It looks silly, loud and ridiculous, so I kinda want to see it.

Never really thought about Butler trying to start a new path. If I'm not mistaken, his run as the tough guy came to halt after Law Abiding Citizen or Gamer. And he's going to be a gnome in Movie 43, so yeah, he's probably on a mission to forge a new image.

But the Playing For Keeps trailer was horrendous, and the critics tore it apart. Plus, I couldn't find the courage to watch his recent drama, where he trains some teenage outcast to be a surfer.

Inside Llweyn Davis

Release Date: February 8, 2013

A singer-songwriter navigates New York's folk music scene during the 1960s.

The Coen Brothers usually produce Oscar worthy films. And It didn't do anything for me, but I'm pretty sure A Serious Man received a nomination for Best Picture a few years ago.

Anyway, Inside Llweyn Davis should be worth watching. Excellent cast, and The Coen Brothers and John Goodman usually form a good team.

Emperor

Release Date: March 8, 2013

A gripping tale of love and honor forged between fierce enemies of war, EMPEROR unfolds the story, inspired by true events, of the bold and secret moves that won the peace in the shadows of post-war Japan. Matthew Fox joins Academy Award (R) winner Tommy Lee Jones and newcomer Eriko Hatsune to bring to life the American occupation of Japan in the perilous and unpredictable days just after Emperor Hirohito's World War II surrender. As General Douglas MacArthur (Jones) suddenly finds himself the de facto ruler of a foreign nation, he assigns an expert in Japanese culture - General Bonner Fellers (Fox), to covertly investigate the looming question hanging over the country: should the Japanese Emperor, worshiped by his people but accused of war crimes, be punished or saved? Caught between the high-wire political intrigue of his urgent mission and his own impassioned search for the mysterious school teacher (Hatsune) who first drew him to Japan, Fellers can be certain only that the tricky subterfuge about to play out will forever change the history of two nations and his heart.

Emperor could be an ordinary historical drama, but Tommy Lee Jones is the perfect choice for the old school veteran.

Mud

Release Date: April 26, 2013

Mud is an adventure about two boys, Ellis and his friend Neckbone, who find a man named Mud hiding out on an island in the Mississippi. Mud describes fantastic scenarios - he killed a man in Texas and vengeful bounty hunters are coming to get him. He says he is planning to meet and escape with the love of his life, Juniper, who is waiting for him in town. Skeptical but intrigued, Ellis and Neckbone agree to help him. It isn't long until Mud's visions come true and their small town is besieged by a beautiful girl with a line of bounty hunters in tow.

Matthew McConaughey is really hit-and-miss, but Reese Witherspoon needs to take a break from the shitty romantic comedies for a while, and Mud could be a refreshing change.

The End Of Love

Release Date: March 1, 2013 (limited)

THE END OF LOVE tells the story of struggling actor, Mark (played by writer/director Mark Webber), who is forced to grapple with his inability to grow up when the mother of his two-year-old son Isaac suddenly passes away. As he kindles a relationship with a young single mother (Shannyn Sossamon, 40 Days and 40 Nights), he begins to realize that he can no longer remain in denial about the real-life consequences his choices have on Isaac (played by Isaac Love, Webber's real-life son). The End of Love is an intimate and stunningly honest portrait of a young father in transition between the life he's been working for and the one that's waiting for him.

Amanda Seyfried's in this, that's enough to hook me in.

Admission

Release Date: March 22, 2013

A college counselor (Tina Fey) looks for love with an old classmate (Paul Rudd) in this romantic comedy from director Paul Weitz. Michael Sheen co-stars.

I honestly don't understand Tina Fey's popularity, and I guess I never will.

Lore

Release Date: February 8, 2013 (limited)

The long-awaited follow-up to her exquisite Somersault, Australian director Cate Shortland's adaptation of the novel The Dark Room by Rachel Seiffert is a sensual and complex story that explores the tribulations faced by the young in the aftermath of World War II. When their Nazi SS parents are taken into Allied custody, five siblings are left to fend for themselves. Teenaged Lore, the oldest, takes charge, and the children set out to join their grandmother in Hamburg, some 900 km away. Along the arduous journey, the children encounter a populace suffering from postwar denial and deprivation, and for the first time are exposed to the reality and consequences of their parents' actions. With food hard to come by, and the journey becoming ever more dangerous, the children meet Thomas, a young Jewish survivor who helps them negotiate their way through tricky situations. Lore is both repulsed by and attracted to Thomas. All that she has been taught leads her to believe that he is the enemy, but his industriousness, generosity and physicality prove alluring. A coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of a changing world, Lore shows new life emerging out of darkness with great intelligence and subtlety.

Amazing trailer.

S-V/H/S

Searching for a missing student, two private investigators break into his abandoned house and find another collection of mysterious VHS tapes. In viewing the horrific contents of each cassette, they realize there may be terrifying motives behind the student's disappearance.

No release date, but S-V/H/S will probably receive a VERY limited run at the theaters, or a straight-to-video release.

V/H/S didn't blow me away. In fact, it was kind of boring most of the time. The sequel could be okay, but I just see more of the same ordinary crap from the first film in this trailer.

Upside Down

Release Date: March 15 ,2013 (limited)

Two star-crossed lovers navigate their way through a forbidden relationship in two cities that exist opposite one another in this Studio 37 production.

The story is weak and full of plot holes, but Upside Down is loaded with breathtaking visuals.

Second trailer for Side Effects:

Bloody Disgusting.com is reporting the Evil Dead remake DID receive an NC-17 rating upon submission. Of course, to make it into theaters and sell more tickets, they had to cut it down to an R rating. And I'm not 100% sure, but I think Cinemark has a very strict policy against showing any NC-17 rated films. Personally, this is good news for me, because I enjoy going to Cinemark more. The closet Regal theater near me is a fucking hole in the wall and a dump, and I haven't been there in years.

All in all, this really doesn't surprise me, because both of the red band trailers were beyond extreme and gross. Although, I'm not too worried. They'll give us the uncut version of the film on DVD and Blu-Ray, so bloodthirsty fans like myself won't miss out on the nasty stuff.

After the announcement of an R rating for the Evil Dead remake, Fede Alvarez tweeted this last night:

The R rated will have ALL the stuff you are seeing in the trailers. Trust me, You haven't seen a harder R rated film than ours...

Fantastic news, and I'm glad I'll be able to see the tongue cutting scene on the big screen.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Release Date: March 15, 2013

Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt's growing ego. But lately the duo's greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they've grown to loathe each other. Facing cutthroat competition from guerilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show looks stale. But there's still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act-both onstage and off-if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place.

Alan Arkin is the ideal choice for his character, and Carell has settled into a good niche as the nerdy goofball. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone should be a fun comedy flick, and I'm looking forward to seeing Jim Carrey in this film, but I can't say the same thing about Kick Ass 2.

So according to Bruce Campbell's Twitter, the release date for the Evil Dead remake changed:

The world cannot wait. The Evil Dead remake launches one week earlier! 4/5/13. You demanded it - you got it!

And the release date for The Heat starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy was pushed back to June 28, and The Heat will go head to head with Kick Ass 2 on that day.

The Brass Teapot

Release Date: April 5, 2013 (limited)

The Brass Teapot is a modern fable about money and the meaning of the American dream. Based on the comic book, The Brass Teapot is a feature film about John (Michael Angarano) and Alice (Juno Temple), who live in small down America. They are in their 20's, married, very much in love and broke. Once voted "Most Likely to Succeed," Alice struggles to make ends meet while her friends enjoy the good life. Her husband John, neurotic and riddled with phobias, just wants to get the bills paid. But an accident leads them to a roadside antique shop where Alice is spontaneously drawn to a mysterious brass teapot. It isn't long before they realize that this is no ordinary teapot and that perhaps they have found the answer to all of their financial woes. The Brass Teapot is a magical comedy that reminds us to be careful what we wish for.

I recognize Juno Temple's face, and I know I've seen her other films, but for the life of me I can't remember anything about her. Recently enough, she was Anne Hathaway's sidekick in The Dark Knight Rises, but she's not something to remember in that film.

Anyway, I like the premise for The Brass Teapot. It's eccentric and kooky, and who knows, and The Brass Teapot could be one of the more unique comedies this year.

I almost posted this in the old Coming Attractions thread, but I hept forgetting about it.

The ABCs Of Death

Release Date: March 8, 2013 (limited)

Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die. The ABC's OF DEATH is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world's leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children's educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters; each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death. Provocative, shocking, funny and ultimately confrontational, THE ABC's OF DEATH is the definitive vision of modern horror diversity.

The ABCs Of Death actually received various releases on VOD platforms yesterday, but it comes to theaters in March.

Well this concept is pretty fucking ******ed. So they're just going to show a bunch of torture porn shorts from different directors in an attempt to pull some squirmy reactions out of the audience? I haven't seen it yet, but The ABCs Of Death sounds like the Movie 43 of horror. Yeah, no thanks.

Spring Breakers

Release Date: March 29, 2013

:disappointed:

Why James Franco? WHY?

This looks like trash. Not fun trash, just trash. A group of women running around in bikinis and reeking havoc during spring break sounds like a fun idea, but this trailer is just horrible.

DUDE?!?!?! Do you who Harmony Korine is?!?!?!?! Look him up, look at this cast, and then look at the trailer again. After doing all this, you'll realize why Franco did this film and why you HAVE to see it.

Also, if Korine could've gotten Miley Cyrus to star in this, I would've pooped my pants out of sheer joy.

DUDE?!?!?! Do you who Harmony Korine is?!?!?!?! Look him up, look at this cast, and then look at the trailer again. After doing all this, you'll realize why Franco did this film and why you HAVE to see it.

I've heard the name before, but I haven't followed or seen any of his work, so yeah, I'll have to go to Wikipedia or IMBD to look him up. I just want to see more of 127 Hours James Franco, but I'll do my research and watch the trailer again.

Also, kind of shocked to see Vanessa Hudgens in this. I thought she was one of the "good girls" in Hollywood, considering the High School Musical stuff and ties to Disney.

Also, if Korine could've gotten Miley Cyrus to star in this, I would've pooped my pants out of sheer joy.

:lmao:

Apologies if this has been posted before, but I'm quite hyped for seeing this when its released. The trailer just gives off a lot of good signals to me; specifically with the tone, the cast and director.

It looks spectacular, bright and vibrant which you tend to expect from Baz Luhrman. One of the things in the book I really enjoyed was how Gatsby was such an unknown element to those that surrounded him at his parties as they were distracted by how grand and over the top they were.

DiCaprio as Gatsby is a great choice, but whats even better is having his real life chum Tobey Maguire play the role of Nick, who goes through a whole range of emotions as he discovers more and more about Gatsby.
I'm not completely sold on Joel Edgerton as Tom as I believe he's written as quite a large and intimidating figure, while Joel and DiCaprio seem to be of a similar size.

I probably posted The Great Gatsby trailer in the old thread, but I'm not sure. Looks like a great film, and I really want to see it in 3D. But I was bummed out when they bumped it all the way to this summer. If I remember correctly, Warner Bros. backed away from the Christmas release date (May 10 is the new date), because they were scared off by the potential slaughter from competing with Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Hobbit.

Also, this trailer is kind of bittersweet, because I don't know if you heard about it or not, but DiCaprio is supposed to take a break from acting...a long break. So unless I'm missing something, The Great Gatsby and The Wolf Of Street are the last films we'll see from Leo until further notice.

Aw what!? I did not know this :disappointed: any idea what the reason for his break is? He has had quite a busy schedule in the last few years and I highly doubt he will be short of cash but it still kinda sucks.

I might be tempted to see Gatsby in 3D too, though it doesn't look like it will sink or swim depending on what format it's shown in.

Can't remember the specifics, but yeah, he wants to take a break because he's so burnt out from acting. He probably didn't have enough breathing room between Django, Gatsby, and The Wolf Of Wall Street, so he just needs a rest. Plus, he's determined to go on some good will mission as an environmentalist. This surprised me, because I didn't know about Leo's dedication to saving the environment.

EDIT: found the article: http://www.thenews.com.pk/article-84336-Leonardo-DiCaprio-to-take-long-break

The Jeffery Dahmer Files

Release Date: February 15, 2013 (limited/VOD releases)

Chris James Thompson’s Dahmer Files is An experimental documentary film that uses archival footage, interviews, and fictionalized scenarios to tell the story of the people around Jeffrey Dahmer during the summer of his arrest in 1991.

Nothing will ever top Jeremy Renner's haunting and absorbing performance in Dahmer 2002 (probably the best performance of his career), but The Jeffery Dahmer files won't be a traditional biopic. It's going to be those docudramas with real-life footage and reenactments, and I'll keep eye on this one for the near future.

Would You Rather

Release Date: February 15, 2013 (limited release/VOD releases)

In the wake of her parent's death, Iris (Brittany Snow) struggles to make ends meet while caring for her terminally ill younger brother. Shepard Lambrick (Jeffrey Combs), a seemingly philanthropic aristocrat, expresses an interest in helping them. When he invites her to an exclusive dinner party, she accepts. Also attending the dinner party are seven more desperate individuals. They soon find themselves trapped in Lambrick's mansion and forced to play a sadistic game of Would You Rather, where the winner will be awarded untold amounts of money. As the game progresses, the dilemmas Iris and the other players face grow increasingly deadly.

Sasha Grey is in this???? Interesting. Very interesting.

I like the concept for this film, but it's IFC, so it's going to be a very, very, VERY limited theatrical release, but I'll give it a try somewhere down the line.

Byzantium

On the run for murder, two young “sisters” arrive penniless at an English seaside town. Clara is a fiercely modern woman who has her eyes on the future and no time for the past. Teenager Eleanor is shy and innocent. Yet they both hide the same secrets: they are really mother and daughter, and they are both … vampires!

No release dates yet, but Byxantium is expected to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival this year, and IFC snagged the distribution rights, so when it hits theaters, it'll be a limited release.

Yeah, I'm all in for this. Gemma Arterton and vampires? That's enough to hook me in.

The Lords Of Salem

Release Date: April 19, 2013

From the singular mind of horror maestro Rob Zombie comes a chilling plunge into a nightmare world where evil runs in the blood. The Lords of Salem tells the tale of Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a radio station DJ living in Salem, Massachusetts, who receives a strange wooden box containing a record, a “gift from the Lords.” Heidi listens, and the bizarre sounds within the grooves immediately trigger flashbacks of the town’s violent past. Is Heidi going mad, or are the “Lords of Salem” returning for revenge on modern-day Salem?

I didn't seen any conformation on it, but I'm pretty sure The Lords Of Salem will receive a limited release, because Anchor Bay has the distribution rights.

Wow, this trailer actually tops the levels of creepiness in the first the trailer. Then again, it's Rob Zombie, so you have to expect some sick and twisted stuff. Definitely looking forward to this, and The Lords Of Salem is my #1 pick for the most anticipated horror film in 2013.

Final Girl

Loner Veronica is new to school, shy and vulnerable the perfect target for a group of teenage boys who lure girls into the woods to hunt and kill them for sport. It’s only after they get her alone that she turns the tables on them, escaping and revealing she’s armed and knows how to defend herself. Little do they know, Veronica is an assassin-in-training, and she’s chosen killing these boys as her final test. When the dust clears, Veronica will find out if she can be the final girl these boys ever have a chance to hurt.

Tyler Shields came up with the idea to show you the ENTIRE movie from beginning to end in this trailer. He deserves credit, because it's a bold and gutsy move, and it's a cool concept. BUT when you actually see it, the trailer is just horrible.

Anyway, Final Girl doesn't have any release dates yet, but if it receives a theatrical run, I'm pretty sure it'll be short and very limited, and Final Girl will hit DVD and Blu-Ray soon enough. I dunno. I might take a chance on this, but Final Girl looks like some bizarre and twisted remake for I Spit On Your Grave, and the movie poster is clearly paying tribute to the original film.

Room 237

Release Date: March 29, 2013 (limited)

After the box office failure of Barry Lyndon, Stanley Kubrick decided to embark on a project that might have more commercial appeal. The Shining, Stephen King’s biggest critical and commercial success yet, seemed like a perfect vehicle. After an arduous production, Kubrick’s film received a wide release in the summer of 1980; the reviews were mixed, but the box office, after a slow start, eventually picked up. End of story? Hardly. In the 30 years since the film’s release, a considerable cult of Shining devotees has emerged, fans who claim to have decoded the film’s secret messages addressing everything from the genocide of Native Americans to a range of government conspiracies. Rodney Ascher’s wry and provocative Room 237 fuses fact and fiction through interviews with cultists and scholars, creating a kaleidoscopic deconstruction of Kubrick’s still-controversial classic.

GREAT trailer. It's simple, but effective, and this trailer for Room 237 grabs your attention. They did a nice job of paying homage to Kubrick's Shining and the famous elevator scene here. I'm interested in this documentary, but I'll have to wait for the DVD, because it's IFC.

Maniac

Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank (Wood) is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.

Maniac will be released in the UK on March 15, but this film doesn't have any US release dates at this time. And the red band trailers have nudity, but they're on YouTube.

Elijah Wood is the right the man for this role. I enjoy evil and sadistic Elijah Wood (i.e. his Kevin character from Sin City) more than Frodo Elijah Wood, or Green Street Hooligans Elijah Wood. The Maniac remake looks good so far, BUT Alexandre Aja is a co-writer for the screen play, and his presence scares me. Aja co-wrote the screenplay for Haute Tension/High Tension/Switchblade Romance. A film that features one of the most illogical and preposterous twists you'll ever see, and to top it off Aja is a producer. Plus, he's bringing Grégory Levasseur with him (the other man, who co-wrote High Tension).

Anyway, Bloody Disgusting already dubbed the Maniac remake as a modern day horror classic, and they're not backing down from this stance at all. I have a hard time buying into that claim. Then again, I haven't watched the movie yet, but I'm not going into this film with unrealistic expectations.

The Numbers Station

Release Date: April 26, 2013

Emerson (Cusack), a disgraced black ops agent, is tasked with a dead-end job protecting Katherine (Akerman), the code operator for a small CIA broadcast station in the middle of the British countryside. Emerson's mission is simple: protect Katherine. Keep her safe and keep her secure.

Under attack from a group of unknown, but lethal aggressors with only a recorded message from the previous broadcaster's bodyguard to go on, Emerson and Katherine find themselves in a life-or-death struggle against a resolute enemy - with the station compromised, an unclear target and no escape.

Meh. The Numbers Station looks like an ordinary thriller, but I might give it a try. John Cusack hasn't done anything interesting in years, though. If I'm not mistaken, 2012 was Cusack's last box office success. He's planning to star in and produce (and write, I think) a biopic about Rush Limbaugh, but I can't think of an upside for this potential project.

The Company You Keep

Release Date: April 5, 2013

Jim Grant (Redford) is a widowed single father and attorney living in Albany. What none of his friends or clients know is that Jim was once a member of the activist/terrorist organization the Weather Underground. Wanted for robbery and the murder of a security guard, Jim has been in hiding for more than thirty years. When another former Weatherman (Susan Sarandon) turns herself in to the FBI, Ben Shepard (Shia LaBeouf), an aggressive young journalist, starts sniffing around for leads. He gradually finds his way to Jim, not suspecting that this seemingly upright citizen is himself a former militant activist. Concerned that Ben will eventually discover his true identity, Jim flees, though a safe harbour may prove difficult to find.

So far I'm enjoying post-Transformers Shia LaBeouf, but he hasn't done anything to blow me away. Lawless was entertaining, but Tom Hardy was the true star of that cast, and you can make a case for Jessica Chastain.

Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing Robert Redford's return to the big screen more than LaBeouf. The Company You Keep could be okay, but this trailer is dull.

The Internship

Release Date: June 7, 2013

Billy (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Owen Wilson) are salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship at Google, along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

I guess they're trying to stir up some Wedding Crashers nostalgia with the duo of Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. The premise doesn't interest me at all, but I might watch The Internship on DVD.

The Conjuring

Release Date: July 19, 2013

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. "The Conjuring" tells the true story of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga), world renowned paranormal investigators, who were called to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most horrifying case of their lives.

I will never forgive Lili Taylor for staring in The Haunting, but James Wan is directing, so I can't miss this one.

Erased

Release Date: May 10, 2013 (limited)

When ex-CIA agent Ben Logan discovers that he and his daughter have been marked for termination as part of a wide-reaching international conspiracy, a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse ensues as Logan tries to outsmart his hunters and uncover the truth.

Erased looks like another ordinary espionage thriller. I like Aaorn Eckhart, but I'm not watching Erased in theaters.

The latest trailer for Spring Breakers:

The Maniac remake starring Elijah Wood will receive a limited US release date on June 21 in theaters and various VOD platforms.

The Hangover Part III

Release Date: May 24, 2013

"The Hangover Part III" is the third and final film in director Todd Phillips' record-shattering comedy franchise. This time, there's no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.

The Hangover Part II really didn't do anything for me, at all. I thought it was a very underwhelming and lazy film. They mimicked the same scenarios from the first film step by step, and Bangkok was a just different setting. Then again, I didn't enjoy the original Hangover as much as others, and it's one of the most (if not the most) overrated comedies I've seen in years.

But Hangover III could be okay, I guess. And the scene with Zach Galifianakis and Melissa McCarthy did bring a good laugh out of me.

Antiviral

Release Date: April 12, 2013 (limited theatrical & VOD releases)

Syd March (Landry Jones) is an employee at The Lucas Clinic – a company that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to fans who wish to fulfil their obsessive desire for real intimacy with their idols. As well as working for them, Syd also supplements his income by smuggling viruses out of the clinic in his own body in order to sell them on the black market. Constantly ill and losing his edge, Syd becomes careless and infects himself with an unusual virus carried by superstar Hannah Geist (Gadon).

I'm skeptical of ANYTHING with Malcolm McDowell now a days, but this trailer is really creepy and kind of gross. Brandon Croneberg will have some big shoes to fill, but drawing any kind of comparisons to his father's work would be unfair, especially after one film.

Much Ado About Nothing

Release Date: June 21, 2013

Leonato (Clark Gregg), the governor of Messina, is visited by his friend Don Pedro (Reed Diamond), who is returning from a victorious campaign against his rebellious brother Don John (Sean Maher). Accompanying Don Pedro are two of his officers: Benedick (Alexis Denisof) and Claudio (Fran Kranz). While in Messina, Claudio falls for Leonato’s daughter Hero (Jillian Morgese), and Benedick verbally spars with Beatrice (Amy Acker), the governor’s niece. The budding love between Claudio and Hero prompts Don Pedro to arrange, with Leonato, their marriage. In the days leading up to the ceremony, Don Pedro, with the help of Leonato, Claudio and Hero, attempts to sport with Benedick and Beatrice in an effort to trick the two into falling in love. Meanwhile, the villainous Don John, with the help of his allies Conrade (Riki Lindhome) and Borachio (Spencer Treat Clark), plots against the happy couple, using his own form of trickery to try to destroy the marriage before it begins. A series of comic and tragic events may continue to keep the two couples from truly finding happiness, but then again perhaps love may prevail.

Anything with Joss Whedon's name attached to it is going to receive a good amount of buzz, and earlier reviews for Much Ado About Nothing were positive for the most part.
