Books

800 pages through A Dance With dragons. I can see why people dislike it, it's very slow paced and is easily my least favorite of the books. Once I finish this, I will be starting Malazan, Book of the Fallen, a 10 book fantasy series. I'm excited.

I think the final few chapters of ADWD did enough for me to rank it higher than AFFC but they both suffer from having to deal with the fall-out and ferocious pace of the first 3 books. Daenarys' chapters started to become more and more tedious throughout the last 2 books as each chapter seems to end on some plan of action being decided or a statement of intent being declared, only for the follow-up chapter to focus on her wandering around pining for some warrior's weapon.

Jon Snow and Arya's chapters were always good places to land though and although it feels strange to say it now, I even started to miss Sansa's stuff after what takes place in the Eyrie.

I love Sansa, but felt like Jon's chapters were the same thing every single time. Every Jon chapter revolved around him brooding over some decision he must make and talking about how cautious he is around Melisandre. I'm indifferent to Arya and Tyrion.

Dany's chapters were refreshing at the start of the book, and continued to be until
the marriage with Hizdahr. It started to get repetitive, but picked up once she re-opened the fighting pits.
My favorite characters are Jaime and Cersei, and I feel like that is why this book has felt slow to me. AFFC had a ton of Jaime and Cersei chapters, and that is why I really enjoyed it. I can see why people disliked AFFC though, it did suffer from the same slow pace as ADWD, but really, it's expected. These were filler books to set up the major events to come. They were never meant to really break any ground, they're just used to as setups. I'm expecting big things from the final two books.

Have to read Absalom, Absalom for class. It's so very very dense. But I'm putting that on the back burner until I'm done studying for this Poetry midterm I have on Thursday.

I've been on a kick about real, great American authors lately. I feel like we as a country have been want for them, and it's sad. I'm re-reading The Great Gatsby right now, and I'm going to go read my collection of Hemingway short stories right after that.

Oh, and if unofficial books count, I'm currently editing my friend's manuscript on top of going on a third year of working on my own. Well, that one started as a book then ballooned into six. So I haven't spent three years on one book as much as three years on a gigantic concept that started out as one book.

Hey, you motherfuckers like books?

Check out this badass motherfucking shit right here, ******.

What's that? Six books you can pay what you want for? Beat the average (which is about what you'd pay for a new release anyway) and you get thirteen books?

Oh, shit yes, bitches.
