Anime/Manga Discussion

I started watching it last year, saw there's 34 million episodes, figured I'd never finish it and stopped watching. Not that it's a bad show, I actually really enjoyed it, I just don't have time to watch all those episodes and still watch other things consistently.

Exactly. It's the perfect undertaking for someone who wants to watch something longer and is bored with the shorter series. I picked up a new series called Freezing, and even though the manga is awesome the anime only has 12 episodes.

While I do appreciate longer series in the vein of One Piece, I can understand why a series that has gone on as long as it has could be intimidating to a newcomer. That said, stick with One Piece it really is that awesome, and if you want to lessen the blow I could find which eps are purely filler for you to skip. :p

I miss the days where I would spend whole days just watching an anime. If I still had time like that, I would take a shot at One Piece.

SAO only has 25 episodes for the anime at the moment so finishing the first season will be a bit disappointing, I hate when I catch up to shows and have to wait for new episodes to come out.

I watch One Piece purely when I have allot of time to kill. I know DIAR/Moon Knight has been watching it too, and we've traded comments and reviews. I watched a series recently called Chūnibyō Demo Koi ga Shitai! It was a little quirky at the beginning, but the ending was touching.

Watched a few series' recently.

Rewatched Nichijou - Still my favorite series ever, along with Baccano. Absolutely the greatest slice of life series ever, and absolutely hilarious to boot. Don't let anyone tell you differenty.

Watched Bakemonogatari - AWESOME artwork, but only one really good arc. The rest dragged or went by too fast. Worth watching for the Kanbaru and Snake arcs, as Kanbaru is just a great character and that entire arc is just great. Snake was a great arc but needed another episode to actually pace it. Rest is worth watching (except Cat which was boring and WORDSWORDSWORDSWORDS) but not that great.

Finally watched Darker Than Black Season 1 (Take that, FunKay and JMT! Only took me two years!) and holy fuck it's fantastic. Can't wait to watch season 2 with some friends. Absolutely amazing series, amazing art, amazing music, amazing stories, really tugged at the old heartstrings.

Also rewatched The Girl who Leapt Through Time, which is my second favorite movie ever. Must have seen it about five times by now. Still great.

Planning on rewatching Baccano at some point, along with the new Jojo's series and Durarara eventually. After that, who knows?

But yeah, seriously, get on DTB and Nichijou if you haven't.

In terms of manga I read Choku and It's Not My Fault I'm Not Popular. Both were fucking hilarious. I was drawn to Choku because it seemed incredibly weird, but was soon taken in by the sense of humor and great characters. INMFINP is even more endearing and funny, though, and I'm sure a few people here could relate to it. Definitely give it a read.

Nichijou is on my list. Once I finish with the dubbed episodes of One Piece I'll probably give it a whirl. It's going to take a while to get through the rest of that series. 590 episodes and counting.

An excerpt from the first fight scene of the new DBZ movie Battle of the Gods.

So Battle of Gods appears to follow the normal DBZ formula - the Big Bad (Bills, the God of Destruction) - annihilates everyone including Vegeta, Gotenks, Buu, (Mystic?) Gohan and in all likelihood SSJ3 Goku as well only for Goku to ascend to some hitherto unseen level to dispatch the superior baddie.

Treading over old ground perhaps and I would always like to see some deviation from the "Goku/Gohan save the day motif". But, really, I don't care. Bring it on.

I would love to see a movie in which Vegeta saves the day. The only movie in which he played a significant part was the Fusion one, and even in that it was as Gogeta.

Also, does anyone know when Battle of the Gods is supposed to come out in English?

I always thought that GT should have gone down the route of having other characters defeat the Big Bad to add something different in their storytelling.

They hinted at it with 18 being directly involved in the end of Super 17 (the worst of the GT Big Bads IMO) but in the end it was Goku who took care of every villain - Lord Luud, Sigma Force, the underrated General Rilldo, Baby, Super 17 and virtually all of the Evil Dragons

Vegeta could easily have been the one to finish off Baby using the last of his energy to blast him into the sun and then dying in the process, while Gohan, Goten and Trunks should have had a bigger role in the defeat of the Evil Dragons, even if having Goku finish off Omega Shenron was the right call.

Gohan? He got to do it once and after that sank in a hurry. You'd think the characters with the most development would get the spotlight. But Goku is super popular despite showcasing worse morals than a wifebeater so he's the only star in the movie it seems.

I really got pissed at the formula of Vegeta kicks the henchman's ass, he kicks the big bad's ass for a bit, the big bad powers up, Vegeta isn't strong enough, Goku has to save the day.

If we're being honest Vegeta had the most character development of all the characters in the Dragonball universe and he didn't get to defeat a big bad once.

Based on other information that I've gathered, here's a sneak peak at the new Super Saiyan God.

It's like a cross between SSJ and the Kaioken. One more spoiler...

Bills still [allegedly] kicks the shit out of the Super Saiyan God.

Gohan? He got to do it once and after that sank in a hurry.

Once in the manga, but with filler and movies included, Gohan is more prolific - Cell, Garlic Jnr twice, Broli and Bojack.

And I suppose, if you are going to be technical about the whole thing, Goku is actually not all that prolific in killing the Big Bad in the main DBZ stories. Piccolo killed Radditz; Vegeta killed Nappa; Vegeta survived; Trunks killed Frieza; 17 and 18 survived; 16 was killed by Cell and Gohan killed Cell. Majin Buu is Goku's only actual Big victim in DBZ.

It is only with the movies and DBGT that Goku's villain-slaying goes into unrestrained overdrive.

I hope that that does not mean another Spirit Bomb...

From what I've read in translation of the plot, the movie doesn't end how you'd think for a DBZ movie, but sets itself up nicely for a sequel. Bills does say something interesting though...

There are 12 universes in the DBZ multiverse, and Goku's universe is universe number 7. Each universe has its own God of Destruction. Lordly Lord Lord.

Gotta love the laying the groundwork for potential sequels.

It will be interesting to see what kind of Big Bad Bills turns out to be. From what I have read, he seems to be more like Goku than say Majin Buu - he wants a good fight.

The test of that will come when he does not get the challenge he wants or when he is victorious - does he just destroy that planet/galaxy/universe or does he return to his slumber to await the next challenger?

The plot paints Bills as a poor sport considering what he did to King Kai's planet, but we'll see. I'm looking forward to it, as the movie fits the canon between DBZ and DBO really well.

Like every good foretelling, it seems that the Prophecy of the Super Saiyan God is written to be somewhat self-fulfilling/paradoxical. Bills awakens to face this God only for his awakening to cause the appearance of said opponent.

That very well could be the meaning behind the plot of the movie.

A few things that I have read in various places on the net (not sure how accurate they are):

1. I read somewhere that the other guy(Wiss) supposed to be quite powerful himself. If so, it could be quite interesting.
2. Goku and Vegeta will fuse at some point in the movie. I think that they run out of time/power, not lose.
Quite excited for the movie. Lets see how it turns up.

I recently started on OnepunchMan a manga that originated from a Japanese web comic. Most hilarious and trolling manga I've seen. A few chapters literally had 10+ panels of dragging out one simple action. The fight scenes are very well illustrated. It is similar to watching wrestling as the hero always win with one punch.

Been lurking in a few manga/anime forums and the constant whining about how 'predictable' certain mangas are is pissing me off. Even if the story/fight direction was totally different from the ranter's prediction just weeks earlier.

I see the same 'predictable' excuse to bash wrestlers or promotions in wrestling forums like here all the time too but it doesn't make me shake my head as much if it is about wrestling. I wonder if it is because I only follow one type of wrestling (WWE) while I do follow a few more manga/anime at any one time and seeing the same bashing in every one of them.

Curious to see if anyone here react the same way to bashers on these two subjects the same way.

Just started watching Attack on Titan. There's something about the animation that's just drawn me in I guess. Nothing story wise so far is hooking me though. I'm only episode 2 but I imagine it just gets better.

It does.

I mostly read manga nowadays. Most recent series I read was Monster by Naoki Urasawa. Absolutely phenomenal. If you can, check it out. Check out his other work, Pluto, as well. I don't have a planned next series, just a massive chunk of series' I have downloaded and will be read at random next time I'm bored.

For anime, I'm only following Kill La Kill which remains deliciously and stylishly B-movie-tastic, and I recently watched Mirai Nikki which somehow manages to take an excellent cast of characters and a fascinating plot and mar it with the main character acting like a complete fucking moron halfway through and a very clumsy plot twist. Ah well.

For some reason I could never get into Attack on Titan, I wanted to like it but there was always something in every episode that either made me cringe with anger at the show or skip through half of it.

Has kill la kill finished yet? I might get back into that one just because of how hilariously crazy it was, reminds me of inferno cop a little actually.
I'm only following HunterxHunter and kuroko no basket of the stuff that's currently airing, and I'm also watching Slam Dunk which makes Kuroko look like shit by comparison of the plots (and Kuroko steals all the characters from Slam Dunk as well, it's fun playing a game of who's who with the characters though)

As for manga, I'm only really keeping up with Onepunch Man at the moment - all of you should read it, it's a charming tale about a superhero who defeats all of his enemies with one punch. It's brilliant. Just brilliant.
