2016 Wrestling Awards Nomination Thread

Okay I'll have a go at this.

1. Wrestler of the Year

AJ Styles. Came in at the Rumble and has put on some of the best matches of the year so far. Presently holding the WWE championship, and is the leader of SD, the best out of the two shows. Honorable mention to Charlotte.

2. Promo of the Year

I'm going with anything that Jericho has done this year. He is stellar on the mic and outshines almost everyone with the exception of the Rock and Heyman. People listen to what he says, and I've yet to hear the "What" chant during any of his promo's.

3. Worst Wrestler of the Year

Without a doubt James Ellsworth. Comedy jobber for life that guy.

4. Surprise of the Year

Goldberg's return.

5. Group/Tag Team of the Year

New Day, they broke the record for holding the tag team titles, and have entertained us all the way along.

6. Match of the Year

I would have to say Cena/Cesaro, Cena/Zayn or Nakamura/Zayn at Takeover Dallas.

7. Moment of the Year

Goldberg squashing Lesnar in a minute at SS.

8. Best Angle of the Year

Cena's US title open challenge.

9. Most Improved Wrestler of the Year

Charlotte by a long shot. She has improved in every aspect and is making the others look like they are going backwards. One of the best heels other than the Miz on the roster right now.

10. Rookie of the Year

Enzo and Cass, don't know two guys that are more over than they are.

11. Non-Wrestler of the Year

Maryse. She should be holding the IC title, she's won most of the Miz's matches for him.

12. Worst Angle of the Year

Anything to do with Ziggler, especially that love triangle.

16. Feud of the Year

Charlotte and Sasha followed closely by Owens/Zayn.

17. Best Major Show of the Year

Mania or Money in the Bank

18. Worst Major Show of the Year

Would have to go with Fastlane or Payback. I don't even remember what happened on those two.
You added some which happened in 2015,not 2016. :p

Sorry for re-iterating, but I'm bored and this is always a fun time-waster.

1. Wrestler of the Year: AJ Styles

Huge debut; Lasted 30 mins in the Royal Rumble; Battling for WWEWHC within 3 months; Beat John Cena twice; WWE Champion within 8 months; Face of Smackdown.

Also: Kenny Omega

Made history more than once this year; Competed in NJPW's first ever Ladder match, first gaijin to win G1 Climax tourney, double champ, became leader of Bullet Club; Defeated the likes of Tanahashi, Elgin, and Goto.

2. Promo of the Year: The Miz, "Why don't you go back to the bingo halls!?"

Nothing can touch the realness of this promo; Launched the Miz back into stardom and rejuvenated his career.

3. Worst Wrestler of the Year: Braun Strowman

Still very green; Offense consists of punches, slaps, kicks, and corner splashes.

Also: Eva Marie, Dana Brooke

4. Surprise of the Year: Goldberg squashes Lesnar at Survivor Series

This is up there with Lesnar ending The Streak. I'd wager that not one person saw this coming.

5. Group/Tag Team of the Year: The Revival

Put on some of the best tag team matches I've seen in recent memory with AA and DIY; First and only two-time NXT Tag Champs

Also: Richocet and Matt Sydal

Team that was thrown together and ended up as the most exciting Jr. Heavyweight team in New Japan; Two-time Jr. Heavyweight Tag champs and part of the NEVER Openweight 6 man Tag champs.

6. Match of the Year: Sami Zayn vs Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Takeover Dalls OR AJ Styles vs John Cena at Summerslam OR DIY vs The Revival at Takeover Toronto OR Kenny Omega vs Tetsuya Naito Day 18 G1 Climax

Mostly because these are the only four matches that I remember vividly.

7. Moment of the Year: New Day breaks Tag Title record

This is one of those records I thought would never be broken in the modern era; Even crazier is that New Day totally deserved it.

8. Best Angle of the Year: Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens Best Friends

Also: GM Daniel Bryan vs IC Champion The Miz

9. Most Improved Wrestler of the Year: Baron Corbin

No good matches in 2015; Three in 2016; Literally only person I could think of that's improved a decent amount from last year.

10. Rookie of the Year: No clue. AOP are the only real rookies that I can think of that made a good impact so... AOP I guess.

11. Non-Wrestler of the Year: Daniel Bryan

Plays his role really well as Smackdown GM; Actually feels like a legitimate GM; Still very over without taking away from the performers in the ring.

12. Worst Angle of the Year: The Old Day and everything that came with it

This angle seriously hurt The Club and to be honest, I'm not sure they'll recover from how damn horrible that angle actually was; Legitimately cringe-worthy

13. News Story of the Year: Brock Lesnar Fights at UFC 200

14. Title Reign of the Year: New Day WWE Tag Team Champions

Have to go with this because they're the only team in any major promotion (I think?) to hold titles throughout the entire year.

15. Worst Match of the Year: Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton

At least I remember parts of the Lesnar/Ambrose match; I don't remember literally anything before Lesnar busted Randy up.

16. Feud of the Year: Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn

17. Best Major Show of the Year: Wrestle Kingdom 10

18. Worst Major Show of the Year: Mania 32

Maryse deserves a shout for non wrestler of the year. She has been very important to Miz's title reign and rejuvenation.

Oversight on my part. I must second this.

.....maybe.

Thank you for the consideration. If the category qualifies, I'd also like to nominate Enzo gets knocked out vs Vaudvillains at... Payback? I think Payback. I legit felt queasy as I waited for some kind of announcement or report of Enzo's status.

How about a Bonehead Moment like Michael Cole on-screen reading his lines after Shane jumped from the Cell?

Second nomination; Keep the camera on Roman Reigns' investigative face while AJ Styles debuts in a WWE Royal Rumble Match.

The reason the first Roadblock shouldn't count, and I feel like you didn't actually watch the show, is because it was actually pretty good and had several very good matches: The Revival vs. Enzo & Cass, Charlotte vs. Natalya and Triple H vs. Dean Ambrose.

You're right. I didn't watch. I want to feel guilty, to own up to what I've done but there's just an emptiness. A void. Sometimes I try to remember what used to lay in it's place when I was much, much younger. Where it might have gone. I think that maybe it just gradually ebbed away, a bit at a time, until there was nothing, nothing at all and I never truly appreciated it. Never truly noticed. The reality just chipped away at me and left me bare.

I suppose sometimes that we all... we all want to convince ourselves that we're good people. We need an almighty truth that can justify some of the things we do. Some people choose religion, maybe spirituality, just any kind of peace, any scrap of safety. Because facing the truth - the reality, that we will do whatever it takes to ensure us, to ensure ourselves - that we always come first, would crush us. We wouldn't be able to cope.

I remember when I used to believe. Vaguely. Now I have the truth and the void. That is the price of honesty. I am empty and nothing can fill this emptiness inside of me. I am a person, and people do bad things. Because people are bad, through and through, inherently.

And that is why I lied about watching Roadblock.

Sorry about the strange response guy, I'm just strange.

Can you prove such a blanket statement as that? Without even comprehending why it would be meant as a "Fuck You" from Vince to Demolition in the first place? It would be one thing if you had said "I don't think", but matter of factly stating that "It was not meant as that at all" implies that you have some kind of inside information not available to the rest of the public.

This isn't some crazy theory I pulled out of my ass, it's pretty widespread. Vince has frequently proven himself to be incredibly petty. With Demolition being included in the list of people suing WWE over CTE injuries, it makes perfect sense that Vince wouldn't want them holding the record for longest title reign anymore, and since New Day were the champs, over half the way to the record already, and crazy over at the time, the logical move in Vince's mind was to give them the record instead. The theory becomes even stronger with the inclusion of the fact that literally the first possible televised opportunity they had to take the titles OFF New Day after the record had been broken, it was done.

New Day lost immediately after because they held on for like 2 months too long. It was time. Since they were already so close, they decided to give it to them. It's a record that is hard to get and New Day has been doing great work for a long time now. They deserved it. Records being set by current guys is cool. This isn't like when Nikki Bella beat AJ's record. That was being petty. This was simply an issue of New Day running out of fresh fueds at the very end of the reign.

I didn't use in my opinion because it is already implied this is my opinion. It would be redundant.

HHH has said Vince works so much that he often forgets or doesn't notice if people are mad at him. For example, he wasn't even aware Bruno Sammartino had an issue with him until HHH brought it up.

Also you can't accuse me of pulling insider information out of my ass (which I actually used common sense instead) and then say you know what is going on in Vince's mind. Pot calling the kettle black.

It was televised, took place in a month that didn't have a PPV, was built and promoted like a PPV, had both a WWE title match AND a Brock Lesnar match, and had a comparable live crowd to several other actual PPVs. The Lesnar match alone makes it a "major show", since anything he competes at is automatically deemed as "a big deal".

Incorrect. They had done this type of show before (MSG show). It was to give subscribers something extra due to no PPV that month. It wasn't supposed to be anything. You said you haven't watched WWE, so you understandably wouldn't get this. I do. They never intended this to be anything good. The major draw wasn't even Lesnar. It was to do a HHH vs Ambrose match probably to give HHH some in-ring time and to give an interesting match they wouldn't have time to do later.

It wasn't actually promoted that much. Ambrose/HHH was given some promotion due to Reigns needing a few weeks off for nose surgery and that's it. It also was so they didn't have to do 2 straight months of Mania feuds.

Quick question; I see when you select "See current results" before you vote, you can see who has voted on any given selection. Once you've voted, you can only see the number of votes tallied on any choice. All names dissappear.

For no other reason than curiosity, is there any way that can be changed?
