2014 NHL Playoffs LD

Prust gets 2 game ban for the late hit. I feel that is fair personally. Maybe 3. Shitty about Stephan, a broken jaw is no fun.

Carcillo gets 10 for his indiscretion with the ref there. Not sure about this one. Hitting a ref is by no means a small thing but it wasn't a full wind up punch. Have to keep a good precedent over it though and at the end of the day, I can live with it even if I feel it should only be around 6 or 7.

EDIT: Hmmm should read the article first next time. Physical Assault of a Official is a minimum 10 games suspension. So yeah 10 games works for me.

If the Kings get by Chicago, the final could be epic. Rematch from '93 or facing the Rangers, with both being formidable match ups. I'm not getting ahead of myself though because the Hawks aren't going away without a fight.

Still rooting for the Hawks to pull it off.
Can't sell the Kings short though.

Doesn't matter to me who wins the East but I guess I'd prefer Montreal if I had to pick one or another.

The Rangers scare me, I'm not gonna lie. Either way is gonna be a tough series. I'm relying heavily on the Kings' defense.

What a horrible play by Moore on Weise last night. If Prust got 2 then Moore should get at least 4. Blind side, contact with head only and slightly late.

Moore's check was just undisciplined, stupid hockey and he deserves a good suspension for that.

It looks like we got a series between NY and Montreal. I think the winner of game 6 is going to the finals, obviously for New York but if it goes to 7 games I don't see the Rangers taking Montreal in game 7 at home, not that they can't pull it off it just doesn't seem too likely.

Either way it doesn't matter which East team is in the finals but right now I got a feeling Montreal is gonna win the next 2 games.

I'm willing to get Moore gets nothing. Fact is, the contact with the head came after the fact, and the hit wasn't late by NHL standards. The NHL actually time hits in review to determine such, and it was determined the hit by Moore was 0.5 seconds late. For supplemental discipline, they start at hits 0.6 seconds late or longer. Prusts, by comparison, was determined to be 0.9.

As to why he gets nothing? No injury on the play (Weise returned, and the NHL heavily factor in injury on the play), and he has no history, unlike Prust who had been suspended once before two seasons prior in the playoffs for an elbow to the head.

Contact was to the chest. The head came down as a result of momentum and the point of impact. It being late is what got him his hearing, though I still think he comes out of it with just a warning.

Did you even see the hit? It's clear that the principal point of contact is the left side of Weise's head with Moore's right shoulder.

Is that a serious question?

Watch the replay again and again. Weise is looking right, admiring his pass. Moore comes in from his left side, makes contact on a back-bump-style check to his chest and the front side of his left shoulder as Weise is skating forward causing his head to jolt down and into Moore's shoulder, now directly beneath his chin. That's what causes his helmet to pop as well — the jerking motion from the impact.

My bet is the NHL will say that the penalty on the play, including a game misconduct, was punishment enough and they'll move on. Worst case, he gets one game as a player with no history of supplemental discipline or warnings for borderline hits.

Maybe we aren't see it from the same angle or maybe your homer glasses are on, I don't know which, but the chest was hit second, after the shoulder drove into his head. Guess we will just have to disagree on this.

I don't have rose-colored glasses. That's what I see. I only have the one angle, though. The NHL DPOS likely has thirty of them, so they're better equipped to make that call.

Oh, and remember this hit?

Zero game suspension. No fine. Nothing. And that hit was undeniably a head shot.

It's close, but it was definitely chest first with the head snapping down. Definitely blindsided him though, but that's partially on the guy taking the hit.

That's the way I saw it as well, but in seeing the multiple angles the DOPS just released, I'm OK with it. The overhead especially shows a bit of a different angle.

"Up and into" is certainly the case, and from the angle I had seen, it looked to be chest, then head, but the overhead angle tells another story. The impact is actually chest and head simultaneously.
