This is fantastic news. The Rangers, all season, and for a number now, have lacked top-6 scoring talent big-time, and his on/off-ice issues aside for the moment, Radulov absolutely has that. I get that the sample size is small, but we are talking about a player with 102 points in 154 NHL games. Not point-per-game, but offensively speaking a substantial upgrade over what we've got in house right now outside of players like Gáborík, Richards and Kreider. In the shortened regular season he had with the Predators this year, he had 3-4-7 in 9 games, and followed it up with 1-5-6 in 8 games played in the playoffs. I get that he comes with baggage, much like most "enigmatic" Russians do, but something to remember is that if there's one franchise in the NHL that lacks the stereotypical fear of Russian players, it's the New York Rangers, with the Detroit Red Wings following close suit.
I still feel there's a lot of untapped potential with Radulov that could really be whipped into shape here with our staff and coach, and besides it's not all that often you come across an available 25-year old scoring forward with size (6'1, 200lbs). Especially an available 25-year old scoring forward with size, who could be acquired and retained with reasonable financial figures.

It would also signal a bit of a culture change here, which is a GOOD thing, as the team should not get comfortable being hemmed in as a place where only defensive-minded forwards/players come to play. That type of a build will not take your team very far, as the Rangers are already painfully learning.
I've said it a thousand times the best defense is a GOOD OFFENSE.

Acting with deliberate speed in the wake of the news 41-goal scorer Marian Gaborik will require right shoulder surgery that could sideline the sniper into December of next season, Rangers general manager Glen Sather has been in touch with Predators GM David Poile regarding impending Group II free agent winger Alexander Radulov, The Post has learned.
Radulov, who will turn 26 next month, has a lucrative contract offer on the table from CKSA of the KHL, the league in which he played the last four seasons before returning to the Predators for the stretch run and the playoffs, but a well-placed source has told The Post the winger would prefer to continue his career in the NHL.
The 6-1, 190-pounder scored 18 goals as a rookie in 2005-06 and 26 goals the following season before defecting to the KHL with one year remaining on his Entry Level contract.
The degree to which these discussions between Sather and Poile have advanced is unknown, but The Post has learned this is more than the GM kicking the tires. The Blueshirts, of course, would have to be given a window in which to conduct contract negotiations with Radulov before agreeing to trade for his rights.
It is unlikely Poile will play hardball, given the alternative is losing him for nothing to the KHL.

According to Larry Brooks in the NY Post, the Rangers are attempting to acquire the rights to pending RFA Alexander Radulov of the Nashville Predators.
Brooks writes that Sather and Nashville GM David Poile are beyond the kicking tires stage of talking and the Rangers are urgently trying to acquire his rights so that they have a window to try and sign him before July 1.

ASSETS: Profiles as a classic Russian right wing: A left-handed shooter with excellent shiftiness, stickhandling skills and the ability to finish. Can really dangle and likes the spotlight.
FLAWS: Lacks intensity on a consistent basis and is occasionally prone to hiccups in his own end. Doesn't have enough desire to be the best he can be at the highest level (NHL).
CAREER POTENTIAL: Skilled scoring winger.

That means adding talent, but theres no use in adding talent if Tortorella wont exploit it. For instance, if the answer to the question, Could Alexander Radulov help the Rangers? is Hed never be able to play for Tortorella, then something is askew because thats pretty much what everyone was saying about Ilya Kovalchuk two years ago.
