12/16/13 Raw LD

That was an awesome match.

Orton should have gotten the clean victory at the end, though. Make your champ actually look like a fucking champion. There was no point in giving him the coward treatment there, especially when just last night Bryan basically lost one-on-one to Bray fucking Wyatt despite it being a 1-on-3 match.

WWE's booking is so mind-numbingly stupid sometimes.

If Orton wins clean, where does that leave Bryan?

While he's not the second coming of Hogan that some make him out to be he's still very popular and probably going to get another shot at the title from this. More people are likely to watch than if Orton had beat him cleanly.

Hell, I think we may see Orton/Cena/Bryan triple threat at the Rumble.

Do you really feel that this decision was mind numbingly stupid? Seems extreme to feel that way.

Obviously if someone disagrees with something the other person is wrong and therefore incredibly stupid, tis the way these things work.

Two things:

HHH gives Bryan a match with the champion the night after Orton beat Cena on his own to prove he can beat the beat without help. Why would HHH give the people what they want with Orton getting no benefit out of it?

At TLC, Punk beats Shield 3-1 and Bryan loses to the Wyatts 3-1. The following night, Bryan gets a match against the world champion while Punk gets to face the Shield again, but with partners. Wouldn't tonight have made more sense if they had flipped the results at TLC?

The Shield wanted some measure of revenge, HHH gave them the opportunity. Orton is expected to fight as champ, HHH does want to give away Cena for free, Orton probably doesn't want to face Cena in a straight up match (same may be said for Punk), he settles for Bryan. Everyone is happy.

And kb, if you don't agree with my assessment please ban DietPepsiRocks. If you do agree, just throw him in prison. Thanks.

Same position. That was an INCREDIBLE match and at the end Orton could have gotten the RKO out of nowhere and you could simply chalk it down as Bryan just getting caught despite looking like the better wrestler throughout the majority of what was a very exciting match. It wouldn't have mattered that he lost.

And listen, I am a MONSTER Bryan fan and I like Orton but I don't think he's as good as Bryan, Punk, or Cena, but if he's THE guy right now, then let him be THE guy. It made absolutely no sense for him to weasel his way out of the match tonight.

Not to mention it was just a crappy way to end such a good match.

Great point, I agree 100%.

WWE's logic is "Well, we're breaking up The Shield soon so let's make them look weak in the process." So dumb.

Because Orton's "I answer to nobody" shtick was rubbing the Authority the wrong way.

I had a great time watching Raw tonight. A good balance of awesome wrestling and classic WWE silliness with the Santa stuff and the obvious trolling during the opening tag. I had an out-of-body experience during that main. Great stuff. When WWE's good, there's nothing like it.

Now I want a proper HBK-Punk smarm-fest.

So the WWE Champion is constantly watching his tongue and jumping through hoops for the Authority, meaning HHH gets to suck up to the crowd and have Orton as his lap dog. Got it.

If you don't see the appeal of Orton as a stooge champion whose impulse control issues make it difficult for him to toe the company line, then I question your taste.

Every SmackDown from now until WrestleMania should be headlined by carefully-worded Randy Orton apologies.

In the short term wrestlers have ceilings and floors. Randy Orton's short term ceiling and floor is not that big. He is very established, you can't damage or help his rep that significantly. He's also about as clear of a heel in wrestling today, not to mention a hot head who is prone to outbursts. Him low blowing DB made total sense.

DB on the other hand is somewhat the opposite, his size, look, and lack of tenure near the top make him very vulnerable. He's also very popular, while I don't think that means he should be champion, it definitely means that you have to protect him. A clean loss to Orton could damage DB enough to the point where you have to build him up again. It may also hurt t-shirt sales and make some of the most die hard DB fans never watch WWE again. Why risk that?

Have you watched heel Randy Orton for the past 12ish years? It makes total sense. Plus Randy Orton is not the guy, John Cena is still the guy. DB and Punk are the other guys. Few heels have ever drawn, after 12ish years, Randy Orton isn't going to start drawing now. He will get clean wins over next few weeks over guys like Henry, Christian, and Rhodes which is good enough. He doesn't need to deflate DB's air at this point.

I thought it was cool looking. Best low blow since Chyna's days.
